so what we'll do is we'll discuss you know about what are the questions they normally ask during netapp interviews or any storage interviews okay and for you abneet we'll start with the basic whenever you are available start with the basic because once the basic is clear then you can uh you'll be able to do well in that app so for other storages even if you don't know the basic you can easily do but for netapp without basic it will be difficult to understand okay so let me open a notepad okay so today's session might not be best for everyone because this is uh what number is it okay this one okay so first thing they will ask is in the tab they'll ask is what what are the models models you have worked on you have worked on in your project okay so these are the questions you will ask so you can tell that aff okay if you can search in google what uh if a model is there latest model okay and fast uh like 8520 2520 okay these are two models so these are the models okay so afm means all flash array means each and every disk is flash disk okay and fast means you'll have shutter disk sas disk, SSD disk, so it will have lesser cost disk and also higher cost disk, so you will have like mixed disk okay. So, um. they will ask you and you can do applications like you can do all kind of applications between EFF and fast it's not a problem and both supports and and as okay both supports block level application and file level application as a block level provisioning file will provisioning okay both you can support okay then they will ask you what is the code what is the version of ONTAP is there in a tab array that you are using so you can say 9.13.1p2 okay so this is n-1 n minus one n minus one means n is the latest one but you want you do not want to go to the latest you want to go to one uh version less and you want to go to a stable version okay so this is the one so and they'll ask you why do you need to why do we need to upgrade okay so you can tell them that we upgrade because to fix some bugs bugs okay to fix bugs to fix bugs what happened was in uh 9.8 versions right in 9.8 you can say even uh 9.10 or 9.11 versions okay in 9.11 versions on the versions okay so you had a lot of issues like cifs disconnection issues okay this connection which is called as NTLM issues NTLM bugs and also SNMP bug so what it means it means that if your code is running on 9.11 then you lose the cfa shares you lose the connection to the netapp array okay so in the middle of the night or in early morning i had p1 p2s okay i i knew uh i p1 p2s okay so i basically knew that I basically knew that this is because of this so what happened to me was I updated most of the arrays but few of the arrays were upgraded by the previous team and they didn't choose the correct code okay so i just what i did i had the code immediately i upgraded with the emergency change during the p1 issue okay and the it was fixed like within uh 15 minutes or 45 minutes okay so it was good okay so let me just go away from in my laptop what you have entered n n minus one what is this one n minus one means uh the latest code is n okay n-1 means one one old code like before that code so latest code is like 9.14 I'm going to 9.13 because in latest code sometimes it's having bugs okay and then testing is not done so I should always go with some stable version in mention version in switches sometimes we go with n minus 2 versions also in switches I went with n minus 2 versions because even n minus 1 version is not tested well so that's why the broadcom team they told us that this is the stable version okay so because of the CFS disconnection I upgraded from 9.11 to 9.131 P2 okay so it's resolved that CFS disconnection issue and SNMP bug issue means the SNMP trap that we configured in NetApp array due to which we can get alerts automated alerts to our solar wind or any kind of monitoring devices that we configure was not happening because of the bug so so it's of the issue when we upgraded the array okay so these are the things that we need to update so this is way separate okay this is on-tab upgrade okay so there are another update is also there so they will ask you how many updates are there so you can say on-tab upgrade okay and disk firmware update two updates are there okay this common update normally done by vendors okay and if you have some end-of-life and a right end-of-life array you cannot do this bro question yeah this firmware or admin also need to do right so yeah but in our situation we have not done this in a moment because our and is our end of life our physical and is our end of life and the areas which are not end of life are basically software defense storage for that we don't do not need to do this cover update because it is coming from Hitachi okay and they'll ask you what type of replication you are using in a project okay and how to configure them set it up so they will ask you this so you can tell uh you can tell volume level snap meter okay volume level snap meter okay sync async sync and async okay and what else you can tell them svm vr okay so in in your tab in data whenever you are doing replications is basically uh you are using the snap in technology right so you can use it as volume level or you can do v server level v server means one v server is having like 100 volumes so whenever you are doing svmdr it will replicate all the 100 volumes okay we do not need to replicate individually and one more thing is that SVMDR if you are using NAS right so it will replicate everything like export policy export policy rules everything so you do not need to manually configure it the only thing that you need to manually configure is your encryption if you have there are two type of encryption in a tab one is onboard key and is external key so if you have some encryption then you need to configure those okay but you are using SAN right in SAN the identity is not preserved you have to create the leaf manual I mean you have to create the stop manually like I group and all okay you have to create it manually you cannot do uh like you cannot it will not happen automatically in for san okay and what what else what more application you have you have business continuity for all scenarios so this is a sync replication but this is only for san san arrays not for nas okay so this one you have okay what else you have metro cluster metro cluster over ip so you will have this replication okay so this is a synchronous replication where both your production and dr will be active active okay so this is a synchronous replication okay and then what will you have cross grid replication okay so cross the replication of what you do you use your object storage is the storage that is storage grid storage grid is object storage appliance the object storage for NetApp so if you want to do replication between one storage gate to another storage gate you use cross grid applications okay so these are all the things I will teach in the in the in my training okay so if they ask you like what project what you have suppose you have SVMDR you don't tell everything even if you know because then what will happen they will ask you lot of questions so you can tell like you have SVMDR then you give him the steps what you do like initially you create your you know inter cluster live then you do cluster pairing then you do SVM pairing okay SVM pairing means V sub a pairing okay then what you do is that you create some data volume like source volumes okay and then once you do uh like svmd replication once you initiate then all the volumes will be replicated and the target volume will be created automatically okay so these things you can do and the destination vserver that will be created automatically you can choose the name as underscore DR underscore DST okay so you can choose that metronaster is very different you have you need to use poramen and all uh quorum will be installed in it's like a software it will be installed in some other you know some linux server in case of hitachi we need to we create quorum in uh in some other array in some some other different site okay so that it is not dependent on production and dsi okay and crosskey replication you are just creating you know uh namespaces and everything everything and you are just replicating those things you are just creating bucket and you are replicating from bucket one bucket to another bucket that is cross gate so these are all the things I will show you in my sessions ok so they will ask you ok and they will ask you how do you update on tap okay so you need to there are multiple ways of doing things you can either use cli or gy if you are using gy the first thing you need to do is you need to download that n-1 stable version from your uh initially what you do is that you go to your active iq okay or you go to your upgrade advisor okay and then you need to select your serial number and then you can select update plan you need to create the upgrade plan in the upgrade plan it will show you what is the code that you need to go to and what are the bugs it fixes it will show the process also what are the pre-checks you need to do what are the post checks you need to do okay so so those things like pre-checks means any cifs op log is there or not your if you are having san then compatibility issues any compatibility issues is there or not so they need to check okay and There are a lot of other things also there like any leaf logic interface.
Okay, it is in home node, home port or not. If it is not there then during the upgrade during the preplan, okay, it will throw you some warnings. You can ignore the warnings, but if you see some error, you need to fix the error.
Otherwise you cannot proceed with the upgrade activity. Okay, then once you do upgrade during the upgrade activity, you might get some veto error. So you need to ask you what different kind of errors you get during the upgrade activity or while doing the code upload also you'll get some error.
If not, found error or space error so how do you troubleshoot this everything is in my videos and everything is in the training okay so these are the things they will ask you basically okay so these are the things they will ask you and how do you provision you know learn to windows slash linux host okay so you need to tell them that you need to create your data volume on the v server you need to create learn on the volume you need to create interface group i group okay so not interface go i group okay you need to create i group and interface group is different that is created not i group you need to create okay and you need to create i group you need to first check the icon number from the get the icon number from the windows host by going to the iSkills initiator and then you need to create the iGroup from here and you need to map the learn to the iGroup okay and then you need to go to the your you know your windows host you need to go to the device manager from there you need to add the sessions okay there you will see like uh suppose you are doing lan uh learn allocation right so you will have uh you will have two sandleaf per node okay because uh in nas your leaf will migrate so you will have dns based ip dns based load balancing okay ip based load balancing but for san you will not have that you need to have multipath multipathing installed multipathing software installed in your host okay and that they will do the load balancing and you know high ability all these things okay so you are not migrating sandleaf you can migrate the nas leap okay and they will ask you uh how to create shares create cifs shares nfs exports okay so you need to give the process uh you know you create uh uov server you need to allow the protocols like CFS NFS protocol you need to create the volume data volumes okay and then you need to create your CFS server okay and then you need to be at the CFS share on top of the data volumes okay and while create the volumes you create you mention the junction path okay so these things you need to tell and then you give the path and you need to make the DNS entry also for the leaf okay for the NAS leaf for the safe share and you need to give them to the winter so they they do the DNS mapping okay DNS host mapping so that whatever service share the end user using they are not using the IP but the host name So, you are using hostname and different IPs. So, suppose two IPs. So, it is doing IPs load balancing for say FSHare.
And for NFS export, what you do? You create, first you do NFS create. You need to create the service. You are creating volume and then on top of volume, you will be having your export policy.
You need to create your export policy and then export policy rules you need to create. And you need to mention your. So, in clients right like Linux host, Windows host, the int dimension like whether it is like all access like read write access, super user access, int dimension those things ok int dimension and then export policy rules once you create you need to give the export policy that mount path to your Linux and what they will do they will put those in slash etc slash f star ok for hardbound. in case due to uh during the time of patching server sometimes server reboots right so the path will be gone if it is soft mount so they do hard mount so those things will ask and if you get any mount issues how do you resolve the mount issues okay so mount issues how to resolve it so you need to tell them that what nfs version the application is supporting you have the same version configured in your netapp in or not and the same thing is read write rw and ro size that is mentioned in the fs drive entry so you need to correct that as per the application okay and one more thing is that you have given the proper permission in the export policy rules and given the proper ip or not because sometimes what happens suppose you're using the export policy in in your devops field okay in your pod okay sometimes the pod uses dynamic ips so dynamic ip will the ip will always change okay so you need to give a range in that case in export policy you need to use a subnet instead of IP you can use a subnet okay instead of IP particular IP so in that case even though whenever the party goes right it will take some other IP right dynamic IP so it still they will have access okay so that is something there I have faces issues in DevOps like the devops will come to me that they're not able to access then I know what is the issue yeah one more moment is there okay so uh when you create the export policy rule right there is option like super user so there was only 9.10 super user should have been uh like instead of any it is it was some other field i forgot the field okay so it has to be some other field i think super sis i think the field is sis okay the sis field so that's the problem now it is not a problem you can give either sis or any okay while creating the export policy rules so people who does not know data who are like due to here uh i will teach you guys basic things so you'll understand these things so normally they will ask you these things okay mount issues what is this and again suppose uh CFS shares are not accessible okay inaccessible okay so that issue okay so what you do first you check the DNS sometimes what happened the DNS entries removed improperly so you try with IP the ip you can access the cfa shares or not okay if you are able to access with ip then you need to go to the intel team and ask them to check the dns entries and reconfigure them the dns entries i think people like I think he will be knowing because he is having a lot of experience even I do not have much idea about how they configure the Active Directory in Mintel and DNS I did know few things when I was working in Cognizant because I did some PowerMax something some migration to scale IO PowerMax to scale IO okay so at that time DNS entry was anyway DNS entry was made so there are little different different triple entries double entries and allys entries something is there in DNS entries okay so those things we don't need to know okay and sometimes the cfa share server is accessible because they have changed the administrative privilege as an administrative access so you need to reconfigure the cfa server okay so that is something there or re not reconfigure uh re how do I say recredentialize means you need to put the credential again okay and connect the cfs server okay that you created so that thing you need to do and QSFP replacement QSFP replacement ok so in QSFP replacement what you need to do is QSFP is quad SFP means one SFP is having four ports ok four SFPs like four physical ports okay so to replace the qscv the first thing you need to do is that you need to make the auto revert as false in the leaf that is in in the ports physical ports leave means logical interfaces using leaf only you will be accessing the cfa shares nfsh nfs exports and also you'll be using san leaf also okay this is the main thing in netapp okay so what i do i get auto revert as false and then migrate the leaf to some other port which is not part of that qsrp okay in the same cluster i do that okay and then the native will replace the qsfp after the qsfp replaced then i will uh revert the leaf to my uh to the to the to the quality ports which have been replaced okay quality qsf which have been replaced and after that i i change the auto reward as true okay auto reward means whenever i i migrate the things if the port is online port is good it will again revert it back automatically if i keep it auto reverted as true and migrate it like it automatically reverted i don't want that okay and qsf and normal sf replacement is very easy you don't need to do anything you need to migrate or anything okay so you just i mean you need to migrate but just one port you need to migrate one lip you need to migrate not four lips okay so this this thing i've been uh i was taught by one guy like great daily okay he is a guy who is having like 70 he's like 70 years of age almost okay so he is like very good in a tab still working in a tab so another thing is that suppose suppose you are getting some CRC errors ok CRC errors ok so How do you know whether it is from storage end or switch end?
So what you do is that you need to run this command, noderun-node-command. okay I have CFG I have CFG hyphen Z or hyphen a okay then you will get all the ports okay wherever the CSA is there right suppose CSA is a transmitter end transmitter means what transmitter and receiver transmitter and receiver one second transmitter and this is yeah so if it is at the receiver end okay so that means the switch is the problem okay switch just you need to change the sap of the switch port okay which is connected to the netapp port and mostly it will be network switches okay because it will be mostly you will use netapp for nas and how do you know what switches you have that port connected to you use this command but you have to go to from set diag need to go to diagnostic mode okay and then set hyphen d and then you need to run this command network device discovery show so it will show you all the netapp physical ports where it is connected to to your you know uh to your net uh like brokered switches if you if you're having brokered switches and to show the port also so you can easily guide the data center team to that normally data center team will be knowledgeable to replace the SFP at switch end you don't need to do that but they will not be able to do at NetApp end okay so they can easily do that but if you see the transmitter is having problem transmitter CRC error that means you have to change the SFP of your NetApp app port okay data physical port so this is something there what else suppose your CFA shares are getting slow okay so you need to check you need to check the v-scan policy v-scan policy in your net app okay so this is like antivirus normally what I mean is that you you will have endpoint antivirus like McAfee or something your windows so you don't need another antivirus in your tab okay so you can disable the vscan if it is becoming very slow okay so you can do that and what else let me think okay yeah migration okay so they'll ask you what kind of migration you have done so you can say like from seven mode to c mode migration you have done they'll ask you what will they can you can say seven mtt tool sorry seven mtt two 7 more transition tool okay so we can it's it uses the sample technology only so I have given one lecture it's in my videos private videos okay I'll give you guys that lecture also I think you are there right no no no no you said the same that day yeah So this is also very good. They will ask you and during this migration you will have one challenge to set up. During pre-checks, what is the challenge? Routing.
This routing needs to be done and that is network team's responsibility. so normally they will struggle with this okay and if you cannot do this you will not be able to do anything so you need to have proper routing configured between your seven mode intercluster leave with your c mode intercaster leave okay because the intercaster leave is the one through which the data traffic will go the replication traffic will go okay and one more thing so they will ask you that cifs data right nfs data which network it goes through okay so you need to tell data network okay okay data network not the cluster network or management network okay it's a data network okay so they will ask you these questions and yeah they'll ask you what is audit volume like mdv volume and audits odds this volume okay they'll ask you what are these volumes okay so md volume is snap in a mapping volume so the mapping information will be there in mdv and audx volume is audit volumes okay suppose you have you want uh you have a lot of juniors or your client wants everybody uh kind wants to know what every what comes everybody is running or somebody is doing mistake they want to catch them so in that that case they will have the audit enabled and this audit volume and where these volumes will be located these volumes will be in root aggregates okay and they will ask you ADP okay advanced die partitioning what is advanced die partitioning I think Praveen you can tell right please tell what is advanced die partitioning yes while creating the aggregate some disk is partitioning because some SSD they prefer for that so they can partition for the configuration one port and data for one part for the ADP advanced data partition while disinstalling we will do for this like so using space we don't want that for higher end arrays we're using data for ssd array so they will have advanced type partitioning which is which where we'll have like two data partitions and one root partition and we'll be using the root partition for root and data partition we can use for data aggregates so we will not be we will not be losing the space yeah before that we wasting only two to eight tb space for the only configuration purpose and we can do this before the configuration like we can initially install configure this in case of fast arrays we need to do this during the time of installation need to enable this we cannot do after after the installation if you want to do after installation we need to format the array we lose the data but in case of in case of AFF all flash array we can do after the installation also configure ADP all flash array so this is something there See, in storage you need to continuously talk for 30 minutes. If you are able to talk continuously for 30 minutes on your knowledge, you are hired.
storage or cloud automation or whatever okay so that is the main thing so they need to know see it might be happen that whatever in my project is not there in your project okay so i might be using metro cluster you might not be having metro cluster but they want what they want is they want is they want to know that you have really worked on storage you have really have you know proper experience so they will be looking for the troubleshooting questions which i discuss in my training troubleshooting questions because they will ask you what troubleshooting you did you see crc error ksv replacement round issues this is this you can say okay and let me let me give you more questions i i i know i know a lot of things okay but sometimes i need to recollect them yeah performance issues okay so performance issues so sometimes what happens is that your suppose of the cfh shares is getting slow so you need to check vscan policy and you need to there are you need to also check whether there's some network level issues or not how you check that to check this you need to run this command net ping hyphen leap okay you need to give the your nas leap okay then hyphen destination you need to give the destination ip where i mean where your cfa shares is mapped okay you need to give that and you see whether it's pingable or not and then you can do trace route okay trace route hyphen leap hyphen node also you can do but you do not you do not want to do node because you want to target particular NAS leap okay then hyphen destination so it will show you where the packet is dropping okay and where if this packet is dropping or taking more time then you can go to your network team for some you know uh you need to go to your network team to troubleshoot issues and one more thing is that your ifgrp interface group okay so what is happening is that so you need to do trunking so that you get better speed okay so when you do trunking the trunking here is interface group the trunking we broke do broken right this is called as interface group so we'll select multiple physical port like a0 A0, B, E and using this we will create like E0, A E0 is virtual, these are physical and we can call it as LACP multimode multi mode or single mode okay static okay so these are the things you can do multi mode is better okay so multi mode means what multi mode means both your both these ports will remain as active active single mode is one is active another one is passive which is not good okay and static is something else and it can be like ip based or it can be mac based okay different kind of lsb you can create okay so depending on that you get better performance and also you have vlan created on them okay so these are the things you need to check and you can get better better inside of your performance from the inside tool inside tool is there okay in a tab you can use this tool okay and for uh you can also check the you need to also check the cpu utilization okay you need to check your aggregate is full or not okay i need to check volume is full or not if volume is full then what will happen almost full then only read operation will happen not write operations you can check by going to the snapshot data you will see the snapshot is not getting modified the size okay so that's what you can check okay what else a lot of things are there something that is there and in case aggregate is getting full then you can you can do you can move the volume you can do volume to different aggregates different data aggregates okay different data aggregates okay you can do volume to different data aggregates so that is also you can do okay so so that today you know i had some problem uh there was one of the volume which was getting full okay it was from on tap select which is a software defined array and software defined array uh we need to purchase licenses for capacity tier like suppose i have 2tb license so that means uh the on tap select is just a software we are actually assigning the hitachi storage to our esx server and from the rotating data store from there we are allocating from data store to the on-tab nodes which are basically like on-tab vm so you're basically the on-tab nodes okay but if we need to still get license from native like 2tb then we can only 2tb can be visible in netapp but here it was almost full so i went to the client and asked them they said okay uh you know you need to purchase uh five they will they're raising some change they're purchasing five tibet i said i said okay then we'll just uh keep it you know keep it under waiting step okay and i asked my juniors to update the tickets so what happened was uh there are many ways of doing the things so in case of volume like root volume right we need to we need to do that immediately because if root volume is full then will not be the array will be inaccessible okay so but this is data volume so only it will impact the application or the data okay so the the end user so it's not a problem it's it's the the risk is with them not with us and so once they have the license then i will allocate some volume some learn from my hitachi to the esx server and from there they will create the data store and then allocate the hard disk uh the disk to the vm disk to the on-tab nodes on-tab vms and then i will come to the netapp array and i will expand the aggregate using the vm disk or i will create another data aggregate and move the data volume which is almost full to the data aggregate and expand the volume okay so that i will do There are many ways of doing things. So they'll ask you the some scenario they'll ask you this has happened in my project so what you will do. So when I was in 10 plus 2 right I could have done I was I was able to do one math questions three or four in three or four different ways okay. So here also one problem you can solve in one or two ways but in Hitachi only one way but in NetApp you have multiple way of doing things. So this is something they'll ask you.
that suppose you have some volume in one v server okay you want to move to some another v server then how do you do that so v server rehosting rehosting okay so so this is they will ask you ask you how to do volume move okay so they will ask you so volume is the command okay and why do we need to do volume of volume is basically we do because some aggregate might be full we want to uh move the volume to some other aggregate where the space is there so that this this aggregate is having less more available space okay and then they will ask you how to do aggregate rebalancing okay or they'll ask you why flex group is required okay so whenever the volume is like 100 tb that we cannot create a flex volume which is basically a volume more than 100 tb so if you want that we need to get flexible and flexible is created from different aggregates okay and it has a rebalancing algorithm where suppose you are putting some data on aggregate so that it will rebalance on all the aggregates from where the flex group is created ok and you can also convert your flex volume to flex group ok. downtime is required but you can do that so they'll ask you how to do that okay this is what i teach okay this is uh there's a lot of uh this is a big you know a lot of steps are required so let me show you okay here okay one second wait wait wait okay so uh one second how do i minimize this i don't know how to minimize this anyway so anyway so let me just search flex I have named it as flex2 yeah so this is the session okay where I will show you everything okay so these are the sessions that I do conversion of following the flakes group and I show the lever rebalancing algorithm and everything that how we I put the data somewhere in some some volume and I show them that how the data is being you know balanced between all the aggregates okay so all these things I show them okay so so these are the things I show here what else yeah so they'll ask you how do you do fellow up and fall back okay okay sometimes you need to do DR testing okay so how do you do that you'll ask you this so I also teach that thing okay so they'll ask you this iSKZ they will ask you about iSKZ and EFC allocation okay so they'll ask you this so you can tell them they'll ask you about zoning and all so you can easily do that okay they'll ask you NVMe okay how do you create NVMe so this is basically something that you create this is basically something that you create you know where your hardware is not good but you need better performance so in that for that case you create NVMe you create suppose you have some some data engineering workload okay like snow or something okay so for that particular workload is there for this NVMe you can create the workload so that's also I teach i teach almost everything here but the problem is that training takes a lot of time bro unfortunately one second i'll show you this in vme okay so here also here only i've reached somewhere okay i'll show you one second here only i've i've taught somewhere okay okay don't worry i have taught somewhere here okay yeah and they will also ask you uh these questions like uh how do you replicate between blue xp okay blue xp and your on-prem sorry not blue xp sorry how do you play on premise on premise netapp two different cloud okay so they will ask you how do you replicate so you can tell them okay so that's also i teach what is veto error okay how to resolve that better you get uh during the time of your upgrade it means that the aggregate or the disk that is having right you are not able to uh it will not you are not able to send it back to the node that is owning it okay so to force do it or you have to first suspend the update and then cancel the upgrade okay so these things in it to do so these things I teach in one of the sessions I have already taught per mean I think and it's recorded okay and applications in application suppose you know uh they'll ask you they need to do dr testing so you need to ask they'll ask you how do you do testing so you need to show them that how do you uh how do you reverse replication and all those things you need to tell them okay and they'll ask you some theoretical questions like how many uh snap controller architect bro architectures yeah they'll ask you the architecture how the data flows they'll ask you they'll ask you how to create flash pools and why do you require flash pools so they'll ask you uh all these things what is nvme uh so not even sorry what is nvram what is nvram mirroring why do you require what is vault okay they'll ask you all these things okay and what different kind of rate groups are there rate db rate for rate easy what is default rate group when during the time installation what rate group normally take for root aggregates okay so they'll ask you okay and they'll ask you how many clusters you can create in san aries or nasa it is for san it is 12 and for nasa it is 24 24 32 i forgot the number i think 32 okay so how many uh you can create they'll ask you they'll ask you export policy rules is it only for cifs and if it is both for both export policy rule means you are limiting the cfa share or the nfs export to a particular host okay so they'll ask you this and normally they ask you in tell him issues so that they will ask you different kind of box so that they know that whether you have really walked on or you have just studied from Udemy okay they'll ask you this automation if they ask you you can tell that and civil models are there we have automated using and civil modules Python or your own database tip is there we've used the Python back in Python packages upon the rest API you can tell them how do you expand the aggregate okay how do you make the disk own to some different node okay this coning okay how to create volumes and all how do you create aggregates how do you can mirror aggregates okay they'll ask you okay what is LS load sharing mirroring okay they'll ask you less mirroring this is one kind of replication also okay so they'll ask you what is in this mirroring but that is only for root volumes so they'll ask you this they will ask you how do you check whether volume is uh thick or thin thick or thin okay so you have to check like uh just now i did there is a field attributes okay involving that is your world show i can be served by volume then i can fuse then uh reserve reserve something resolve okay reserve something okay that activity check okay and that it will be like two files you will get or it will get like uh with reserve is as per the volume or not if it is reserved like volume that means that thick is there thick means even though the application is in 5 gb you are giving 100 gb whatever the size is that you are assigning okay so mainly we use thick volumes for backup purposes okay and give me backup how do you create in the backup okay that's also a show okay so two type of Indian payback of is there one is visa waste and there is no to waste okay paste is better I think because I had a lot of challenges in he's ever based in the backup okay but we will go through that it is land free backup okay means send backup how do we expand a volume okay volume resize how do you create auto size enable auto size volume auto size you need to create like maximum you to show that more you need to give like grow or shrink and you need to say volume grow maximum grow maximum size shrink size like 50% 85% like above 85% it will automatically increase the volume size so that it becomes less than 80% use percentage okay so those things how do you install or come it's just something you like over your file you get it from the on tap sorry netapp support site and just give it to your winter team and they just create the VM on from that okay and they give the IP and you you just do next next next and you create the outcome okay and after the outcome you just add the different database and what are the issues you get while adding the different database in Ockham. So the issues you will get is SSL issues. So for that you need to check whether the SSL certificate is expired or not in your network.
array if it is expired then you need to renew that okay you need to create the array you need to delete the array and you need to enable that array for that particular node okay no sorry particular v server okay and all and another one is that https editor will also get so you need to open the 440 report from your netapp to you sorry from your account to your netapp array two and four bi-directional okay both tcp and udb protocol what else so after you do that you'll be able to do device discovery and all the space all everything will be you'll be able to see your outcome okay and you can create different alerts in your outcome so that in space utilizations disk failures all these things i have created and I have given some different different rule name and I have integrated that with SolarWinds okay so you need to give SolarWinds IP, SolarWinds port and it is a SNMP version SNMP VTO something you need to provide so those things you need to tell them so what I am telling you just tell them them okay I also show you this how did I can feel I cannot show how to get because it's already configured I'm configure this but I will only configure when the some other code is published because you know in order to can 9.5 was the code and we went to the 9.14 for the outcome and I do not I did not wanted to update because in upgrade we need to do step up your step program is one go to another code and then I go to another code I created the name I downloaded the 9.14 package on you installed it and then added all the arrays i did not upgrade it okay because i did not wanted to do upgrade two times i need to raise a lot of changes and everything i did not want it to go to many approvals okay so what else i know it is i not fool okay so i know feel you need to do i know numbers you can increase max up in case okay so that thing you need to check you can do okay this is also they will ask you i not okay what else they'll ask you reprobation migration virtualization there are different kind of replication in in your new XP okay you can create like you can use your Azure native files Amazon FSx those things you can you can tell them okay that I mean I started that one okay so so that one I to finish show that that sessions or blue xp so those things you tell them you don't need to tell them many things okay because they will they do not have more time they will only spend with you like 30 minutes or what okay 15 to 30 minutes time so just want to know if you're fluent or not in your storage okay so you just don't need to know you don't need to know everything okay but you need to know many things what else yeah how to install the netapp array so i have already shown you in one of two sessions okay how do you create a cluster build in your on taps like software define array so that also you need to tell okay and what are the prerequisite you need to how many ips you need to get so you need to get for one for cluster man ip two for node man ip right so three ips normally need to take if it is two node cluster if it is one node cluster then two ip okay and then after it is cluster installed then you can get data lead and everything you can procure the ips and you need to make sure if it is on tap selected you need to make sure the vlan so that the proper vlan uh it this guy's proper network adapters this uh vintel team is using to allocate to the your native nodes which is basically vm okay so and one more thing is that uh your mtu size should should be I forgot the empty size ok so it should be some like something like ok so because otherwise you know it will throw some error while creating the cluster you can skip that also in my situation I skipped that because we did not have that empty size and it cost money ok empty size means the frame that will be transferred in the switches right the frame size how big the frame is there ok so they will ask you this and for if it is more like sand type then ask you like what is buffer size what is b2b periods switch upgrade so they'll ask you these things okay so they'll ask you these things which I showed in one of the sessions I will share this the video with Praveen okay and I've already shared with Rajdeep because he's taking the Hitachi training okay and what else there are lot of many questions are also there okay and normally they'll ask you this you have to know allocations replication migration troubleshooting performance analysis so these are the things you need to know and troubleshootings okay that's it these are the things you normally do okay so and they will ask you suppose you are trying to do cluster pairing but it's not happening then what could be the issue the issue could be that you have not done proper routing between the intercaster lips okay so they'll ask you these things they will ask you and they will ask you they'll ask you how do you allow protocols in v server you need to tell them okay so these are the things they'll ask you okay there are a lot of other things also there do you remember any other questions i think rajdeep also worked in netapp right rajdeep no no i haven't worked you worked on hitachi right yeah Presently I am not getting but so many questions are there for that. What is the disk type you are using? SSD or FAS? Sorry, F SAS something they will ask.
And RPM they will ask, disk RPM. You can tell them that you are using like SAS 15K or SATA 7.2K. You can tell them.
okay you can tell them that I do not have any facet is I have all flash at it so I do not I'm not using any mechanical disk I'm not using a flash disk you can tell them so that's not a problem and if they asking you know this more you can tell them I just do disk show hyphen disk number then i can get the disk types and everything disk informations you can tell them and one more thing you can tell them if i'm not able to understand some command i just use man man then command name and it will give a sample command okay So I do that. These things I learned because I am a Linux admin right, so whenever I don't know something I use the man page. For when I worked in EMC also I used that simcell hyphen v, sim access hyphen v. Instead of going to Google I just get from the native itself.
It is good. Okay and they will ask you like suppose you have fast arrays and all flash arrays right. So suppose you do not have money you want.
lesser cost storage in your DR, okay, disaster recovery center where you want your backup and remote like remote replicas and everything so in case of disaster you can just revert it back so you can tell them that you can use you can replicate with an all flash and it will fast also okay so you can do that for Hitachi also that is possible but you just check the compatibility matrix in NetApp support side okay and they'll ask you about update advisor why it is required pre checks post checks in upgrades switch upgrade okay so they'll ask you these things so a lot of things are there but mostly uh if you just go through my sessions right 44 sessions so you'll be able to do because there are a lot of things we'll discuss right because suppose you tell them that I have completed implement a metrograph says it ask how do you do that so when we explain you will take out the 15 minutes of time you understand right so they cannot ask you questions they mostly take 30 minutes of our time okay So that's the thing. So whenever you are explaining, you explain in depth, you are just trying to kill their time. So then they ask you the questions that you know, that you're confident in.
Okay. Yeah, switchable clusters and switchless clusters. Yeah, when we using that. I have one question what is interviewer ask every time the basic questions basic question is this one what are the data pairs you have SAN how to create how to get shares how to get loan how to allocate loans how to scan the loans suppose loan is not available then what could be the issues ok If your LAN is not available then what would be the issues? Then you need to check the zoning In zoning the command is fcping command fcping command fcping command you understand right?
fcping command you need to check fcping command you need to check fcping command you need to check So fc ping then source wlpn source wlp means wlpn number of your front-end port or netapp port netapp front-end port fc port okay and wlp number of your hba then you will check you will get the result as zone if it is not zone showing then zoning is having some problem and other problem could be your initiate is not logged in in Hitachi you check that initiate is not logged in okay so that is mainly because of zoning or some physical cabling problem or faulty SFP or cable problem as I said so those things need to check okay and let me do one thing one second here Search music. inside side is a good one they'll ask you what is inside tool I've actually given that okay I don't know why it's not coming but I I have taught people maybe some other name I've taught maybe some other name of it not option wizard some other name I've taught okay so they'll ask you okay how do you insight to those things they'll ask you they'll also ask you how do you get auto support okay auto support is very important and how do you test auto support so they'll ask you so every time you do update you first send the auto support to netapp okay then you do upgrade okay and there are lot of different questions i will try to remember something and what you need to do normally is i'll tell you how do you prepare for your uh for your so here you just use netapp okay you'll get some rough idea but for hitachi right every jd is same row every jd is same in hitachi let's go with this or let me go with cognizant sorry uh what is this but sans this i don't know why they're using sam but anyway 840 applicants what is this okay anyway so here what they're asking brocade sanswitch administration right so they'll ask you zoning uh all these things right ported troubleshooting okay and they are scripting knowledge python or storage firmware okay they will ask you in this fast series E series okay E series also I teach you guys in my training okay this is also I teach you itachi story they're asking something sun nap i'm using g series also i'm using vnx i know all these things i don't know in infinity infinity oh there's one person who came to me for looking for training he knows this infinitart storage i don't know what is it i think proven is having that right infinite infinite storage right no no no no bro See these are the main things they are using This is Accenture SAN So they are asking NetApp C. C. means nothing but C mode Initially we used to call it C. when we had 9. 9.9 or 9.8 back in 2015 So they are asking 15 years of Mandate education So they are using these things Snapshot, SnapVault technology, SnapVault is nothing but now we call it as Vault, it is backup. Same commands we use as SnapBref but the remote volume is called as different and the type is XDP.
so i also showed in one of my session i also show this okay cifs nfs is because if you as i said right how to get shares iscsi is for lunch fcb is for lunch this is fabric switches there is network switch which is there okay this is for if you do not have money use iSCSI for performance is not good installation native installation native configuration means aggregate configurations you know aggregate creations v-server creations leaf creations okay oh these are the sorry these are oh i forgot yeah there are a lot of different questions are there leaf migrate leaf creations vlan creations v-server creations what is root volume so those things although they will ask okay but if you know the basic you just take my training right even if it's the half training okay so you'll be able to answer okay and uh non-masking tearing okay hitachi tearing i have taught uh rajdeep okay so like relocation cycle motoring cycle okay so in netapp Turing is also there but we have not used it in our environment. I need to check what we do. We need to check okay.
so storage pool is nothing but aggregates but suppose you have like blue expedite so you will have cloud tier also and you'll have your local data local data means on-premise storage cloud that is means from some other maybe amazon or google or something okay which you can use using blue xp using blue xp you can manage everything okay and zoning masking masking means learn allocation okay like mapping the learn okay so here these things so these are the things okay we can do okay capgemini okay okay wait capgemini i don't like this company okay let me check yeah so here see best practices emerging technology emerging technology means blue xp uh ecds okay namespace comes in ecds which i will teach you okay recovery point and recovery time uh when configuring the snapboard i'll show you sorry snapboard or snapgrid i'll show you how to do this uh in gui how to select the recovery point and recovery time okay you can easily configure recovery point means how much data you can afford to lose and recovery time is how soon the application will be you know up and running okay in metro cluster both is zero rtrp okay in asynchronous it will be greater than zero it cannot be zero okay capacity planning you can use solar wind tool to understand how much time it will take for the aggregate to be exhausted i use solar wind tool because i you i have a monthly capacity meeting that i need to put something for itachi i showed rajdeep i how i take the data yesterday i think or maybe we did it yesterday okay so security compliance so I had one thing yeah and that is plex error issues okay plex error so you need to check i had a fake fake plex error okay i checked it it was not there fake fake error i had okay plex like if you want to get something like you have you know plex right so multiple plex you can create right but normally you have only one plex plex zero So suppose I go for this, okay? My job salary. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. Here, this one. This is, uh, native, right?
But they want many things, okay? so you can check what are the things they're asking they're asking exclusive netapp combo or maybe some other stuff okay so they're asking all these things they're asking you combo certification here see I'm talking about this one so you can check what they're asking they're asking to know cloud they're asking to know terraform or python which you can use to do cloud automation okay they're asking to netapp okay so they're asking many things many maybe really everybody will not know everything but they're asking many things okay and i've chosen this one suppose i chose lesser salary okay instead of this i chose uh i don't choose salary i just she i just try to see every job that is there okay so you can check here okay see so how do you create nas volume sorry volume nas volume cfs and fs export policy snapboard okay word okay day to day how do you do in on top scale right so these are the things they'll do so i need to cluster you see right so was discussing so these things so you need to be very good with basics and you'll be able to do okay so we'll keep the sessions and in the sessions here and for it a G training whatever it is that they are in JD right I'm just adding these things i'll just have it taught these things on that i've also also retention so these things are there and if you know terraform with cloud right it's an added advantage especially for tcs okay because they want you to be Jack of all trades and master of none okay so that's the thing but they they won't give you a lot of work to do i trust me this is it's a good company so anyway so just try you know try uh and uh prevent if you have time we just go to the videos that i have uh you know that i have uh you know so i suppose you like that so these sessions you can go to right uh how many sessions are there particular situation or something there then go to the sessions okay and uh you'll be good pro and it will take some time for to complete your training because because native sessions are really big yeah so you'll be okay okay so and one more the good news was you know one of my one of our colleagues you know he got a job in ui for hitachi okay so he is doing really well and i can tell you one thing that in order to survive in in IT industry if you know both storage VMware and cloud and automation like cloud automation if you if you don't know so not machines okay cloud automation okay then it is just added one day because there are some openings there you see that when they're giving you more selling exactly relax early right so they are asking for telephone right you see saw that right so that's what I was king or beta cellular that's it nothing else okay and but don't leave storage because storage is something where you'll have job security okay so in my involved also they don't yeah they they don't get storage people okay So, I will drop this session here and Praveen will start your NetApp sessions this week. We will start your NetApp sessions, so don't worry about that.
And did you name your baby or? What bro? Yeah, did you get your baby delivered? Yeah bro, delivered, boy baby.
Yeah, yeah boy Yeah busy with last one week in hospital or something something that's why I didn't join That's good, so during that time I was not able to record right? I was in Kolkata, my sister was delivering the baby. So that's it. Now I have this software.
Okay, okay. I have this software, so I was taking the help from Nanda. Yeah, now your voice is very clear now, so videos, before there's some disturbance happen in that.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's okay. Yes, bro. so before that yeah before that because i was using uh yeah some other thing like zoom netapp and rajnik was having a lot of problem because hitachi whenever i'm logging to hitachi right it will automatically disconnect the zoom so 10 times 15 times it was disconnecting I was having a lot of issues netapp it was not disconnecting though so because because of some issues so VPN and something so in a row so I'll I'll ask you one thing you just do very you just study all the things that i teach you and just net up net up also i'll share you some videos also not have night i broke it broken also right i'll show you some videos of brocade so you can go through it okay and if you have broken and storage you'll be good with uh because see they will ask you they'll you'll have interviews only for 30 minutes okay and if you're if you're able to speak continuously right suppose you did you say you did metropolis they're asking what is how do you confirm it to a star and you you can speak non-stop right they'll uh they'll hire you okay so there's the thing okay so thank you so much brother for joining so thank you so much and in case somebody is doing attending some training interview something right you can I can have I can do mock interviews for you guys okay so that you are prepared okay so it will be good for you guys okay but you concentrate probably you need to consider on NetApp part sorry networking part oh yeah that is more important and for us the replication migration virtualization okay not upgrade replicas and matching functions and basic allocations and the allocations that's it that's it okay so thank you so much brother have a nice evening okay bye bye
