CNA Peri Care Procedure

Introduction

  • CNA Introduction: Patti introduces herself as the CNA to the patient, Miss Jones.
  • Permission: Asks for permission to perform peri care.
  • Preparation:
    • Closes curtain for privacy.
    • Washes hands.
    • Gathers supplies.

Supplies Needed

  • Two chucks
  • Four washcloths
  • Privacy blanket
  • Towel
  • Basin
  • Soap
  • Gloves

Preparing the Basin

  • Uses a paper towel to turn on water (warm temperature).
  • Miss Jones checks water temperature.
  • Washcloth placed in the basin.

Privacy and Setup

  • Privacy Blanket:
    • Spread out over Miss Jones to keep warm and maintain privacy.
    • Sheet pulled down to knees.
  • Chucks Preparation:
    • Unfolds and rolls chucks toward self.
  • Gloves: Put on before starting the procedure.

Changing the Chucks

  1. Patient Positioning:
    • Miss Jones scoots toward Patti.
    • Rolls Miss Jones onto her side to change soiled chucks.
  2. Replacement Process:
    • Rolls soiled chucks toward patient.
    • Unrolls clean chucks.
    • Repeats from the other side.

Cleaning Process

Front Cleaning

  • Uncovers Peri Area:
    • Blanket rolled up to waist.
    • Gown rolled with blanket.
    • Upper legs covered with towel.
  • Washcloth Use:
    • Soaks five corners.
    • Cleaning Steps:
      1. Top to bottom middle clean.
      2. Outside labia clean, each side.
      3. Skin fold clean, each side.
    • Rinsing: Uses second washcloth to rinse in the same order.
    • Drying: Gentle pats or short strokes to dry.

Back Cleaning

  • Repositioning:
    • Scoots Miss Jones and rolls onto side.
    • Evaluator holds mannequin in place.
  • Washcloth Use:
    • Soaks four corners for cleaning.
    • Cleaning Steps:
      1. Start at the anal opening, up the center crease.
      2. Cleans each buttocks and crease.
    • Rinsing: Uses another washcloth to rinse in the same manner.
    • Drying: Pat dry all areas.

Final Steps

  • Change Chucks:
    • Removes soiled chucks and replaces with clean.
  • Clean Up:
    • Puts away soiled items, cleans basin with paper towel, discards waste.
    • Basin cleaned, dried inside and out, and stored.
    • Disposes of paper towels and barrier.
    • Gloves removed.
  • Comfort and Final Check:
    • Privacy blanket removed and sheet pulled up.
    • Asks Miss Jones if comfortable or needs anything.
    • Provides call light.
    • Curtain opened, hands washed.
    • Reviews procedure steps and confirms completion with evaluator.
