[Music] as act 1 scene 7 of Macbeth begins the servants prepare a banquet to honor the King Macbeth debates with himself and Shores up his courage to kill Duncan Lady Macbeth walks in and Macbeth tells her they will proceed no further with the plan citing the honors Duncan has granted him she responds by questioning his courage and his manhood and asks why he told her about the witches if he didn't want to become King she assures him their plan will succeed if Macbeth does what he is supposed to do she will get Duncan's guards drunk and Macbeth will sneak into Duncan's room and stab him in his sleep when everyone finds out they will blame the servants convinced at last Macbeth praises his wife's nerve he is ready Macbeth soliloquy at the start of the scene reveals him to be a deeply divided character he is aware of the ethical duties of being host yet is ready to violate those principles he is fearful of the uncontrollable consequences of murder yet he is eager to reap the rewards the conversation between Macbeth and his wife presents her as the architect of the assassination Macbeth on the other hand plays both co-conspirator and skeptic when he tries to dissuade his wife she says he owes his loyalty to her not the king she says she would rather kill her own child than break the murder pact they have made another rejection of the nurturing feminine ideal [Music] you
