Okay, so this next mnemonic is to help you remember the signs and symptoms of inflammation. So what is inflammation? Inflammation is the response to tissue damage that the body elicits.
It's this inflammatory response in an attempt to get rid of this initial offender that's causing the inflammation in the first place. So, you know, while this is a good response, it can be more of a problem than a solution later down the line. So it's important for us to notice issues and signs and symptoms of inflammation.
So the mnemonic is HYPER, H-I-P-E-R. And the letters stand for H, heat. So if you touch the area and it feels warm. I, indurations, and indurations is just another way, another word for hardening, so if the area is hard. P, pain, patient's going to be experiencing discomfort and pain.
It may be difficult to differentiate that between the pain related to the inflammation or pain related to whatever the initial issue is in the first place, so keep that in mind. The next one, the E is edema, so swelling, localized swelling in that area. And the R is redness. So the area is becoming red. So again, it's hyper, H-I-P-E-R, heat, indurations, pain, edema, and redness.
