Requirements

  1. Moddable Nintendo Switch
    • Check if your Switch is moddable using the serial number on the switch or via system settings.
    • Use the website ismySwitchpatched.com to verify if your Switch is patched.
    • Unpatched (Green) = Good to mod.

    • Patched (Red) = Requires hardware modifications (not covered in this tutorial).
  2. Micro SD Card and Reader
    • Format to FAT32 to avoid file corruption.
  3. RCM Jig
    • For less than $10 on Amazon; shorts specific pins on the right joy-con rail.
    • Allows access to recovery mode.
  4. USB-C Cable
    • For connecting Switch to PC.

Backing Up and Formatting the SD Card

  1. Turn off the Switch
    • Hold power, select power options, then turn off.
  2. SD Card to PC
    • Back up important files, especially from the Nintendo folder.
    • Check file system in Properties:
      • If exFAT, delete Nintendo folder and redownload games later.
      • If FAT32, back up the Nintendo folder.
  3. Use Hekate for SD Card Formatting
    • Download hekat.zip from the Hekate GitHub page and extract it.
    • Move bootloader to SD card, hekate.bin to PC.
    • Download TegraRCMGUI from GitHub for payload injection.

Injecting Hekate and Atmosphere Setup

  1. Injecting Hekate Payload
    • Use TegraRCMGUI to send hekate.bin to Switch.
    • Put Switch in RCM mode using jig, hold volume up + power, and inject payload.
  2. Partition SD in Hekate
    • Set sliders to zero, follow instructions to format the SD card.
  3. Setting Up Atmosphere Custom Firmware
    • Download atmosphere.zip and fusee.bin from GitHub releases.
    • Extract and move contents of atmosphere.zip to SD card root.
    • Place fusee.bin on PC for payload injection.
  4. Inject Atmosphere Payload
    • Use TegraRCMGUI to send fusee.bin.
    • Switch boots into Atmosphere. Keep Switch in sleep mode to stay in Atmosphere.

Using Homebrew and Homebrew App Store

  1. Access Homebrew Menu
    • Open either through Album or a game (hold R for more RAM access).
  2. USB File Transfer via Homebrew
    • Use title takeover for optimal performance.
    • Access SD card directly from PC while connected via USB.
  3. Install Homebrew App Store
    • Download appstore.nro from GitHub.
    • Place in switch folder on SD card.
