AutoCAD Fillet Command Lecture Notes

Introduction

  • Instructor: Randy Dobson
  • Location: Houston, Texas
  • Topic: Fillet command in AutoCAD
  • Pronunciation Note: Often referred to as "fillet" by the instructor

Fillet Command Overview

  • Creates a tangent arc between two lines
  • Can trim or extend lines
  • Shares command location with the Chamfer command

Steps to Use Fillet Command

  1. Set Radius
    • Default radius often is zero
    • Must input desired radius before selecting lines
    • Example given with radius set to 2
  2. Select Lines
    • Choose the lines to apply the fillet
    • Demonstrates with radius 2: lines are extended and rounded

Features and Settings

  • Current Setting Mode: Trim
    • Default trims lines to meet at the arc
    • Can adjust to "No Trim" to leave lines extended
    • Setting remains until changed back
  • Adjusting Radius
    • Change radius for different arc sizes
    • Does not erase previous settings automatically

Additional Tips

  • Creating Perfect Corners
    • Use a radius of zero to create an absolute corner
    • Works similarly with Chamfer command

Key Characteristics of Fillet

  • Tangent arc is always tangent to the selected lines
  • Important Reminder: Input desired radius before selecting lines

Conclusion

  • Emphasized the simplicity but powerful nature of the fillet command
  • Encouraged referring to related videos, such as the circle video for tangent concepts
  • End of session note on pronunciation and command name
