Hi, and welcome at your guitar workshop dot com. In this lesson we are going to be looking at how to do a proper pinched harmonic. I've set up the camera to look from above so you see exactly what I'm doing. It's not hard so let's just get right into it, here we go. To follow along put your finger in 7th position of your g string. Then first you just play that string, like that. Now what I want you to do is to sort of put your pick on the string and then push it inwards and then let it bounce back, like that. The next step what you do is when it bounces back you let it hit the side of your thumb, like that, right? Now what is good to know is that where you place your pick has an effect on whether you'd actually hear a harmonic and also which pitch it has. So this one for me on my guitar is located here but if I move back to towards the bridge, sorry, the neck pickup, the pitch goes down. The closer you get to the bridge the harder it becomes to get a really good tone. So I guess the sweet spot is sort of in this in this area. So once more to recap push into the string and then the swing bounces back against the side of your thumb. Now note that when you would move for instance your finger to third position you would have to move the place where you make that harmonic also a bit closer towards the neck pick up. Over time if you play these things enough you sort of start to get a feeling a sense of where they should be. But yeah, this is how you do your pinch harmonics on the electric guitar
