hello guys welcome back to my next video in my ap english language exam series so today i am coming at you with the multiple choice section of this exam so in my last video i gave you a breakdown over the entire ap english language and composition exam and i'm so happy you're back if you're back it means you have recovered from emotional damage all of the information that i gave you in the last video so in this video i'm going to go into a further detail about the different types of questions that you'll see on the multiple choice section remember there are two main types of reading and comprehension but i'm gonna go a little bit further into what exactly those questions will look like on the exam so here are the main types of questions that you will see on the ap english language exam you cannot be for real oh my god you for real no you for fake no you for real and let's go ahead and dive deeper into what exactly these questions look like [Music] so the first type of question it is the reading comprehension question and with these kinds of questions you're basically just making sure and showing that you understand the passage all you have to do is read the passage and hopefully by reading the passage you're able to understand which of these answer choices is going to be the best fit the next type of questions that you're going to see on the multiple choice section are the author's purpose and meaning questions and it's exactly what it sounds like what is the author's purpose how does it fit within the message of the text and why was it written these types of questions are just asked why did the author do the things that they did understanding the way rhetoric works you should be able to figure out the answer to this question so here are a couple of sentence stems that may start off in a question such as this and basically even though they're all worded differently they are all trying to get at the same thing why is the author doing the things that they're doing so the next type of questions are implication or inference questions and basically you just have to read between the lines they can be a bit tricky especially if you don't already understand the passage as a whole on a basic level so now i want to introduce you guys to my friend space cat it's a cat in an astronaut outfit space cat is just an acronym for speaker purpose audience context accidents choices appeals and tone i almost forgot there myself but space cat is going to help you remember what are all the things you should be looking for within a passage especially on those reading comprehension questions so that you can make the best decision in regards to the questions that you see if you would like further instruction on what exactly is the rhetorical situation go ahead and subscribe to my channel below and be ready for when that video comes out because it will definitely be coming out and enough time for you to understand it practice it and repeat those two steps in time for the ap english language exam may 10 2022. so earlier i mentioned relationships and you will definitely see questions talking about different relationships within a passage that is its own special category and you're really just looking at how different topics within the passage connect to each [Music] other so those are all of the different types of questions that you'll see and of course it wouldn't be me if i didn't leave you guys with some quintessential tips and tricks to help you be successful with answering those different types of questions the first one is just read the questions first each time you encounter a passage go skim through the questions so you can already have in the back of your mind what you are looking for my second tip is just to annotate the passage whole test is on paper and pencil mark it up you annotate in class every day use those same skills on the test because it's going to help if you can keep track of different questions where you may find the answer within the passage after you finish the passage see if you can quickly identify the main idea or even the author's claim of that passage that's going to help direct your thoughts whenever you're getting to those multiple choice questions like i said you have a minute and a half to answer each of the questions on the multiple choice section of the exam so make sure if it's referencing a specific line within the passage go back and read that line you want to make sure that you understand what the line is asking you so just take a second maybe 10 seconds to go back and reread those specific lines so that you don't get tripped up by the wording of the answer choices some of the answer choices are going to be wrong when you are looking at what to choose eliminate them all it does is increase your chances of picking the right choice and then last but not least don't second-guess yourself i have had so many students tell me oh i could have gotten that one right but i changed my mind don't change your mind go with your good if you have to think about changing an answer automatically move on to the next one so that is my quick breakdown of the ap english language and composition exam the multiple choice section the first section that you will take and i really hope that you guys gathered some insight and are feeling a little bit better about taking this part of the test i am so powerful my mind oh it amazes me sometimes like i said before i am hey teacher brumfield your friendly teacher to help you through this stressful stressful time and let me know down below which of these question types do you think is the easiest to get correct and which one do you think is the most challenging to you i'm really interested to see what you guys have to say so until next time i'm gonna go ahead and say bye and class is dismissed see you later [Music] you
