Understanding Ancient Egyptian Art Style

out of all Ancient Art Egyptian art may be the most distinctive of all if you've ever seen a painting from the walls of an ancient Egyptian tomb whether in a photograph or in real life you may notice that everything looks flat or more importantly everyone is an inside profile but why is this it's not that the ancient Egyptians didn't have the ability to paint realistically they most definitely did there are many examples from first to third Century A.D of this so why did the ancient Egyptians stick to a more simplistic style before I give you the answer I'm going to give you a brief analysis of one particular painting bird hunt in the Underworld this paint was discovered on the walls of the two open sorry I I don't think I pronounced that right please let me know the pronunciation in the comments below if I pronounced it wrong this this tomb was in Thebes the focal point of the painting is a man holding a snake in his left hand and grabbing a bird with his right hand off to the left side of the painting shows the man's wife who is shown to be significantly smaller than him whether she was taller than him or not she was paying this way because of the traditional pictorial hierarchy below them clinging to her father's legs as their daughter who was the smallest of all because again pictorial hierarchy and of course one noticeable thing about this painting is that every single figure is in the side profile even the cats again so why are these figures in a side profile the answer is a little less exciting than you probably hoped it's less exciting than I hoped ancient Egyptian artists were more focused on representing aspects of people and let's focused on realism so there's your answer when I was researching this topic the answer was a little less exciting than I hoped it would be as well but I'm glad I learned something and I hope you did too thank you for watching and I see you next Friday bye
