okay good day everyone my name is leah murray see libras and for today's video i will discuss to you about chapter three school mission vision and values so without further ado let's get started so the foundation of school cultures elements lays at the mission and vision of the school so underlying the mission and vision statements are the values that school holds which determine what philosophy standards and individual will assimilate and incorporate into his or her everyday teaching and learning so let's talk about the mission vision and values so we first we have mission mission describe a school's day-to-day operational objectives its instructional values or its public commitments to its students and community so the mission statement describe what the organization needs to do now to achieve the vision so the vision and mission statements must support each other but the mission statement is more space specific so next one is division so the vision is a public declaration that schools or other educational organizations use to describe the higher level of goals for the future so the vision is the broad description of the values schools provided it is a visual image of what school is trying to produce or to become so it should be inspire people or motivate them to want to be part and contribute to the school in an organization so the values so the value supports the mission vision shapes the culture and reflect what the school values so the school values are the core values i mean it's called um the other term is called called code of ethics so it differs from the both and mission and vision statement so the vision and mission state where the organization is going the vision and what will do to to get there the mission so that they direct the effort of people in organization towards the common goal so um the value statement defines what the organization believes in and how people in the organization are expected to behave with each other with the students the teachers and other stakeholders so it also provides a moral dis direction for the school that gets decision making and it establishes a standard for assessing actions so together with the mission and vision and value statement it provides direction for everything that happens in organization in or in school so they keep everyone focused on where the organization is going and what is trying to achieve so they define um the core values and of their organization of how people are expected to behave as what i've said earlier right so every school crop their mission and vision statement to draw the direction of the institution so according to peterson and deal 2009 um the mission revisions mirror what school wishes and hopes eventually become and accomplish here the department of education created their vision and mission that every public school should reinforce so here are the div ed's mission vision and core values so okay so in addition to the mission vision statement a school has a values of beliefs and assumptions and norms that guided and control the behavior of schools individuals that involve so values are expressed as the way the schools communicate um what it represents and ushers decision making and priorities so moreover um the values are the core of what the school consider is important so the values are the standard set for what is good and what quality means and what defined excellence or in other words what is a youth so beliefs are understanding about the world around us so they are consciously held cognitive views about the truth and through and the reality so in addition beliefs are how we understand the world and people around us well assumptions are a set of beliefs perception and values that guides behavior so collectively the norms um encapsulate all of this aspect so according to peterson and due 2009 norms are unspoken expectations and rules the staff the student and students are supposed to follow based on the beliefs values assumptions of the school so we have norms so a norm norms refers to the attitudes and beliefs or behaviors that are considered typical or average of a social group while beliefs are often referred to as values so norms are support values norms are learned um learned by what people say think and do so cultural norms are values are that pass down to people through their families friends and acquaintances with the expectation that they will be adopted by the first person which shapes them or shapes this society as a whole so norms shapes reaction to internally or externally proposed or imposed by improvements so it is important for those working in schools and outsiders supporting supporting them to understand their norms and embedded in the changes and those within the schools on culture so some norms are more sacred than the others so for example some are um some are some people are fundamental belief that ability is inherited so other you either um have it or you do not so therefore some children are unable to learn so we have here 10 cultural norms so first is shared goals we know where we're going so when individuals are empowered to take ownership of their goals it can cause a shift in the culture or in a school so as individuals learn how to work alignment with the society school's vision and values so a new set of relations norms are created in which are less to do with individuals so we are but we are now more to do with generating and seeking the whole school success so the vision of the school is not just understood but also shared by all so from the senior management team through the support staff so everyone knows what the goals mean and how they relate to the achievement of the school's vision so individuals are clear about the actions they think that they need to take care of these goals to be fulfilled so number two we have responsibility for success we must succeed third collegiality where we're we're working on this together so the school culture is supported when there is strong camaraderie amongst between all the staff with relationship built upon trust and understanding so the professional bands that exist among staff members are strong enough whether the storms that can hit the school communities so there is a shared sense of belong belongingness on the purpose and a desire for the vision of the school to be fulfilled so no one is working for themselves so no one is left out right so all staffs are made to feel welcome and everyone is treated as a part of the team number four continuous improvement we can get better so individuals in a positive school culture know that there is always a capacity and room for school life and not just limited to going out on a corset so staff are empowered to view themselves as a lifelong learners and to help facilitate the learning of others within the school so learning is seen as a key part of the adult learning journey enabling individuals to achieve every vira varying degree of personal and professional maturity so we have number five lifelong learning so learning is for everyone i know all of you know this so lifelong learning recognizes that humans have a natural drive to explore learn and grow and encourages us to improve our own quality of life and sense of self-worth by paying attention to the ideas and goals that inspires us so we are all lifelong learners right so but what does the personal fulfillment mean so the reality is that most of us have goals in our interests outside of our former schooling or job so this this is the part of what is what it means to be you man so we have a natural curiosity we are and we are natural learners so we develop and grow thanks to our ability to learn just like in school or inside the classroom so the lifelong learning implies that learning does not end when you leave a classroom or finish a degree rather as you go through life it is essential for you to continually connect with other professionals to learn to teach and to share resources so lifelong learning recognizes um not that not all of our learning comes from a school so for example in childhood we learn to talk or ride a bike so as an adult we learn how to use smartphone or learn how to cook a new dish so this is our example of everyday lifelong learning we engage on a daily basis either through socialization try and error and self initiated study risk taking so we learn by trying something new so where risk taking is commonplace um there is a freedom called courage and a joy in which teachers and senior leaders go about their daily tasks so creativity is let loose and individuals discover previously and the unidentified rules for fulfilling their potential so in this culture a growth um mindset is adopted by all of us such as mistakes are not seen as a failure but as a source of learning and growth so by trying ideas and initiatives um enough experiment with new ways of doing this staffs and schools leaders learn what works and what doesn't and bigger and better vision of themselves number seven support there's always someone there to help so according to stall and finn 1996 um the school principals must have always be there to provide support wherever it is needed so he or she must be a good listener so that that if the um what you call this the effective communication prevails in the organization eight mutual respects so everyone has something to offer so stolen fake 1996 um that indicates that a good principal makes his or her subordinate teachers aware of their importance at work so the principle and the stuff considers the differences between the people as mutually enriching source of strength so this implies um this people lead from the other people experience to improve or broaden their knowledge so therefore they must respect others opinion to allow growth of their knowledge so number nine openness we can discuss our differences and the tenth or the last one is celebration and humor so we feel good about ourselves so in a positive school culture achievements whether big or small are appreciated and celebrate not celebrated so because research has shown that when we feel good about ourselves and our achievements that recognize we not only feel better about both ourselves but it also optimizes the way in which our brains function so we are more likely to enter a state of flow and maximize our own levels of performance so thus celebrating team and individuals success is key to the development of high performance performing teams so on top of this joy and laughter presents in school life so the school um days provide everyone with opportunities to relax reflect to be themselves with colleges and to have moments where they can be less serious so when this when this is the case staff film your content and passionate and their role so that's it so i hope you learned something about this topic so thank you for watching
