Intracellular Receptors and Gene Regulation

[Music] how intracellular receptors regulating transcription many cell signals are small lipid soluble molecules that can readily crosses all membrane where they interact with the receptor protein in the cytoplasm or in the nucleus intracellular receptors may trigger a variety of responses for example some act as regulators of gene transcription these receptors have a binding site for DNA in the active state the receptor cannot bind to DNA because an inhibitor protein occupies a binding site when a signal molecule binds to another site and the receptor the inhibitor is released and the DNA binding site is exposed the receptor then enters the nucleus and binds to a specific nucleotide sequence on the DNA which activates transcription of a particular gene usually located adjacent to the regulatory site the target cells response depends on the nature of the cell
