Al Oni also known as blue demon in English is a Japanese RPG Maker horror game that released in 2008 played a large part in the RPG Maker engines Fame and gave motivation to a lot of modern horror developers on top of that it was adapted into anime light novels manga and even two full liveaction movies the game was actually better than I had expected and it was a very good survival horror game it was one of the only pixel games to actually scare me in Parts the story was also a surprise I thought it was going to be overly lore based its popularity but it turned out to actually be very straightforward The Story begins with four students Ma takushi takuro and the main character Hiroshi they've come to an abandoned mansion in the woods off the outskirts of town they heard a rumor that a monster lives inside and being curious and seeking a thrill they walk in the front doors they enter a Barren Lobby and they know how cold it is inside the house as they're starting to get a little apprehensive about actually being inside they hear a loud crack ing sound come from down one of the Halls that sounds almost like glass Hiroshi the protagonist decides to go check it out alone he goes through the hall into a kitchen turns out a plate fell and shattered from up above relieving yet still a little worrying Hiroshi walks back to the others to tell them once Yosi gets back to the main hall everyone's gone the house is silent besides the sound of the Roaring wind outside he decides to explore the house as much as he can there are many doors and hallways some being locked and others opening to bedrooms and bathrooms he keeps exploring going from floor to floor he finds that it's a three floor building so not too many places to go to Hiroshi comes to a room on the second floor and finds a key he opens a cabinet in the corner of the room finding Takashi terrified Takashi is shivering in place quietly when Hiroshi asks him what happened and where everyone went he says nothing he just keeps shivering Yoshi leaves wanting to find the other two people so he keeps exploring and comes to a library on the first floor he sees a pile of papers on a table near some bookshelves he moves them finding yet another key to one of the locked doors of the Mansion grabbing the key from the table he catches something in the corner of his eye it's coming closer with extreme speed Yoshi's heart sinks as his body's Frozen he barely rears his head around towards the thing to see an blue in human shape resembling a giant manlike monster barreling toward him does an extreme large mouth nose and eyes and is clearly hostile right before making contact Hoshi jolts his body into action sprinting through the bookshelves and out of the library Yoshi runs through the halls and up the stairs towards the room where Takashi was takashi's gone but that works just fine Yoshi climbs in the cabinet that hous Takashi before he cradles his chest as his heart pounds from what he just saw he now realizes why takushi was reacting that way it wasn't a show there's loud pounds coming up the steps and in front of the door the door creaks open Yoshi holds its breath as whatever's inside the room with him walks around trying to find him large footsteps come closer to the cabinet slowly the subtle noise of the floorboards under the stalled feet of the Beast will never leave his mind seconds feel like minutes of silence after several moments they finally walk away from the cabinet and around the room and outside the door it creaks once more signaling that the monster left Hoshi comes out of the cabinet exasperated at what just occurred there really was a monster in this Mansion he has never seen anything like it in his life he never thought anything like that could exist it was outside the realm of science to him he needs to find the others quickly and leave going straight for the main entranceway door now to check if anyone else went outside ahead of him first he finds it's completely sealed doesn't matter how it happened or if the blue thing did it fact is they cannot leave through where they came from any longer Hiroshi finds items around the house that let him explore new rooms bit by bit something is wrong about this place household items are seemingly scattered at random amongst near Barren rooms he keeps finding clues that are oddly placed for instance he finds blood on a piano upstairs and once it was smeared off numbers lay under the blood revealing a safe code on the wall they give him another key were these things done on purpose or just some insane form of happen stance if it means he could survive with a friends it doesn't matter Hiroshi keeps searching and solving anything he can to escape coming to the end room of the top floor he searches a dresser from behind him comes takuro his other friend walks in they greet each other excitedly with relief and talk about what they just saw the thing that lurks in the house and what to do about it theur says they need to get out so he decides it's best to split up to cover more ground dururo decides to take the first floor and departs Yoshi moves downstairs to the second floor to cover as completely as he can he unlocks the last door he couldn't get into here and inside he finds his last friend ma she's safe and sound hiding behind a bed in the corner of the room they catch up too and then Hiroshi ask mik to stay put as they find out how to get out M agrees and sticks to her hiding spot covering everything the top two floors had he Yoshi goes down to the main level now to find takuro at the end of a long hallway he sees old tatami mats with sliding paper doors they're little out of place compared to the rest of the house since everything in the house is basically modern and generic for the most part stepping on the tatami Hiroshi reaches forward to slide open the closet at the back from the darkness out pops the Demonic Oni in a flash it lunges forward at Hiroshi and almost grabs him this time Hiroshi thrown back from the shock starts booking it up and down the halls and around corners the heavy steps follow and Creek the wooden ground instead of hiding this time he keeps running all the way to the back of the first floor goes all the way to the kitchen and hides behind the kitchen counter the loud sounds keep following for a bit but eventually turn and go in another direction right before reaching the kitchen Yoshi pops his head up over the counter that he was crouching under and makes a break for the tatami room once again albeit much quieter and slower this time around he does find a lighter in the closet that the Oni popped out from looking around a bit more there's no sign up to Kuro but there is one Discovery a film behind some wallpaper theed to Tommy he peels it back revealing another door a secret door going through he comes to a room of black not a single light to be found using the lighter he just found it gives the faintest form of visibility just enough to move around nothing special is found here but bookcases and a desk open for absolutely anything he tries to move things around a bit and he does end up finding yet another door behind a bookshelf in the back this room is a bit more worrying than the rest as he goes through it's a small room with nothing but a caged wall and a sliding cage door on the other side of the cage is a sparkling key Yoshi walks in but before grabbing the key he sent SES something to be wrong with this setup it feels too out of place he closes the cage door behind him as he walks in to be safe kneeling down and picking it up it should be the last key needed for the final door to the last room he couldn't unlock at the back of the first floor leaning up now he turns around and directly in front of his face is the Abomination it let itself in with an instant of the cage shutting the monster's huge eyes glaze as they're right right beside hiroshi's face staring at him dead on its hands grip the cage nothing but direct malice is felt from the being that looks straight through him it doesn't seem to be able to open the cage hiroshi's Superstition to close the door was right after moments that feel like an eternity it loosens its grip backing away and advancing down the hall Yoshi hanging on to what sanity he has left after the confrontation braces himself as he leaves the cell and sneaks out toward the last door he makes it there and it unlocks thankfully right as that happens a blood curdling scream is heard from upstairs a girl's voice it's m Hiroshi Sprints into the main hall and up the stairs towards the room mik was hiding in bursting through the door he sees it the monster it's hunched over its back turned to him a pool of blood seeps out beneath it with an arm barely poking out from hiroshi's point of view it's ma it's killed M and looks to be eating her while he was cozy in the cell terrified waiting in place waiting for time to pass it had all the time in the world to make its way up here with no obstacles to kill his friend he roshi is once again stunned in place at the realization and at the horrid sight in front of him no matter if he is able to escape from here on now this image will stay the monster preoccupied hears Hiroshi on the hardwoods standing there its ugly head rears around and those same glassy eyes widen at the prey that came right to it another Chase ensues Yoshi runs down toward the last door again and hides near it he gets away much quicker this time around maybe he's getting better at this or maybe it was slowed down from its earlier activity it Retreats somewhere Hoshi goes to the door and arrives in a new area the basement of the house it's a fairly large large basement with multiple rooms in another caged area what house has cages in it like this why are they here there are no real answers that could be found currently Beyond speculation for what was going on here in the past solving more puzzles Hiroshi returns to the main room of the basement he entered in at there stands a girl in the distance he gets closer it's not just any girl it's ma she's alive no he knows he saw her dead underneath that thing's body she's just standing there unmoving Hiroshi hopeful and anxious about his friend moves closer slowly once in Clear Vision mik's still body and blank staring face contort into a bluish purple Mound her arms and limbs stretch out into Globs they enlarge in and become another blue Oni but with hair resembling Maas it wasn't her it either took on her appearance and masqueraded as the being it just prayed upon or it reanimated her body as one of its own it's most likely the former it seems like it knows how to trap Yoshi to an extent and it just transformed into its victim to do it Yoshi runs past the M reminiscent Oni and towards another back door everything in the basement has been searched leaving Hiroshi with another key Hiroshi runs through Hall after Hall and makes it through the back door yet another new area behind the basement this area is much more beat up and seemingly abandoned long before the main house was there are windows to the outside he sees the rain sheding against the paint of the glass and notices that it's much darker now than once they arrived here coming to a pitch black dark room he grabs his lighter to see a scream comes from directly next to him right in his ear before he could light it a familiar Voice rings out and the lighter's flame burns up as Hoshi lights it it's Takashi he made it here he's shivering just like he was before when we found him a while back Yoshi exclaims in Glee in excitement at his friend's well-being but Takashi doesn't return the feeling he's well past the point of being okay takushi says it's just a matter of time before he's caught by the monster he says he was the one who recommended they come here and that it's his fault that this happened before her roshi can even get a word in Takashi screams in paranoia and fleas the room this old Annex area of the Mansion takes a while to search more foreign Trinkets and Oddities line the broken down walls and butchered wooden floors Hiroshi grabs whatever will allow him to advance another room he finds is one with a nice dining hall with chalice cups in the fireplace it's not lit of course given how ancient this building is so he decides to light it with his lighter he reaches towards the mantle and out from under comes the Oni climbing out of the shadowed fireplace coming towards him it always reveals itself within an inch of him but he Sprints away and hides at the last moment once again Yoshi has definitely gotten better at evading the creature and rarely comes into contact with it now returning to a strange room he went into before resuming his exploration he opens the door from the red Hall and sees a ghastly sight his friend takushi the rope that was in that room made a noose Tangled from the ceiling the chair had been pushed to the center of the room directly underneath it it was toppled over and above it was takashi's lifeless corpse hung his cord completely still around his neck Yoshi's Panic turns into silence as he shuts the door he just opened there's nothing left in this place now pushing whatever feelings down he needs to he's too close now to stop but just like M A takushi resembling Oni follows him out of the room running after him there is a small small hope left advancing further down into the basement of the annex Hiroshi secures himself deeper into the mansion's Labyrinth there's not much here but more Barren rooms probably untouched for decades now just dust and rotten gray walls and floorboards Yoshi notices another cupboard in the back of an open room he checks it out to mark it as a viable hiding place for later he opens it and finds takuro his last friend is still alive even after everything that's happened he still gets excited to see his friend if not even more now knowing that he's not in this completely alone takuro apparently twisted his ankle probably while running so he decides to stay put as Hiroshi finds the Escape Route takuro is still more downtrodden than before but that's to be expected a door in the basement does end up leading to a small cave underneath the Mansion Yoshi follows the path down trudged with wet purple rock at the very end is in fact a rope ladder leading to the outside it's the Escape Route it's right in sight you could climb out right now and be home free but that's not an option however running back without a second thought he makes it all the way back to the cabinet Sheltering takuro thankfully still inside takuro leaps out with positive surprise and they finally travel together they run for the cave and make it to the path hearing the heavy rainfall coming through the hole ahead they move quicker the Dank moist air fills the cavern and through the Misty dark they see it the only knew it's sitting on the wet Cobblestone ground with a sinful contentment as it gnaws on their final hope the rope ladder is inside of its huge semi I humanlike mouth they got too close too soon to the beast at first Contact Hiroshi and takuro both turned around like lightning to knock get spotted they were used to the chase now but it was far too late to evade its gaze Yoshi got furthest away with a Flash and looked back to takuro yelping takuro sprained ankle ended up giving out on him and he laid there screaming he screamed as he watched the blue demon Lurch forward slowly the monster clearly enjoys the hunt because it slowed once it knew toiro was secured with no other choice Hiroshi didn't look back after he saw the incident he kept running leaving the last of his friends he entered with to be killed was there any point to running now was there any way out and if there was everyone's dead thoughts fill the air as Hiroshi makes it to Temporary safety there was one last thing that he remembered that weird room in the abandoned Annex he has another key he never used there was that door right behind the wallpaper that he never opened he backtracks to it and sure enough it opens this time however it does lead to the outside he feels the rain hit his skin the first time outside of the house since arriving it's an inclosed space though it's not just over yet this area is behind the mansion He follows the walled path to the final building a water damaged storage building to the side of the Mansion it's not an average storage though there's room with beds and scribbled paintings on the walls there a church built into a medium-sized room with pews and an altar the altar looks foreign not NE necessarily part of any mainstream religion Yoshi is able to move the altar by pressing buttons underneath the pews a staircase down shows itself as the alter moves again there's only speculation as to why these things are here whoever was here before this is long gone was the only a person or did someone give birth to the creature in this building underneath the church room is a cavern with more cells and hospitales beds it's filthy and dirty entering one in the very back leads to a large open space with one huge celled wall Yoshi sees many different forms and shapes of Oni cluttering around the space did people rot in these cells and become Oni or did someone make them and then imprison them here to keep themselves safe this could be all in hiroshi's mind from a sanity dropping after what he's been through one of the Oni does manage to open the cell door and he does start walking toward him slowly Hiroshi grabs onto the door knob to get out but it's stuck he pulls over and over again quickly with as much force as possible the Oni gets near him and just before contact he makes it through and slams the door behind him once calmed down Hiroshi opens the door again this time the cell room is empty not a single Oni remained maybe he did imagine it he steps into the cage and his friend takuro greets him from the back he didn't actually see him get killed so this has to be him takuro seems off but not like M was he doesn't speak too much and he joins the party again pretty silently they take off towards the final door leading out of the building Hiroshi snaps the last piece in place unlocking the final door and looks back he was wrong takuro was like M takuro contorts and shifts just like her and Takashi turning into one of them there's a feeling this time though in Hiroshi he knew this will be the final confrontation slipping away from the monster and back around he makes it to the exit door he Sprints through another Stone hallway towards a tier of lights going up a small set of steps the rain hits him again he's outside this time not on the mansion's grounds the Oni is still behind him but it doesn't matter he's free Yoshi runs through the woods and all the way back to town leaving the Oni in the distance standing there maliciously staring at the prey That Got Away he did it he escaped he recounts what happened and states that takuro and the others are still missing to this day a final scene plays of a man in the mansion's main hall running towards the entrance door it's locked just like when they entered he can't get out and the Oni comes sprinting towards him the man screams as the Oni ENT his life this ending either means the cycle of Bloodshed continues or maybe this was the man that lived at the Mansion before all of this he could just be a resident or maybe even the one who caused the on to be born in the first place once again a speculative scene ends the game I hope you all enjoyed the story of Al onlyi there wasn't anything like lore notes in this game very little dialogue and nothing that gives concrete answers like I said at the beginning the story is very straightforward kids enter a creepy building and get hunted by a creature the VIS visuals however are up to us to interpret let me know what you think of the story in the comments
