Introduction
- Objective: To determine your English CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level through 30 questions.
- Structure: The test is divided into three sections: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
- Instructions: Choose the correct sentence out of three options.
Beginner Level Questions (A1 and A2)
Question Summaries
- He has a new car: Use 'has' with 'he', 'she', 'it'; use 'have' with 'I', 'you', 'we', 'they'.
- Emily lives in New York: Use 'in' for cities, 'on' for streets.
- I don't like boring books: Use 'don't' for 'I', 'you', 'we', 'they'; use 'doesn't' for 'he', 'she', 'it'.
- The man sings very loudly: 'Loudly' is an adverb.
- Are you going to call her tomorrow?: 'Going to' indicates future plans.
- Where is the closest subway station?: Use 'closest' (superlative form).
- Did you work yesterday?: 'Did' is used in questions about past simple tense.
- James can speak English: Modals (can, could, may, etc.) use the base verb form.
- I started learning French seven years ago: Use 'ago' to refer to a past moment.
- There is some coffee in my cup: 'Coffee' is an uncountable noun.
Results Interpretation
- 6+ correct: Likely A1 or above
- 9+ correct: Probably A2 level
Intermediate Level Questions (B1 and B2)
Question Summaries
- Have you finished your homework?: Use present perfect for unspecified past events.
- My father takes a three-mile walk every day: Use hyphens for compound adjectives.
- Eric asked his boss for a raise: Correct collocation.
- If I eat too much, I'll be sick: Use first conditional structure.
- My brother hasn't gone skydiving and neither have I: Use 'neither' for negative restatements.
- The car broke down while we were driving: 'Broke down' means to stop working.
- The new neighbors moved in the other day: 'The other day' indicates recent past.
- If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about it: Use second conditional for imaginary conditions.
- When Bridget was a kid, she used to play soccer: 'Used to' indicates past habits.
- The manager was tired because he had been working all day: Use past perfect continuous.
Results Interpretation
- 6+ correct: Likely B1 level or above
- 9+ correct: Probably B2 level
Advanced Level Questions (C1 and C2)
Question Summaries
- It's very impractical: 'Impractical' means unrealistic.
- Creative people need to think outside the box: Idiom for fresh ideas.
- ...she will have visited more than 35 countries: Future perfect tense.
- She's completely over it: 'Over it' means lost interest.
- Having led a team of researchers...: Use perfect gerund form.
- I don't mean to be presumptuous: 'Presumptuous' means too bold.
- The client backed out: 'Back out' means to withdraw from an agreement.
- If Paul had left a bit sooner...: Use third conditional form.
- They gave him a slap on the wrist: Idiom for light punishment.
- ...responses be no shorter than 500 words: Use 'no' to negate comparative adjectives.
Results Interpretation
- 6+ correct: Likely C1 level
- 9+ correct: Probably C2 level
