Alaska Summit Analysis

I'm sure many of you are wondering what the implications of the Alaska summit between America and Russia will be. So before we look at the implications and before we analyze them, it would be good to understand the context of the discussion. Many wondered why this meeting took place in Alaska, and in fact, some misinterpreted it and believed it was an initiative on behalf of Russia because of Alaska's past and because of the 1867 sale. They had forgotten what the Russian Supreme Court had decided in 2022, which considered that this sale was not compatible with Russian law. So on the contrary, the meeting in Alaska was chosen by America and specifically by Donald Trump. It didn't happen anywhere since we spoke in Anchorage. Remember, it 's not the capital, but it was essentially done at a military base that is one of the most powerful. it is the backup base in case America receives a serious attack on Washington. Also, as you saw, I imagine from the images, it is a base that has the F22 Raptor and they are the ones that face any threat coming from Russia to the region. Don't forget that Russia and America are very close in this regard. So close we can't believe it. So it was important to make this first contact, let's say about this issue after years. So why don't we forget that they had to be found in Helsinki? Of course, the Russian president had seen the previous American president. However, specifically for Donald Trump, it had been years since they met. So the choice of location for the military base, which is one of the most powerful in America, as well as the fact that the B2 Spirits came and even flew right over the two leaders as they were walking together. You have to imagine the coordination because for small aircraft like the F22, which are very agile, you can imagine that for B2 bombers, it's another matter to pass over them and this can be done in seconds. So perfect coordination, perfect display of power. Don't forget that these are the bombers that were used against Iran. So the message was very clear that we are in America, we are on a very strong footing. The Russian President had the opportunity to see all the F22s that were at the base at that time. We also need to understand that initially it was a meeting to be held only with the leaders one-on-one. Finally, a meeting took place that I consider to be more important as a resilient three-on- three structure. That is, the leader, the advisor, and the assistant from both sides. And in fact, if you remember correctly, the protocol had foreseen an expanded meal. This choice was not made . They remained at the level of the 3+3 format. So the most resistant one didn't even have a meal. And when they finished, after being very late, I mean in terms of time, they finally held a conference, but it was only one- sided. In other words, the president of Russia spoke and then the president of America, even changing the protocol, and they did not accept questions afterwards. What we can say right now is that there is coordination between the American president and Ukraine, with European leaders and of course with NATO. And we already know that there will be a meeting in Washington with the Ukrainian president. What does this mean? It means that there is this general coordination. It means they got the messages from Russia. Well, we are not heading towards a ceasefire that many thought would be the end of the matter. Let's move further towards a peace agreement. Of course, the task is even more difficult. But it is supposed to be more stable because a truce, a ceasefire, can end very quickly with the slightest mistake or the slightest misinterpretation. So what some expected, that the old experienced diplomacy of Russia, because we had the big names of Russia who were at the meeting, ultimately did not play out the way some thought they would . They didn't take a bite out of America's new diplomacy, which lacks this experience. Because let's not forget that both the president of Russia and the foreign minister of Russia have been in these positions for more than 20 years, but things are de facto different. What matters is that what some said did not happen, namely that it would be a disaster, that there would be a problem with the concession of lands, that he would be able to talk about things that are not within his jurisdiction. No relation. It seems that the coordination that took place with the Europeans and with Ukraine before the meeting and now with the debriefing that things went in a direction that makes sense. Don't forget that for America and for Russia, Ukrainian is not a central problem. They have other issues between them, energy, strategic, military, development of the Arctic, the issue of natural gas, the issue of nuclear power. So we imagine they talked about a lot of things. I don't want to analyze them because at the moment we don't have confirmation. We only have rumors and leaks. However, it is certain that they did not talk about just one issue, and we will probably see later what they ended up with, what issues they ended up with, and which issues are not yet mature. In any case, we see that there is continuity. So we knew there was a risk that this meeting in Alaska would be the last. Ultimately, it is probably the first of a series of meetings with various factors. What matters, however, is that there was no catastrophic outcome. Things went smoother. This meeting wasn't that well prepared, but it was resilient enough to prevent mistakes from being made. So what we are seeing now is a continuation. Things are difficult. Things are difficult to interpret. We will also look at them together in a masterclass, so that we can clarify some details in detail.
