  • Overview of DJI Ronin SC: Compact travel gimbal suited for lighter setups (especially mirrorless cameras).
  • Ideal for creators who need portability and quick setup for shoots.

Assembly of the Ronin SC

  • Components:
    • Hand grip (also serves as battery).
    • Tripod with quarter-inch thread.
  • Assembling the Gimbal:
    • Attach hand grip to gimbal base.
    • Lock the gimbal by pushing it forward.
    • Connect camera via USB-C or multi to USB, depending on stabilization needs:
      • Multi to USB: retains in-body image stabilization for Sony cameras.
      • USB-C: disables in-body image stabilization.

Camera Plate Setup

  • Attach the camera to the plate using threaded screws.
  • Use spacer plate for lighter bodies with larger lenses:
    • Ensures stability and balance.
    • Attach screw for lens support when using longer lenses.

Balancing the Gimbal

  • Preparation:
    • Set up the camera completely (ND filters, mics, etc.) before balancing.
  • Balancing Steps:
    1. Unlock the tilt axis.
    2. Adjust camera position for balance (top-heavy/center).
    3. Tighten the tilt axis screw once balanced.
    4. Check balance by tipping the camera in various positions.
    5. Adjust roll axis similarly:
      • If it tips forward or backward, adjust accordingly.

Final Steps

  • Power on gimbal and connect to the Ronin app.
  • Auto-tuning:
    • Necessary when changing camera weights significantly.
    • Adjust motor parameters according to the app's recommendations.
    • Conduct balance test for confirmation.
