Sodor - The Modern Years

previously on Sodor the modern years and how are you feeling I don't know I can't help but feel my accident will happen again well P's going to be coming by in a couple of days you could ask him about it then perhaps that will set your mind at rest I hope so you said he'd be here on Friday he and duck take turns to come up from Tidmouth they bring up broken trucks and take repaired ones back hello Percy it's good to see you again I can say the same Adeline so you do remember me but didn't you tell it to a radio show most people think ghost stories are made up so I could hide a true story among them I wanted to make sure you were Remembered in some way Adeline thank you Percy you are a good friend thank you I hope this helps so do I well my Line's clear I'd better be going but I'll come by when I can I'm looking for forward to it [Music] Percy made good time with his trucks having just been repaired at The Works they were in a good mood so was Percy he was glad Adeline had been rescued and restored I must say Percy you did well to keep adline secret I mean I didn't even hear about it I'm sorry driver my buffers were tie so to speak no no I meant it as a compliment you kept the secret very well um thank you driver Percy replied the small engine fell silent lost in thought he didn't even respond to the occasional jbes and jokes from the [Music] trucks is it just me or was Percy very quiet yes it's not like him at all that caterpillar crack usually gets at least an OE from him I hope he's all right I'm afraid to say Percy was not all right fortunately the trucks were not the only ones who noticed a few hours later he was shunting at hellbridge when Thomas arrived Percy are you all right you've been quiet all afternoon it's a long story Thomas it's a long break until my next train Annie clabel we've got time to listen to Percy haven't we yes of course I suppose it's all right then it has all been Declassified after all Declassified you sound like that James Bond guy my driver talks about it feels a bit like that Percy replied he explained what had happened with Adeline and how the ministry of Defense had set up operations how he'd taken uranium or from the old Lead Mine up to cen's gate for years without a word to anyone then he finished by explaining adeline's accident and the circumstances surrounding it so I told him about it a few hours ago it brought some of adeline's Memories Back to ah so that's what all those special Goods trains of yours were about I thought there was something going on I'm sorry Thomas I didn't feel comfortable not telling you but well I understand it wasn't your choice it's okay Percy thanks Thomas I guess that sabotage was why I had to keep that operation secret I just wondered if Adeline could have been rescued sooner if I'd said something you mean to the mod yes perhaps I could have convince them to rescue adline years ago you did what you could if it helps I'm sure scarlo reneas and all the others were glad to hear the full story Adeline too I must admit though I never thought my mine incident would lead to all that you mean you were glad to know it too yes you could put it like that thank you Thomas that does help with that Percy left to collect his next train he felt much better now adeline's St story and Percy's involvement in it soon spread across the island a few evenings after his conversation with Thomas Percy backed down into the sheds good evening Percy evening Lily I've been thinking about this friend of yours Adeline both she and I were lost and found again as was pizza that was the ministry of Defense too come to think of it are you wondering if there are any others oh I doubt there are any more on Sodor Ruth would have found them by now I mean she goes everywhere true but we could ask her to keep an eye out you know a sort of uh search engine well perhaps we could abandon our trains to good looking ourselves please be serious pery this isn't that TV show with special specials I wouldn't do that if I were you what be serious go looking you don't know what fake in with Fallen engine I was only joking I suppose you found a scrap them all how would you and B find them anyway you two know to shun your iron works and do pickup runs you don't think we know where our scrap comes from let me tell you something if you must a long time ago there was a blue engine who was always eager to help one night the station Master asked him to pick up a coach left behind in an Old Ship of course replied the eager engine and he headed off now there was a dark and stormy night blown a real gay it was by the time the blue engine reached the shed he couldn't return in that weather so enus crw bunker down for the night later that night that blue engine bed to a noise coming from under the shed he opened his eyes and saw long fingers reaching for him through the floorboards turned out there was a monster under the shed terrified the engine raced out to the storm the monster chasing behind [Music] him then what happened don't know that's where the story ends no one saw that engine alive again but if he' not gone poking about he'd still be around can't really blame him for that he was ordered there by the station masterer don't worry about it too much Thomas it's just a silly story you can believe what you like Toby but I can tell you the remains got smelted down at our Iron Works anyway I must be off you all have a good night now more horrible Behavior honestly I don't know why Miss Hat allows these two to keep running on our rails I think they've got a track R screamers just like Mavis more like trackage wrongs if you ask me anyway I wouldn't worry about it too much best to get some sleep sleep you know we'll be busy tomorrow the other engines agreed and soon fell asleep but some of them found their sleep troubled a couple of hours later James arrived with a nighttime Goods train unfortunately he was running late in his haste he accidentally banged the trucks help there's a horrible monster in my shade excuse me I'm a what oh James it's just you sorry must have been a bad dream it's okay Percy sometimes good imaginations think bad things I should think so this is the last thing I need I'm already late enough with that James departed and the far car engines went back to sleep a few hours later Thomas awoke with a fright what he'd heard a strange noise it wasn't another train this time only trucks and coaches sat in the sightings asleep and unmoving Thomas couldn't help worrying something must have been making those noises AR's story came back to him the remains had been smelted at the Ironworks so it wasn't just a story something must have happened to that poor blue engine but monsters didn't exist did they try as he might Thomas could not get back to sleep good morning Thomas what what Percy did you hear any other strange noises last night no not after James stopped by oh I think I'd better be off don't want to be late with that Thomas quickly departed now he felt silly for staying awake all [Music] night the blue tank engine was soon heading down the line a string of trucks behind him despite his fatigue he was still thinking about last night what's this about strange noises Thomas asked his driver Thomas explained what had happened last night it was probably just the shed settling Thomas nothing to worry about my house does it too oh Thomas replied now that he thought about it he had heard the sheds make similar sounds before but he hadn't been worrying about AR's story those other times he felt a little silly and hoped there wouldn't be any other engines in the ey however as he steamed in a conversation drifted through the air yes of course having a bad dream is one thing but calling me a horrible monster really didn't you say the same thing about Juke yesterday what no I said he'd made a horrible decision giving up his brown Livery now he just Blends in with scarloey and all the others don't you remember I blended in with Gordon when you first arrived isn't that right Thomas huh blending in oh yes you did ask for blue when you came out of the tunnel that's right I'd never pull that sort of stunt and you know how I am about my paint did Alan no wait Alfred he had something to do with it no he' already disgraced himself by then the other 875 no yeah 8754 what was her number again 87 546 yes she could have replaced me you wanted to show the fat hat director sorry what' he miss then thought that was the case yes did you sleep all right last night Thomas you seem a little out of it well not really is it to do with that monster Percy was talking about last night yes it was a it was this story arry told us Thomas began and he recounted what had happened last night I thought you knew better than to listen to them Thomas you know they're troublemakers but he said the remains were brought to their Iron Works that means it actually happened it means that something happened yes AR could have been exaggerating I suppose so I don't know why the fat controller doesn't pull Arian B into line they're owned by the Iron Works Miss Hat doesn't have authority over them as I recall she's already spoken to the Iron Works manager about their behavior well she'll have to do that again again indeed anyway you'd better head over to the sheds have a drink and a rest that should help thanks Henry Henry that story of Aries does sound familiar minus the monster of course it sounds familiar to me too I think I heard it from Ruth Ruth James would you happen to know where Ruth's working today she's up at Barrow asked me to collect this ballast for her I've got a fr good had he got there the ballast Hoppers were quickly shunted onto Henry's train and he departed he considered the situation poor Thomas had been quite tired thanks to AR's prank it was worse than the Ironworks twins usual carry-on too perhaps something had prompted it perhaps not regardless that sort of behavior was well out of line the engines would need facts if they were to do anything about it even if Miss Hat couldn't Henry soon reached Barrow and stopped near where Ruth was [Music] working morning Ruth morning Henry you brought my ballast I see thank you you're welcome have you got a moment I think so what's broken oh it's it's not maintenance Henry said he explained about AR's story you're right it does sound familiar something that happened at the Iron Works no those two insist on looking after their own maintenance I'm not surprised that story I think it was something that happened to Benson Benson but wasn't he the pilot up here he wouldn't have gone um exploring if I recall correctly it was in the 1930s after you know after a short sight of decision by the board left us short on engines do you remember what actually happened it was something to do with an old shed and coaches can't really remember the details it was over 70 years ago oh well thank you anyway Henry replied he headed for the sheds [Music] I couldn't help overhearing your we conversation just now you seem a little disappointed Thomas was rather spooked last night I thought hearing the real story might help you're a kind engine Henry didn't care if many people notice it thank you it would also mean AR and BT can't scare anyone else with that tail there's that too you may be able to ask Benson have you banged your Smoke Box Donald he left when Caden took over up here in 1964 when you and Douglas were still painted black I he was sent back to British real for the we whale then by theen scrapyard got plucked through there by a preservation lot how do you know that oh douy and I listened out for any news of engines being preserved even after we'd found safety here I see would you happen to know how to get in contact with him I'm afraid not it's just news forway magazines mostly to be honest I didn't know if he was actually restored Sheffield might be able to help you he's in contact with his friends and his old Heritage link he is thank you Donald I'm du to stop at wellsworth on my way back he's helping out down there isn't he I until Miss Hat arranges another engine Edward and B are glad for the help I imagine they would be thank you happy to help you Henry I'll see you around later that day Henry was approaching wellsworth with a passenger train he was feeling hopeful Benson may have survived and might be able to shed light on what happened it was something at least but his hope faded as he spotted Jeff approaching in the other direction Jeff Sheffield what had a bit of a mishap at L suery Sheffield replied that was all he had time to [Music] say hello Edward what happened with Sheffield at low suery he was a little distracted I'm afraid the trucks got the better of him that doesn't sound like him he was worried about his old Heritage line his friends now are in trouble oh I hope things work out for them ironically that's what I wanted to ask him about his old Heritage line yes do you know how he keeps in touch with them I'm afraid not is something the matter Henry explained about AR's story and what Donald had told him poor Thomas no wonder he couldn't sleep there was no need for that nastiness you can say that again anyway how long will Sheffield be at the works a few days I think it was just a minor accident but on the way up here he asked Miss Hat about having a gizel fitted Oh Henry replied he left worried without Sheffield's Connections in the Heritage Railway Community he wouldn't be able to find out if Benson had been restored or what had happened Henry was still worrying when he reached the big station as as he pulled in he spotted Emily hat watching on the platform Excuse Me Miss Hat have you got a moment of course what's up Henry Thomas and py didn't have a good night Henry began he explained the situation by the time he'd finished the fat controller was frowning I'll have to have a word with the Ironworks manager again but I don't think they'll do much Miss out AR and Bert didn't learn their lesson after the incident with stepy a few decades ago they will if I withraw their trackage rights I've got an idea ma'am Henry replied and he outlined what he had in mind I agree Henry you're sure it'll help if we could find out what really happened yes ma'am very well I'll make it so a couple of days later Henry was approaching Elbridge Miss Hat had given him some good news to tell Thomas at their usual connection but Henry's good mood faded as he approached the station Annie and clarabel were waiting on the anch line platform but the engine pulling them was the last one Henry wanted to see Thomas's injector playing up now let's get this over with hello to you too could I please ask for you to pass a message on to Thomas the pens what is it could you please ask him to bring the far turned down tomorrow how we run our Branch line is our business Henry Lily we both know he was spooked the other night that sort of stress isn't good for an engine's Health poor Thomas is still worrying about it yes it wouldn't surprise me if that causes injector failure I thought to say myself what do you mean by bringing this up again Henry I thought he'd like to hear the truth of it to help set his mind at rest I see I'll pass the message on thank you Lily don't mention [Music] it Lily you will pass that on won't you of course I will I I what you knew me better than that we know how you feel about Henry too this isn't about that both Henry and I want to help Thomas so you two can work together then well if you put it like that and he did put it like that and what we've heard Henry doesn't like AR and BT either so that's something else you to agree on very well I take your point Lily did pass Henry's message on so early the next morning Thomas set out with the farquad turn this was a daily run of trucks down to the main Harbor whoever took it would drop them off turn around then return with some others his trip went well and he soon reached the harbor good morning Henry you too what's the matter Thomas listening to you you think we' done something wrong I hope this isn't why you asked me down here Henry I wasn't expecting it to be a turn for the worse not at all aric it's about the story you told the other night we'd like to know what really happened what really happened yes we' not that boiler sludge about monsters well I can't remember all the details you had no problem with details the other night well that was just making stuff up wasn't it Harry and Albert are you telling people I'm dead hello Thomas you remember Benson don't you I think so you were up at Barrow weren't you that's right until that little diesel took over I didn't get up that often back in those days didn't you have the number 13 didn't think our numbers went that high back then I asked for it what I was looking lucky but it's meant to be well I know I know well I was car this back in those days and yet Misfortune never caught up with me mostly anyway I'm here he'll been all Ed until this Sheffield sharp is repaired I see I understand you two Put The Frighteners an old Thomas here a few nights ago some nonsense about this monster under the shed we should be off there's no rush we've got something to discuss Harry told me that your remains were scrapped at their iron works oh really well that's news to me you need to get your hearing check Thomas I said that remains never said they were e oh very funny whose remains were they then who said it was an engine AR we didn't did you no but some engines were scra back in those days Mr H the one around back then wasn't too happy about it indeed it caused problems a couple of years later you were desperate for engines not just engines Henry with that whole Great Depression thing going on the railway was salvaging both trucks and un cultures too Benson began and he thought back it had been a rainy Saturday evening in 1936 most of the days trains had been and gone Benson was having a well-earned rest at least until the station Master walked over Benson I just had a phone call from Mr Hat he'd like you to collect some coaches collect them they're usually brought here on trains aren't they these are old ones left behind in the shed we've only just found out about them from R of those former Railways are they that's right the line's no longer in use we've had it checked and you should be able to make it wouldn't R be a bad choice for this she's smaller than I am he's also busier than you are today you know weekend are the best time for maintenance so where is this Old Line exactly comes off the main line at cen's gate cut through the Balo I understand the shed's on a short SPO just before the tunnel so that's not too far then Vincent soon had Emily's coaches sorted and he set off as he headed along the rain grew heavy wind lashed at him and thunder rumbled let's hurry driver the sooner we get these cultes the sooner I can get back to my nice warm shed they found the shed where the station Master had said some old coaches sat inside it they had not moved in years those are the cultes we need to collect are they even safe to move uh Don't force yourself we'll trck second Benson's crew did so then returned to his cab they're a bit stiff but they should be safe to move uh right ho Benson replied and he buffered up to the coaches although his crew had released the handbrakes the coaches didn't move Benson strained forward come on come on come on Steam shot from Benson's funnel blasted the roof of the shed a gust of wind blew through driver The Shed is collapsing panicking Benson yanked forwards [Music] looks like we got out just in time you can say that again Benson's driver climbed down and inspected the coaches looks like the unbre wasn't as off as I thought soon the linkage is broken with that Benson's driver climbed back into the cab and they set off the old coaches groaned and squeaked as Benson shoved them along the line but they did come along soon Benson reached coven's gate did you hear something down there Benson sounded like some sort of crush yes it might have been M those BL of coaches was stuck had to pull rather heavily between the Steam blasts and the wind well well what a shed may have collapsed was anyone injured no we were lucky got out just in time looks like it will be a jol for roof now glad to heal you and your crew weren't hurt take care F nice early the next morning Ruth headed down that old line with a Works crew Lucy the Ironworks engine followed shortly afterwards between the two of them they made short work of the collapsed shed Lucy made multiple trips back to the Ironworks hauling the remains of the shed it took most of the day to get that clear those cultures were rebuilt and r on our rails for a couple more decades so that's what really happened I take it the remain mentions with that old shed yes Lucy told us about it when she taught us how to look after the iron works as an example scrap can come from anywhere and anyone oh knock it off well it's don't startop with that inevitability sludge those coaches got have usually just been scrapped to they were a few decades later you see inevitable no not really I've seen a few of those coaches being used as sheds and hen houses along my Branch line I mean still in use one way or another I've seen them too on the main line but what will be scrapped Harry and Albert is that story of yours we was spreading word of what really happened you had no right to use it like that scaring Thomas and Percy what was the point perhaps that was going a bit too far we are get tests on your rails easy to take that for granted sometimes yeah my apologies Thomas I'll try to tone it down please pass this on to Percy and the others uh all right apology accepted we'd better head off should have left a few minutes ago Arie said with that he and Bert left to collect their trucks a few minutes later the Ironworks twins had collected their trucks and departed you're feeling better now Thomas much better thank you for coming and sorting this all out happy to help gives me a chance to run on the Brendon Branch too speaking of those trucks aren't going to pull themselves so see you later I thank you for arranging it too Henry of course we can't have Ari and Bert getting away with this sort of thing indeed can't see the point of it trying to scare us like that perhaps they're just lonely the only two engines at the Iron Works can't they just say hello like other engines Lucy wasn't like that true but they're diesels they'd have probably heard all that revolutionary nonsense back in the day you have a point there anyway i' best be off thanks again Henry with that Thomas headed off for a drink Henry watched him go lost in thought now that they had defused Aran BT's story perhaps the Ironworks twins would turn it down Henry doubted it though they'd been like that for decades words soon spread over the next few days the engines kept a close eye on the Ironworks twins but they didn't try anything aside from their usual taunting the rest of Benson's visit was uneventful and Sheffield soon returned from the works with him back Benson returned home Miss Hat had arranged another engine to come and help on the brendam line Benson didn't mind while it had been good to visit he preferred the quiet a pace of his Heritage line at least he'd been able to clear up that misunderstanding [Music] I [Music]
