Elden Ring Difficulty and Accessibility

people are mad at Alana because she made a video talking about Elden Ring's difficulty I'm going to watch this and see what's what's being said and uh we'll we'll get into the uh the controversy of this here we go so listen up Miyazaki Elden Rings DLC is too hard I have like a couple of like kind of very different branching takes to make in this video I am going to talk about accessibility accessibility is really important and how common of a conversation accessibility is where from games are concerned and why I do think it would be great if uh disabled players could play Elden ring even though it is already currently their most accessible game there's a lot of room for improvement but we're also going to talk about I feel like you could play Elden ring if you're disabled I'm going to be honest like you just have to play the right build you play play my build play my build you can play it you beat the whole game there are a bunch of negative reviews on Steam for eldering because shadow of the earth tree is considered too hard I never thought we would get to a landscape where people will admit that they found a fromsoft game too hard like even if people do I never thought well this has happened with every single time it has it it's happened every time and they've already nerfed the DLC this is another component a lot of people might forget they nerfed the DLC they changed the way the shadow tree fragments worked and they increased the cap that they give you so it already happened that they would ADM they yeah now it's worth noting that the presence of this has been a little bit exaggerated a lot of the negative reviews on Steam are also people complaining about the performance problems which are and that's a separate story that I've spoken about before that people did not want to hear they didn't increase the cap they did actually increase the cap go back and read the patch notes again which is that yeah fromsoft really gets a pass for a lot of things sometimes yeah like the reviews were all 10 out of 10 even though most of these people are playing on PC and there are PC performance problems with these games those are totally valid um and thankfully have been patched so though has the difficulty there are like two sides of this right okay there's a thing when people talk about from stof games that I always find really interesting people will say but it's part of the appeal that like you're fighting something really hard and then you finally overcome it that's part of the appeal of the games no no no no no no while there are things that fromsoft games do incredibly well like I am obsessed with their boss designs and their animation like for all the things we we love about their bosses are so impressive in terms of art Direction and animation they don't even need to be like oh my God they're just so good at that the sense of Discovery is unparalleled the uniqueness of the world is near unparalleled like there are a lot of things that from soft games do really well but saying part of the appeal is beating the it's not part of the appeal it's the entire thank you thank God design of the game it's the whole yes thank God please yes can I please stop hearing about people that hit one button while moving on the right around the boss for like 10 seconds about how this is all about difficulty please [ __ ] stop if you put these people that [ __ ] jerk themselves off about how good they are at Elden ring or one of these from software games in a competitive PVP game they would get rolled over in seconds they would get destroyed it's not about being good at the game that's not the point if you want to be really good at a game go play a game against other people game it is the core ethos the core not something that's programmed to let you win game design of any from soft game is that you are supposed to approach a boss be willing to Die the first several times as you assess their move set you figure out the puzzle that is beating this boss you've retained information about their move sets about what kills you about how you can avoid it and you roll into him and then after a certain amount of death be totally expected right if you beat an Elden ring B in less than like three deaths in my opinion that's an RNG fluke and not you playing the game well except whenever it's me and it's actually because I have a broken build big part of the game is learning how that stuff works that's the point you go in there you gather that daa and then you finally beat them that is the point of these games the whole point is for them to be extremely challenging I do think that people complaining about the shadow of Ury DLC should get good by which I mean just pay attention to the things the game gives you that make it way easier that's not to say you're not allowed to complain okay we are also really weird I'm already tanging inside my tangent we are really weird about acting like from some games can't be criticized they are immune to criticism like you are allowed to I think that you can have a conversation about difficulty in something without necessarily like the problem is that you can never approach a conversation about difficulty in a video game in good faith on the internet because the majority of people that want to partake in that conversation are only doing so in order to basically look for reassurance or approval for what they've already done like they're looking for somebody to tell them wow you're really good at the game or they're looking for a point where they can brag about oh I'm so good at this yeah they're trying to flex right so like nobody at any point is ever really thinking about is this a interesting metric of difficulty is this a good Vector of challenge or is it just something that's needlessly hard for no reason and it's like why is something hard because why something is hard matters more than if it's hard or not in my opinion there's a lot of bosses like for example the Final Fantasy 16 bosses like Titan and Bahamut they're really not that hard to do but they're amazing bosses they're great they're like the Pinnacle of the game but that's not because they're challenging it's because they're fun so I think that you can create Challenge and you can also create fun at the same time but they're not necessarily tied to each other one to one but you can't have these conversations on the internet because people have such a big ego about it and I think that's what the biggest issue is people have such a really really massive ego about these games and they don't want to relinquish that complain about finding it too hard or feeling like a certain ball season balanced or feeling like a hit box is like you can complain about those things and be valid stop yeah like hitboxes in certain games are bad animations in certain games are bad but the problem is that hitboxes like bad hitboxes and bad animations make a game harder but they make the game harder in a way that's bad so what ends up happening is that you have people that are unable to distinguish between the two things so like from their perspective they hear oh this makes the game harder then it's good I beat this then it then it's fine being able to overcome bad design does not make it good design and that's a big problem that a lot of people have with understanding game difficulty like any criticism of a fromsoft game makes you a fake gamer first tension completed I apologize back to the video course correcting P dropped for the DLC meaning that this to me would indicate that um fromsoft lean over a little kind of agrees with the criticisms which is pretty nuts say that he wanted shadow of the UR tree to be the hardest thing they ever made and it seems like that worked very well people are finding it extremely difficult even people who have been longtime fromsoft fan that was the intention I mean it would have been crazy to let you just like finish Elden ring and then just continue as though you were still playing Elden ring like they did have to up the difficulty for the DLC to even justify its own existence in my opinion but basically attack and damage agation curve scaling of the Shadow realm blessings have been revised the attack and damage negation has been increased with the first half of the maximum amount of blessing enhancements and the second half will now be more Gra the attack and damage negation granted by the final level of blessing enhancements has been slightly increased so again I take and that does make a huge difference by the way like if you go and you watch somebody playing through the DLC right now and you look at how much damage they're taking like let's say they just came into the DLC and they have like four or six fragments and then you go back to the first day streams it is a massive [ __ ] difference it's huge so yes they did do it this to mean that they like kind of agree and they were like oh we maybe did make this too hot okay I'll B interesting but there are things about this that a lot oh my God I have so many opinions this video is going to turn out so messy first shout of the UR tree tells you what you need to do to get good and I think really it just requires patience you may be I do think this is true um with the bosses in the DLC there are games like I think lies of P made a lot of mistakes with this and I think there are other games that also have made mistakes with this that they are difficult because the animations are not fully complete or they are bad like I remember I played wo long and I think this was also the case where like the animations are bad and they make the game harder because they're just bad they're hard to read Elden ring like and the DLC does not have that problem Maybe there's like one or two annoying animations but other than that all the animations are just hard they're not bad they're just hard familiar with scatter tree fragments I'll keep this quick in case you literally are familiar but basically this is effectively a means of an accessibility feature that exists inside of shadow of the earth tree because it is optional and I love that they've done this so I don't think it's an accessibility feature I think that if I mean you want to call this an accessibility feature like having a weapon is or like having uh Vigor is it's very clear that the game is designed for you to have collected all of these it it's it's quite obvious like this is this is the way it is and so like leveling up yeah I mean this is the way what I'm saying is like it's not like getting these fragments is like accessibility like the logic right is like you hear accessibility feature and you're thinking oh you're disabled it's like dis these are made for disabled people no this is the projection system of the game scatter Tre fragment is a new upgrade gr material in Elden ring debuting in the shadow of a tree DLC scatter tree fragments are optional consumables that can be used to enhance simultaneously offensive and defensive capabilities any sights of Grace acting like a permanent boost to your DLC damage dealt and damage negation basically that's right you go find these things they will make in the game if you are having trouble with a certain boss you literally just have to go find these things they are made solely for the DLC they only work in the DLC they do not work in the base game they are there specifically for players who are having trouble with any bosses that are already there which is totally fine by I dude I I I wish that they worked in the whole game like cuz I you know what it reminded me of it reminded me of remember in ic whenever you'd have the 30% buff and you would go in there and you're like finally now I can go big dick and do like Max [ __ ] damage but then you go back outside of it and you do throw the trial the Crusader or something and like your damage sucks again you feel bad like I felt the same way about this the shadow tree fragments like I would leave the DLC i' like [ __ ] man now I'm only hitting for ,000 and not 3,000 or 4,000 you're allow to have trouble you're allowed to find it hard but they have been put in the game to give you that option I love that they make this stuff optional that it's like yes you have to go through effort to be able to do this and in theory need to look up a walk through Final locations of them but I love that it it's like a thing that is available to all players who are having trouble leave the boss coolest thing about Elden ring in general for again where accessibility is concerned when you play from stof games concern is that you could just leave at any time go find these the DLC will become easier for you that is they they put it in there for you and I just feel like maybe a lot of people have missed it which I guess is like one thing that I would have liked more is I wish that like let's say there's like 50 of them right there's like 50 of them in the world uh correct me if I'm wrong I think it's 50 I wish there was like 55 or 57 so you don't have to collect every single one and you can miss a few and still cap out I I would have preferred that and I think that's the way that a lot of other time yeah it's common complaint yeah sure like the golden seeds exactly yeah like the seeds sure of also the design of alen ring right is like f stuff games don't ere explain anything to you but yeah I'm finding this stuff very funny yeah these games are hard we should be allowed to criticize things we don't like about them they're not immune to criticism I do feel like shadow of the a tree literally has told you the thing that you can do to make it easier but at the same time them patching it would imply to me that they were also like maybe a bit much which is funny I'm not telling you to get good I'm telling you to use all of the features available to you to cater your experience which is the coolest thing about accessibility in general it is time to talk about the incredibly cool vure Pro XR glasses if you haven't heard me talk about them before it's so cool and there are so many ways to play there's a neck band for remote gaming on Playstation Xbox PC there's a mobile accessory to make sure you can play a switch on the go without it needing to be docked you can plug it into your mobile phone and yet it's all just right from your face the vure pro XR glasses have a 135 in 120 HZ full HD private screen with a peak brightness of 4,000 Mi using Ultra Clarity technology they have edgo Edge Clarity making even small text readable on the gloss's display plus anti- clear anti- ghost and anti motion sickness and they are the only XR glasses with myopia adjustments on the latest Sony micro OLED panel with ultra Clarity the new upgraded the lenses so there is no more image leakage meaning your privacy will be fully protected than God bro like cuz some of these other ones that people have or it's like these weird ass [ __ ] glasses like those goggles it looks like you're about to go snorkeling right in like a pool in public basically you get to make personaliz make you have the sharpest image so not only are these like incredibly cool and fun and great for planes on top of that there is some fantastic built-in stereo audio and a bunch of really helpful modes and extra uses like Co-op meaning you and your best friend can be sitting next to each other on a flight both wearing these glasses both playing Mario Kart with giant screens that nobody else can see the glasses are also super lightweight it's a really comfortable really slim design wonder how much you gra your vure pro do pack my code Alana to get 10% off everything but the new glasses go to Pro v.com Alana and use code Alana now back to the video I have never understood why players would ever argue against more customization options so this is the second half of this video where I'm going to talk specifically about accessibility and even okay just a lot of people really not understand people have been mad at her on Twitter about this so I'm actually really curious to see what's going on I'm very curious the conversation about accessibility and Elden ring it has been brought up various times across various mediums uh by various people that Elden ring is not or from soft games in general are not particularly accessible to disabled players and people are asking for accessibility um are not actually asking play Magic for an easy mode that isn't the intent here's the thing I want to spell out where accessibility is people who are disabled I felt myself doing it I'm going to do it is another tangent there are also multiple kinds of disabilities especially where gaming is concerned there are long-term disabilities there are situational disabilities there are temporary disabilities it counts as a disability where a video game like elen is concerned if you have a kid you have a 2-year-old you're trying to play Elden ring you can't pause that is a situational disability that you have where the game not having the option for you to be able to pause for example is a hindrance for your particular disability a situational disability you may need to pause to stop your kid from putting a fork into a socket a power outlet in Australia we call power outlets power points but when I moved to the US I so this is why people were so mad they're mad about this why would would they be mad about this she's completely right I think the reason why people are mad about this is because she used the word disability and people are thinking one-dimensionally about the word disability like being in a wheelchair but if you think about disability as something that interferes with your ability to play the game then it makes sense what she's saying is completely logically true and just just as I suspected the Twitter clip is completely misinterpreting this do you think she's the type of check to park in a handicap Zone because she thinks having kids is a disability it is unbelievable to me and you remember I've said this many times that if you want to figure out what is the dumbest most surface level thing that the person with the lowest IQ on the face of the [ __ ] planet can think of that's the most popular tweet that's what the average discussion is going to be about there it is that is the quote they used that's right what an unbelievable completely [ __ ] misinterpretation this is insane and it's crazy how popular this [ __ ] is people are so [ __ ] stupid but having kids isn't a disability words matter disability is any condition of the body or mind that makes it more difficult for the person with the condition to do a certain activity you are getting caught up about vocabulary let's be honest why does the vocabulary matter at all why are you thinking about the vocabulary there's an idea that's clearly trying to be conveyed you are aggressively trying to misunderstand the idea think that it's something else when everybody knows that's clearly not what she's saying she's not conveying it though she's absolutely conveying it any reasonable person would listen to this and know exactly what she's saying you've always said intent matters yes this is and do you remember what I said about how like posts and people like anytime that people like stupid people can feel smart that's what you're going to see a lot of people doing that's where you get these commenters from they're stupid people who think that they can draw this like really small semantic difference about the connotation of a word and then get mad about that and completely not even have a conversation about what's actually being discussed it's completely irrelevant it's it doesn't mean anything she even explained it yes she even explained it listen situational disability you may need to pause to stop your kid from putting a fork into a socket a power outlet ability that you have where the game not having the option for you to be able to pause for example is a hindrance for your particular disability a situational disabil you may need to pause to stop your kid from yeah it's it's even a specific word it's a specific word there's a mod for that people are being intentionally stupid to make people mad yes they are intentionally understand they are intentionally misunderstanding what's being said in order to assert themselves as being smart on Twitter it is the most annoying [ __ ] thing this is the reason why kids shouldn't have social media because 14-year-olds do this just hating for no yes it's just it's so stupid putting a fork into a a socket a power outlet in Australia we call power outlets power points but when I moved to the US I got bullied for that because people thought that I was referring to like a PowerPoint slideshow so trying to get that one out of my vocab and there are temporary disabilities you break your wrist you sprain your wrist you temporarily have trouble playing video games you would need something to help you press certain buttons If you're playing ELD ring the third one long-term people who have long disabilities that I have tendonitis in both of my wrists from playing too many video games unironically that is a thing tapping too much that means any rapid button mashing in any game I'm going to have a lot of trouble with unless so what you have to do I I'll go ahead and I'll solve this problem right now so there's a program that you can get uh it's called Uh a lot of M mice have this and so here's a uh a macro that I've created myself uh these different macros do different things and uh right here here uh this is the uh Macro for farming runes uh this is a macro for doing Bahamut uh here's also another Macro for farming uh what is this I actually forgot which one this is oh right that's for farming uh what do you call it uh slimes and this is another refined Macro for that too so you just have macros uh ABC gentlemen always be cheating always be cheating farmed 65 million runes last night there are accessibility options to prevent that it's part of what I worked on on gold of War Ragnarok that's part of why I made an accessibility award show to like highlight this particular thing is like I have a lot of trouble with fighting games I have a lot of trouble with any game that's really button mashy if there are too many button prompts I'm going to be in pain and have to like ice my wrist afterwards and not really be able to play it and here's the thing about accessibility and El ring where any of those things are concerned I think there's a misunderstanding that people think disabled Gamers whoever else want an easy mode this is not the case it's that the appeal of Elden ring being really [ __ ] I think that's not true I think that what people are actually concerned about is that the implementation of an accessibility mode creates an easy mode for everybody else who is not using the accessibility mode that's really I think what the conversation is it's not that it adds an easy mode it's that it allows people to use that that makes the game easier so what I I'm I'm not I'm not debating it I'm just saying that's that's what people are saying fing hard is also appealing to people with disabilities they too want to play the extremely hard game that is very hard for them to beat they're not asking you to give them an easy mode and make it easy for them to get through they're asking for a version of the game that can be played with their particular disabilities so they can still enjoy really hard games as well the complications with this conversation arise I think with Elden ring specifically like a yeah so many people who just dismiss it as like shut up who cares about you you're disabled which you know [ __ ] off second people just well let's just be real Elden ring should have a pause and let's be even more real Elden ring does have a pause how do you do the pause in Elden ring again I might forget do you have to open up item crafting is that what is that what pauses the game it's the help button yeah the help button map help yeah so why not just allow people to pause the game because you can already do that so if you just let people pause the game like I I can't imagine there being a legitimate argument that being able to pause a single player game is a bad thing that's crazy that's nuts there is oh yeah no and people can make an argument for why the moon is made out of cheese sure they they you can do that but it's just that it's really stupid assuming they're asking for easy mode and that's not the case it's not an easy it's not even less difficulty it's more options but third is the unique challenge with fromo games of completing them being such a point of Pride they intentionally make these games difficult like I already said this is an established ethos of these games there's a lot of games that are difficult like what do we why do we always do this like let me scroll down let's find this game is [ __ ] annoying this game's difficult this game's difficult um let's see where's some more of them this game's difficult there's some hard bosses in here there's hard bosses in this one that [ __ ] in the the [ __ ] in the uh that that maam oh my God she was so annoying like what is this this game's difficult like it's not like from software is the only people Doom doing this on nightmare mode is very difficult Dragon Dogma hard mode is difficult this is game's a joke let's be honest um there are plenty of games that are difficult what are we talking about Hades 2 is difficult what is this idea that the only hard games are Dark Souls games what are we talking about like it's not even true they are intentionally very difficult Elden ring is the broadest the most open you can use some if you want if you want it to be hotter you don't have to you can approach it with as much or as little assistance as you want and you have still completed the game controversial a not but yes if you use summons you've still finished the game I don't care how you play it do whatever you want but it's also just that whole culture of beating a from soft game is such a point of Pride for people and how do you avoid it shouldn't be it's just a [ __ ] video game it was programmed to lose you can feel good about beating the game but don't ever make that like it's like there's this like really like kind of thin line right where it's like it's great for you to feel good about beating a game and that's nice but the moment that you take that feeling and you weaponize it against another person or you make you turn it into I'm better than you or I'm somehow above you because I did this and you didn't that's whenever it gets really weird yeah just don't make it your personality yeah exactly don't try to like protect it because again I think that if you really if you really drill down into why are people focused on invalidating the accomplishments of other people in these video games you will find that the core reason is actually because they're insecure about their own game they're insecure about their own skill like you never see Gino machino talking about how many runs are legitimate or not I don't hear a distortion talking about that either it's always the people that have beaten the game three times it's never the actual good players it's the like uh you know sevens out of 10 the sixes out of 10 you see what I'm saying it's never the real because the real good players know that like just because somebody beats the game with an easy mode it doesn't even make them 1% as good as somebody like Gino is not even 1% yeah mid players yeah exactly real pros don't bre yeah exactly don't do that avoid taking away that point of Pride that is oneto one with that design it is making you feel a sense of accomplishment for overcoming something very difficult it's a feeling humans love you get a sense of accomplishment you feel like you did something of value humans love that and Elden Rings like that in video games on crack like if I feel a sense of accomplish every time I get an achievement because I collected 50 whoa it's it is like triple when I beat a boss in a Croft game there are bosses in SEO where I beat them and I like threw my hands up in the air and scream I there are so few other games that have that effect and that's a feeling that I do think everybody should be able to have CAD to their own I don't even really have that effect most of the time I really don't feel that way I view it as a puzzle and I want to make this puzzle as easy as possible and I like solving problems and so I'm going to do these three things to make it work the right way and then I win that's the way it goes accessibility needs here's my pitch okay hear me out the internet here's my pitch for fixing the problems surrounding Elden ring or from stoft games in general being so um like just the discourse being so hardly contested like it's like I've been making fun of people this week for saying that if you played with someone you didn't finish the game that you cheated even though it's a mechanic that's right there it's literally intentionally there it would be like saying you didn't beat shadow of the OD tree because you use Shadow it's nonsense they're in the Miyazaki put them in the game it's cool that we can adopt them or not adopt them based on how we want to experience the thing or the unique challenges that we have cuz we're all [ __ ] different people right here's my pitch okay Gamers hear me I I haven't had this conversation with anyone so I don't know how many holes there are but this is my thought what if for every game that you finish but especially for frof games there were an ending title screen that you could screenshot and you could share very easily that details exactly how you finish the game are people going to reply to each no no this is the thing I don't think that they should have an easy mode because I think that having a shared struggle where you get to watch the way that 10 different streamers fight the same boss and you know they're going up against the same thing I think that there is a value to that there's a huge value to that because everybody has that shared experience whenever somebody says I beat this boss that means the same thing even though this person can do a completely different method of doing it than you did and misaki's goal is exactly this yes exactly and that's it's a shared experience so I don't want to see any special loading screen or anything like that because the truth is that I have never seen an actual high-end like player like an Elden ring player or any of these people that do speedruns say any of this ego [ __ ] none of them say that it's always mediocre people on Twitter that think that they're the best player in the game and it's the same thing as in wow like most of the time people that are complaining about Nerfs on bosses are never the top high-end guilds they're like the mid-tier guilds they're the guilds that you know they clear the raid two months after release they're the ones with the really big egos it's always the people in like the upper middle that are the ones that have the biggest ego that think they're at the top you're not at the top you're not even close you just don't even don't don't give that attention like there's no reason like there there's no reason to even deal with those people it's middle management syndrome yeah exactly easy mode is summons well there's a lot of ways you can make it easy not really beating Millenia with mimic tier and Magic build and beating her with the mid uh Barrel weapon are completely different experiences yeah no they definitely are but what I'm saying is that that experience you are experiencing the same boss just because you're you know it's like the four the four number right you can do 2 plus 2 or 5 minus one both of them get to the number four even though they're very different other who share that and be toxic about it yeah people are going to be like summm yeah people are going to be dicks but I feel like it would maybe prevent some of the extra accessibility specific gatekeeping like all all of these people who are vly against accessib ility options which is really again just in-game customization options no one's asking for less or more damage but like less button presses or or there's a large list of things that can make it easier for disabled players to play why would that be bad like a like I mean I feel like if you are the kind of person who Advocates against having a pause button in the Elden ring you have departed from the realm of reality you're gone you're done you're you're you're way way out there and you're not coming back at this point you're way out there you're gone there's no reason and and again there you never reason with unreasonable people that's a crazy thing to say that's stupid play a really hard game and still have it feel really hard but still be able to play it you know but what if you get a just a screen at the end with the credits that that shows exactly how you played it or what options you had on or off in my head this would alleviate a lot of that discourse people are saying like no accessibility what ever because I want to be able to play Elden ring the exact way that I want to be able to play it and I feel like those people I don't even know like I mean she's not really giving an examples like I mean I think it depends on like what the example is particularly because if there's like an accessibility feature that gives somebody a tool that just makes the entire game way easier then I think that at that point it is a conversation of like is this actually good for the game to have or not because I I would argue that like there are accessibility features that make sense but whenever accessibility features can be used as tools to just automate gameplay and make the game easier then it becomes an issue because if you really don't like that then you can download a mod there are a lot of mods that you can download in the game that you can just put that into the game and play the game that way instead so it's like there's like a mod where you turn into an a helicopter and you shoot nukes and you kill every boss in one hit you can do that so what's the problem like the farming macros for example yeah yeah you can always do that so I I I think that you don't really need to add a I I think that having those options is okay but you shouldn't make those options you shouldn't have those options in the game when they end up making the game easier for just everybody I think at a certain point it can be weird because it turns into like everybody is going to end up using this because it just is a massive Advantage it it does contrive the way the game is designed shootings way play if they get one of those temporary situational or short-term disabilities you break your wrist you're not going to have play Ring you have I think I'd need to see examples for this though in order to like know like whether I would think of it that way or not a kid suddenly you can't play Elden ring like I feel like they say it when they don't have disabilities but in 10 years when you do have some kind of disability I feel like you're going to retroactively kind of regret that you will like absolutely not don't change anything I finished tunic that game rules and is very hard and after I finished it I beat the final boss that you don't even have to well spoilers I she was so she was so hard she was so hard it took me days tunic has an accessibility option in it that you can use to it's basically god mode I think you can prevent all damage I beat the game without that and felt so accomplished and so proud of myself and I don't care that that mode is there or that option is there to help other people who still want to experience the game without that I think that's perfectly fine but I would have liked just a little something at the end even an achievement to give me the credit for doing the hottest fights on what is effectively the hottest iname possible difficulty because I didn't have the I think that they already have that right I mean you've got that with a lot of the achievements in games right like many games have this where it's like oh you you do something with some difficulty on and it works right or you get this special thing like Hades right or anything else so this is already in a lot of games like we already have this exibility options on you know what I mean that's my thought basically Elder ring is already the most accessible from soft game if you're complaining about Shadow the being too hard you don't have to play it you are definitely allowed to criticize them and I also think you should Explore More because you will find another build or another means to make things easier like I think you're being impatient is probably what's happening realistically this is for people who obviously don't have accessibility problems but what if so that we could actually allow disabled players to play these games which is a thing I care about you just the end of the game you just get a screen with all your stats I don't see like what what are you supposed to do right because like disabilities exist on like such a massive Spectrum right you have some people that are like quadriplegic and so they can only you know move things with like their tongue or something like that or like the facial movements right and then you have other people that like she's saying well they just have kids and so they have to pause the game sometimes I think that adding in certain things like God mode does definitely make the game feel weird for people that that already have it and I don't think I would really like to see a god mode added into the game but things that can automate decisions that a player has to make are generally probably better anyway so yeah I think it really depends on what the option is particularly because there's always a way that you can download a mod or something like that if you want to create that type of experience for yourself but I don't think that it's fair to change the entire experience for everybody that plays the game because some people play the game that are disabled that want the entire experience change because of that so it depends on like what the decision is and like what the change being made actually is because I think for example like adding an easy mode or something like that could definitely change the experience of everybody but adding something like color blind mode wouldn't or adding a pause button wouldn't and I think those are the types of improvements that these games should make because it's like at what point is it so if this is in Easy Mode how is it like cuz there's one shot macros for the bosses why can't you just use that like where is this actual problem coming from and are these people using the tools that exist in the game to solve that problem or not there's a valid reason to have a pause button no yeah no I think so why do you care if there there there's an easy mode how does it hurt you um I think it changes the way that people perceive the game and when the game isn't being played the same way by everybody it changes the way that people experience and view accom m in the game and it it removes the shared accomplishment that people have for beating a game in different ways so yeah that's the reason why uh there's a sense of community around that and whenever you add an easy mode into it then it damages that and I understand this is not a popular opinion to have this is not maybe like a uh this is not the right politically correct opinion to have but I think this is true how many times you died what options you did or did not have on so people can still brag and still show off CU again that is clearly a thing people like doing with these games I just feel like it would solve a lot of this conversation this it's really not about asking Miyazaki fromsoft to make the game easier where accessibility is concerned it's about allowing more people to play it and sometimes people just need different settings to be able to do that more yeah I mean like color blind settings or pause yeah customization to be able to do that does it make sense I feel yeah that's there's nothing wrong with that basically yeah I'm just so surprised that we're in a timeline where literally enough people are complaining about it like all of the games journalists gave it a 10 out of 10 but the Steam Reviews the gamers are the ones saying it's just too damn hard for any of those people who do not have accessibility specific issues you just got to explore more dude you can do it you can do it I think you're being impatient I think you can do it and to the accessibility conversation that comes up every single time fromsoft has a new game I would love to see them I just want to see like the accessibility conversation like what are the explicit problem s and what are the solutions that are being proposed to that problem and is there an existing game solution that creates that solution in itself that's what I'm curious about like what are these explicit disability issues that people have have more accessibility options I would not like to see them make the games easier or less challenging and it's a difficult balance to strike obviously but I don't I feel like I found kind of a solution let me know what you yeah tipping 20% at a down just give me a minute is I completely agree with her I think that everybody getting mad on Twitter about what she said about having kids being a situational disability is Peak redditor Behavior it is the I'm going to act like I'm confused and intentionally misunderstand a point that's not being made so I can assert myself as being smart on the internet so the other stupid people can see that I'm smart and we can all agree collect ly that we're all smart together what a stupid [ __ ] thing to say it was a completely reasonable thing she said those people are [ __ ] morons and it's amazing it is amazing that these people are able to reproduce man how does that even happen how do they even tie their shoes how do they drive a car do these people have driver's licenses isn't that scary these people some of them drive cars oh my God situational disability is a bad term though uh you can argue about it being a bad term or not but that's fine you can have whatever opinion you want but what I'm saying is that it's still not being used in the same way and if you are acting as if it is you are intentionally misunderstanding it uh Stupid be gets stupid yeah it sure does for some of people uh LFR is just as hard as Mythic to a different person I think that they should add in things that make the game easier to play but not easier to succeed in if that makes sense like I don't like the way that certain items you have to scroll through a menu in order to use certain items and if I could bind each of those items to a different spell or to a different button on my keyboard that would improve my experience as a player I would prefer that now why is that not an option I can't think of a reason why that's not an option it's the same as being able to pause or having a color blind mode or having a mode of above 60fps these are all very legitimate complaints and I think the problem is that accessibility complaints get all lumped in together where it's like some people want an easy mode where you one shot every boss and other people want a pause button and I think that there's an obvious [ __ ] distinction between these two things and it's again it's the intentional dishonesty it's the I'm going to deliberately misunderstand what's being said in order to uh make some point about how I'm good at video games use the pouch that's how you keybind up the four other buttons you can use the pouch but in order to use the pouch you have to hold down one button and then press a second button there is no option for you to just keybind to one specific button and use that deliberately so yeah that's annoying it it's annoying and it doesn't need to be like that but the problem is that the people that defend these games are such super fans of these games they're not even willing to accept even the slightest amount of criticism or complain about it like oh no two buttons yeah yeah it's it's annoying wouldn't it be better if it was one button yeah would be it's the same as like a really good example of this is like Final Fantasy 14 like the community in that game also has the same attitude the game developers can do no wrong everything in the game is perfect like genin's the same way uh to a lesser extent and I think that these people end up hurting the game they end up making the game worse because they're reductive to improvements to the game they don't want to see the game improved because improving the game implies the game wasn't good enough so again it's just how would you fix it how would I fix it very very simple I would make it to where you can keybind individual buttons to the pouch I would make it to where you could pause the game I would make it to where you could play the game at above 60 FPS yeah that's crazy right wow wow wow that's nuts yeah it's not that hard guys yeah these are slam dunk obvious decisions that just make the game better there's nothing wrong with this at all so yeah let's see I'll link you guys the video but uh yeah what a what a crazy reach that people made man oh my God would I agree but no pause is a design Choice okay and I respect their ability that like for an example it's pretty clear developers mostly focusing on Console experience they don't really focus on PC yeah but that doesn't mean that I'm wrong for thinking that if you're selling the game on PC then you should expect people to want the PC version of the game to function in a good way like this is not a crazy expectation if you're buying a game that's being made for a platform you should expect for the game to function well on that platform this is like what are we even talking about here like this is this is insane and so if if the decision to not have a pause button is a development if it is a design choice to not have a pause button then I think they should remove the ability to pause the game from opening the help button in the map they should remove all other functionality that effectively pauses the game because then that's an exploit so like you have this weird Middle Ground where you can pause the game but there's not a pause button that's stupid it's stupid it's it's dumb like what are we talking about it's ridiculous what is this it's it's it's such a this is the thing it's so common sense seiro has a pause and it's their hardest game I didn't even know that I forgot honestly do you see parallels to any of the casualization of wow I do whenever you look at it more broadly than adding a pause button absolutely and that's what I'm talking about I'm talking about adding in very simple very obvious things let's see here just want easy mode should with your argument about pause already being in it it's the same for making an easy mode you think adding a pause button is the same thing you're a [ __ ] you're getting banned I don't even want to read your messages yeah honestly it's just what a what a stupid thing to say but yeah like I typed out a whole paragraph just to get Perma baned like again there are always people that like to if you intentionally misunderstand or you deliberately misinterpret something in order order to make an argument against me you will be permanently banned it's [ __ ] annoying it is like Peak redditor behavior I'm not going to deal with it absolutely not how is a pause button in easy mode it's not and that's what I was saying right that's instant Perma so yeah it's just it's a waste of time but anyway um yeah I think that people like it's it's so hard to have a conversation about video game difficulty because everybody that wants to talk about it doesn't actually want to talk about it they just want to talk about their own ego and how easy it was for them to beat it that's what it's always been about it's nothing else there's no like oh let's have an honest conversation or any anything like that it's always their own [ __ ] ego trying to prove that they're smart
