foreign ER and I'm from Chicago I'm here today looking for an investment of 500 000 in exchange for 10 of my company spike ball spikeball is poised to be the next Great American sport like all great sports bike ball is very easy to learn but really really difficult to master it can be a casual fun backyard game or it can be hardcore competition another great thing is spikeball is ultra portable so all you need is this ball that net in one of these backpacks and you can take it absolutely anywhere so standing to my right here in the black jerseys is Chico spike ball they have been the number one ranked team in the country for over 12 months these guys are just absolutely dominating they're eliminating they're gonna play a couple points against Tyrell United now you're going to see in a second they're going to serve the ball basically just by bouncing it off the net towards Tyro now just like in volleyball Cairo has up to three hits between each other before they have to spike it back on the net now they of course want to spike it so Chico can't get to it if you can't get it on the net the other team gets a point first team to 21 wins once the ball is in play there are no sides all four players can run absolutely anywhere they want gentlemen I'm going to ask the guys to come out here and play a couple points [Music] awesome thank you guys who invented this game you no brought it back to life so it was around back in 1989 and one of my good friends bought it at a toy store and they and my older brother played a bunch and absolutely loved it and about 10 years ago you know the light bulb kind of went off we went home and kind of did our homework found out that the product had been off the market for like 15 20 years who owns spike ball we do how did that happen their rights were completely expired so you can just reclaimed them uh the trademark yes there was never a patent has it ever been contested now that it's successful no and we actually did get a utility pad there's some guy that's going to be watching this going oh my goodness you mentioned obviously that it's a sport where can you take it how big can it be it can be huge so we've got a governing body called USA spike ball so we have tournaments all over the country how many tournaments are being played we'll have about 100 tournaments this year and you charge them it's a Loosely a freemium model we also sell membership and how did you where you sell his memberships tell us about that yes so if you can buy a quote baller membership on USA Spike ballerina are you all ballers the demographic what's the average age that 18 to 24 male is our sweet spot what does one cost uh 59.99 plus shipping can I go to a toy store and buy it some toy stores yes we're focusing more on sporting goods stores we've been around about six years the first five years pure e-commerce Chris how many units are you selling a year uh this year we've sold 29 000 units and how much did they cost to make a little over 14 a year so last year your total gross sales 1.4 million dollars and this year you expect it to be around three between three two and three five and you've got to be killing it then because it's all margin so what do you what are you netting at the bottom line so last year we netted I want to say about 170 180 Grand why so little retail's growing like crazy business is good but retail is really eating in so how much you paying yourself my salary uh 175. there you go okay good for you can I go back to one thing just the price sure can you get your costs down from fourteen dollars absolutely try that where do you think it could go to um my I'd love to get down to the ten dollar range Chris what are you going to use the money for uh working capital we're starting to get really really big orders from really big retailers how big from who for what the biggest we work with is Dick's Sporting Goods we've got POS for 10 000 units to ship have you done any tests with them to see how it sells through the store yeah our initial test was 100 stores you started your test how long ago uh two months ago did they take it to more stores each time we're in 250 now so wait in two months you've gone from 100 to 250 yes and just in that brown box I mean that was your can I see the box so probably word of mouth is getting out there let's call it a um uh not a toy business but it's a it's a sports amen sell it in toy stores because you have to protect your brand and as soon as it shows up there you're just would you sell it at Walmart if they asked you maybe okay so dude dude so GoPro huge fan we do extremely well at Walmart got it right all right this is the expertise I mean I would not shy away from that opportunity if you actually achieve your goals this year you'll do about 320 to 50 000 pre-tax you're asking me to pay 20 times your cash flow for a ball and a net ball on a net that's kind of like calling your baby ugly I mean I love this it's a little more you just called your baby ugly look I think the business is worth about seven times it's worth it two and a half million bucks that's what I think would you do a deal with a value like that on it no I think that's discounting it way too much see if you can I'm going to sit back and watch and see how enthusiastic another shark might be I think it's very clever thank you I think it's very interesting what you've done but not often do I say I can't see my way to the valuation but here is one of these where it's like I just I don't see it for that reason I'm out all right thank you Laura I'd say you've got a great opportunity to cost reduce this thing I wouldn't be too hung up on your 60 price point okay especially as you move into larger retailers one thing I'd love for me it's not something that I can personally get super passionate about it's just not right for me all right thank you [Music] look Chris I'm going to be brutally honest with you when you when you walked in I thought this was going to be stupid if you would have brought this to me and just describe this to me and said Mark would you invest we're going to turn this into three million in sales Dick's going to place an order for 10 000 units all within a few years I would have said step away from the bar and then if you would have said on top of that you think that's bad we're gonna have leagues absolutely I would have said I'll take what you're drinking what you did it right you're killing it thank you thank you but you know I can't see my way to a five million dollar evaluation right you can't I can't I can't I can't I can't I'm out oh ouch three sharks are out Chris only has two more chances to make a deal for his backyard game spike ball so Chris I'm impressed okay I'm impressed in your articulation of the business I want to achieve so far you've been very aggressive on the valuation of your very very passionate about being worth a lot and you've run into a lot of roadblocks already all the encouragement from Mark and then he goes out that's just ridiculous so here's the deal I'll loan you five hundred thousand dollars because this business can now support some debt I'll take the 10 Equity as a warrant for doing it all right um the terms on the debt are simple I'm going to charge you nine percent I'm going to work very hard for you to be successful because the 10 could be worth something if you achieve success and there's enough evidence here that you've got a bit of a viral thing going on which I find very interesting so what do you want to do um I thank you for that I'd like to see if Damon uh can we have a chat very very very smart guy um I have the same concern that most of the other sharks have the evaluation is not Spike wall it's balls with spikes so here's what I'm thinking your challenge is making goods and providing them to the store right I'll give you the 500 000 and my agenda will be to take that pain away which is starting to do licensing starting to do manufacturing and shipping to the stores that would be what I would be interested in for 25 of the whole company you'll be able to run the sports division you'll be able to run the online sales because that's creating your sports division got it value your business at 2 million yes um so thank you for that that's that's quite Rich um would you consider 500k at 15 percent [Music] this snowball that is rolling downhill and getting bigger and bigger we've got an army of amplifiers schools too that will help you so that's going to cost me a loan two hundred thousand dollars that's not passed on to you you're saying you have no flexibility your your crossroads right here where you have a very high valuation and you're getting a little greedy and um you know this is one of those moments that you can lose it all I'll go 22. call it even at 20. we're done [Music] awesome congrats buddy thanks guys next up is Dominique McLean bartee with an Innovative twist to a product beloved by women all over the world [Music] foreign hello my name is Dominique McLean bartee and my company is one soul I'm seeking five hundred thousand dollars for twenty percent equity of my company love shoes and one day I went to the mall and I bought a pair of shoes and I bought it in three different colors I went home and I went aha wouldn't it be easier to change the top on the shoe because the bottoms are all the same so I set out to create this idea and I did it's one soul and it's the original interchangeable shoe I'm gonna show you how it works because it's very simple you can quickly and easily go from one look to another just like that in seconds you made it where anybody can do it you can even change the style of the top you can have a casual one like this or you can even go to a dressy strappy or a slingback or even a clog I mean it's crazy how many different looks you can get in a single shoe and also this shoe helped me with another problem I had I traveled a lot and I would have a whole suitcase of just shoes so now I don't even pack shoes I wear my one cells pack a handful of tops I've saved space and luggage fees it's the perfect travel shoe also we have thousands of tops to choose from I mean the possibilities are endless and I like if Barbara would try this because our best feature is Comfort perfect timing my feet are killing me I love it because you don't have one soles on what's the retail selling price of a shoe the retail for the shoe and a solid top is 70 to 85 dollars and then the tops are separate of course and they range from 12 to 30. comfortable they're heaven and I keep them for the rest of the day how do they feel lovely feel good oh my God no doubt about it once people try it on they buy it Dominic interesting story um you have a value in this business of 2.5 million dollars but she has sales Kevin what are they I think my company's worth more than that actually I have of course it is but why don't you humor me I'm gonna surprise you ready yeah I've grossed over 20 million dollars in the last four years I'm in 2000 stores in over 30 countries I've been on several TV shopping channel networks and been very successful what are sales last year last year was low it was 3.5 I was six a year before I didn't make this in China no we make the molds in Italy for the shoes and then I make the tops actually in Palm Beach Florida can't you save money making it offshore that's why I want to get investor because I am not a good sourcer and I would like to have other designs for more complicated tops that I cannot possibly make in Palm Beach I mean and have a good margin but I'm not good at sourcing what's the status of the the home shopping business and are you on there currently I've been on QVC six times I've done no advertising marketing how have you been financing this business well I'm really a pharmacist I got I did this as a hobby in the back of my Pharmacy and I got so busy it blew up like the probably the second year I did it that I moved my Pharmacy into the shoe factory wow you're going to do what in sales this year I'm over 4 million so I'm not sure and I'm going overseas a lot this year so I just started ranching out still acting as a pharmacist yes sir I fill prescriptions in filled shoe orders too [Laughter] if you make any money on your sales I make 30 average profits last year were a million dollars over a million dollars yeah why do you need the money well Barbara should understand this I did a real estate investment like three years ago in Palm Beach and it tied up a lot of my Capital don't tell me about a house I bought a house in the water there and I'm now nobody's yeah what is the cost to make them and what do you sell them for and then how do you sell them different stores by different ways like the department store did like a travel kit I have a bag that has three shoes in one so it's like a package with the three shoes and how much does that cost to make that cost um 18 for for the three Tops on this pair of shoes in the bag and then how much do you sell to the store for 35 and how much does the store sell for 85.95 around there it's all patented nobody can copy this I have two utility patents and two design patents that are issued and that have more that are pending and then I'm trademarked and copyrighted in 98 countries what's their biggest account or the biggest company interested in your brand um well this company in Japan they want ten thousand pair like 30 000 tops of that that's like a half a million dollar order what about domestically JCPenney oh so wow I'm really struggling here because this is a real business I can't believe it sometimes yeah so it's about a lack of confidence of doing it on your own you're looking for a partner yeah I mean above my head I think why do you say you're in over your head because I'm a pharmacist I've never had a business class I've never had a shoe design class I mean why are you selling yourself short do you realize how a few businesses we've had come out here and get to your degree of sales and they're all over confident I'm always like I'm like a little turtle that goes and takes baby steps and I just want to win I want to make sure that I'm doing everything properly that's why I don't I don't take that big jump but I'm now I'm ready to go to the next level and just ramp it up Dominique if I were to put the half a million dollars up what would you use it well would we make sure I could fill these big orders that are fixing to come in they're going crazy in Switzerland over my shoes right now I mean I have people fighting over in Saudi Arabia I have two different distributors in Australia New Zealand gone crazy I mean it's just this year went International and it's just really overwhelming what a fascinating story would you sell the whole business I don't know if I'd want to do that all right I'll give you a hundred thousand for ten percent but get the other four guys in and we're in 50 50. and you get to 500 000. I'll give you a hundred thousand for ten percent but get the other four guys in and we're in 50 50. and you get to 500 000. I like this product I like the I like the so make an offer Harrington I mean I'm just I'm thinking that valuation of a half a million for half the company though I believe in the product but I don't need any Partners in this I'll give you the half a million for 35 percent Damon that's a generous offer [Music] Damon doesn't want any Partners no partners uh so okay fine I like you guys I'll send all your wives shoes from his partner she has controlling but I don't think I need anybody on this one Barbara are you in or are you out you know I like you but it's just going to take too much of my time so I'm out I'll leave an offer with you here just to get in the mix I'll give you 500 000 for 51 percent I'm not gonna do that think about it for a second why did you make a worse offer your offer is insulting to her no no it isn't hear me out you ready I'm going to give you 500 000 51 I'm going to hire a banker to sell this company the buyer is going to fire you after you're filthy rich I told you I'm not trusting Robert 250 a piece I was good with that but 250 a piece for 50 percent [Music] what are you gonna do [Music] David I accept your offer all right thank you Dominic great job congratulations I do have your size too foreign my deal is still the best I made the offer because I like to win and that is a win that is a win first into the tank is an Innovative way to get the most out of your workouts [Music] hello sharks my name is Patrick Whaley and I'm the founder CEO of Titan I'm here seeking five hundred thousand dollars for a five percent equity stake in my company yeah Titan is a patented form-fitting weighted compression here that is designed around the human anatomy our apparel uses gel wastes inserts that are the same density as your own muscle tissue and you can also heat it or freeze it so it's great for healing sore muscles and improving recovery types I'm here today to show you that there is a better way to train the only question left is which one of you Stars can keep up talk science to me sure we've had uh increase in lactic acid threshold we've had increase in Max VO2 levels we've actually had athletes gain two inches on a Max verb I don't give a damn about what the athletes do you're not talking science you're just trying to give me anecdotal information talk science to you okay the concept is being able to wear a suit that is designed around the human anatomy the gel is the same density as your own muscle tissue so when you wear it it becomes a part of you which becomes an internal load versus an external load it's like training on Earth competing on the moon so you're telling us with a padded bra I can jump 13 higher now the concept is R8 pounds feels like a 20 pound weight fast so you're saying it's just like the old ankle weights that we used to wear we were kids exactly it makes you feel lighter right ankle weights and wrist weight so if you want to give me a valuation of what is it 10 million 10 million dollars it's about what it's going to be worth Patrick can I see one here thank you how much does it weigh it actually weighs eight pounds we also have whitish shorts that are about five pounds there's weighted weights that you can put in in clothing that those have been around for years right so you're saying this is a little better design what I'm saying is that wearing a weight vest applies all the wind on your shoulders when I was younger I was always a skinny kid in school yeah and I used to overstuff my book bag with books and do shorter Strokes on the way to class trying to bulk up my shoulders the problem that I realize is that applying all the way under shoulders actually ruins your posture and causes you to slouch what are your sales how much money are you making so last month we almost broke a million dollars in Revenue what wow last month last month alone yeah million dollars okay the sales are impressive what's your background are you a doctor I'm a mechanical engineer from Georgia Tech I specialize in biomechanics and I actually developed this while I was in school and where are you selling this stuff mainly online retailers uh we're now talking with multiple brick and mortar stores we just sold to the largest medical Distribution Company in the United States so last year how much did you do we did about six hundred thousand Revenue what did you net off of that last year was uh an interesting story in 2012 I actually closed a deal with a venture capitalist they decided that it was in the best interest of the company for us to actually bring on an executive chair we burnt through the entire investment within six months how much was the investment it was about a million dollars what this guy blew through the money what did he do wrong they were charges that I wouldn't have I wouldn't have made there were decisions that I probably wouldn't have made however as of last week I actually bought them out okay where did you get the capital actually from sales we're about 30 net profit do you have any debt we have no debt do you own 100 of the equity now between me and my father we own 100 of the echo what will the sales be this year Patrick we're looking at breaking 10 million this year wow uh possibly 16 depending on inventory I mean right now we're sold out you're gonna break 10 million this year easily yeah who's your primary customer the military and Crossfit and they're willing to pay how much for a shirt right now we sell a three-part system for 250 it comes as a cover shirt a pocket shirt and a full set of gel how much do you sell it to the stores for 137 or so why do you think that you're gonna hockey stick to 10 million we have about 1.4 million dollars of purchase orders that I can't fulfill and the reason is because I've taken all the profit to then buy out my investors and try to try to get a clean slime I'm struggling with your 10 million dollar valuation in it's all based on you hitting a stratospheric growth rate we've already hit it we've had well you haven't hit it yet and so I have to pay for next year's sales as if they've already occurred today look Patrick my BS meter is going through the roof because I say you know what I want all my guys on the Mavericks to jump 13 higher okay great I bring you to the Mavericks except my doctor Patrick says he can increase our vertical leaps of all of our players by 13 that's the truth yeah the research studies are proven we've had studies from Texas Tech Penn State multiple other universities uh we're actually doing research into using weight to increase Max verter to increase your maximum new that's like that's anything but what we've done is we've made it better and again you gave me an anecdotal example sorry about that right why not get somebody to say this is why we're a better solution we are getting that research from multiple universities going nuts right because why not just have one University study it in depth and come back with an answer but when you say this University this but it's also a marketing effort as well we're now exposing more universities more colleges I'm out Patrick okay let me take another crack at you're straddling the line Mark has real athletes professional athletes professional doctors either you're in that market with a tremendous amount of credibility that you can stand up to claims like that or you say this is purposely geared towards the weekend athlete like me my challenge is you're very unclear evasion answers I mean we've had all the research validated with Under Armor this week okay even when you say that you're making generalizations you don't point the specifics you make me uncomfortable if I'm not comfortable with the person I meant obviously I'm not a sports guy get it as a Sumer if I were a guy and I wasn't buff I'd wear that into the gym and I'd feel better about myself but it's not hitting me as something that I want to invest in and so for that reason okay forget all the research stuff what you have and what you should have focused on I believe is sales you have sales to me it's apparel maybe extreme apparel and it has the merits and the risks of the apparel industry so I'll make you an offer I'll give you five hundred thousand dollars for 15 percent foreign three million dollars I think it's intriguing what's happening here you know and your style is um kind of fit into the Arrogant ass Factor I'm okay with that I'm not trying to make friends you want a friend by a dog I'm trying to make money okay I can be your investor maybe we'll be friends who knows but you are a bit of a [Laughter] oh my God I don't care look you need honest Partners I'm one of those all right well I mean I'm sincerely sorry that you feel that way I don't feel sorry but there is an offer there 500 000 for 15 um now I don't hear any other offers I'm going to put an offer on the table first of all I'm having the same challenge that the other sharks are having I don't know if I should trust you or not well I am an eagle scout I don't know if that helps well I don't know before I make the offer what do you want to utilize the money for inventory we are completely sold out we get inventory in in 24 hours okay that's a good problem so I'm willing to give you the 500k for 20 that's higher than Kevin yes because I'm willing to to handle the inventory and handle the production [Music] all right Patrick you've got two offers time to make a decision [Music] three sharks are out Patrick has two offers on the table five hundred thousand dollars for a 15 stake from Kevin and 500 000 for a 20 stake from Damon um you can counter you really would sell these things for people yeah some guy's gonna just put this thing on try to do too much drop dead of a heart attack in any weight training yeah but no but he's making claims and he's trying to live up to the claim don't let the floor get away from you you've got two offers here Mark's trying to talk don't lose the opportunity either counter or take the deal I'm fine with a five million evaluation if we can try to get there if we can get there we can make this thing a stratospheric success we're already growing Patrick stop selling I mean Damon look you're in the you're in the apparel industry you've been there you've had people tell you it couldn't be done I need you to believe in me I know I can get this done I love to have you on board you'd love to have me on board for half a million dollars or my 500 000 is my buy-in to help you produce and manufacture and run everything he said no damn it he made your accounting I I don't want to say no to anybody I'm 10 it's not enough equity it's too small I'm gonna stick at 15 it's reasonable it's a 3.3 mil valuation would you mind doing it at 750 000. 500 000 is a lot of cash all right so I'm gonna have to stick it to 20. Patrick what are you going to do um Damon [Music] I'd love to take your offer all right wow oh nice I thought maybe you will come here not to make a deal I wanted to make a deal actually I picked you I wanted to do it being so difficult I wasn't trying to be difficult I mean we have we have a lot of proof and validation it's because they screwed you over the first time right yeah I got you we're just gonna have to validate this stuff so hold on we're gonna prove these guys wrong congratulations Kevin you want to miss wonderful I know that was certain people all right thank you all the hardest part about going into the Shark Tank is you have a split second to make a decision [Music] it was extremely ferocious and at the end of the day I made a deal with Damon it was probably the best deal I've ever done so you felt comfortable partnering with him does he have a million in sales or not he was Romancing The Truth Listen maybe he's a jerk but now he's my jerk
