let's pray father thank you for the people who are gathered here today it's a special day and for some that's an exciting day and for some it's a painful day but father we thank you for mothers we thank you for how you anoint them to do what they need to do father we thank you for life that they give we thank you Father God I thank you for strengthening every mother in the house I hope that she receives something special through what you have to say today God and every child child in the house everybody in here has a mother God strengthen us all through this word in Jesus name amen amen so look at your neighbor real quick I want you to say this real good and loud you can even point right at them if you want to you got your neighbor you got your finger ready look at him and say you got it from your mama now look at the person on the other side go ahead and point your finger right at him and say uh-huh you got it from your mama you got it from your mama yes you did yes you did now for some of us that's good news you're like hey this is wonderful I come from a line of preaching women so I got it from my mama my Grandmama my great grandmother was the first person in her small North Carolina sharecropping Village to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit I come from women I got it from my mama my Grandmama and my great Grandmama and so did you I got incredible blessings generational blessings that came down through that line and so when someone says you got it from your mama that makes me feel good I look just like Shirley Graham my mother I sound like her sometimes she come out I'm like who's preaching I feel like she's up here with me CU I got it from my mama and I'm so blessed by that but there's some other stuff I got from my mama my Grandmama my great Grandmama that God is working on not everything was perfect we get some things you know we get some some issues some difficulties some of you may have felt like an insult I don't say I got anything from her I'm in church to honor God but Mother's Day not a thing for me I have a word for you too this morning the word covers all of us amen so let's go to the scripture Matthew chapter 1 Matthew chapter 1 and I'm reading from the King James version right now I'm going to begin at verse one the chapters of a little long so I'm going to skip through some verses but ride with me this is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah oop I'm sorry I'm reading from the NIV switch that this is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the Son of David the son of Abraham verse two Abraham was the father of Isaac Isaac the father of Jacob Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers Judah the father of Perez and Zara I may be pronouncing that wrong if I just upset you I promise I know the word just because I can't pronounce it I know the word the word of God Perez and Zarah whose mother was Tamar Perez was the father of hezron hezron was the father of ram skip down to verse 5 salmon the father of Boaz whose mother was Rahab Boaz the father of OED whose mother was Ruth OED the father of Jesse and Jesse the father of King David David was the father of Solomon whose mother had been uriah's wife skip down to verse 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah may the Lord add a blessing to the reading of his word Matthew's genealogy is so important because it's the only one it's the first one and it's also the only one that includes the women in Jesus's genealogy and this is very important because not every single woman that was in the family somewhere is included these five women are listed specifically and I believe there's something important about that because we are identifying the genealogy of Jesus is to recognize that Jesus was biologically related to Mary and to the other women in his line that's how they became part of the genealogy Jesus was fully Divine but he was also fully human and we focus often on the Divine sometimes we forget his fully Human Experience in ways that make it more difficult for us to be conformed to the image of his son as we live this life but Jesus was fully human his blood was pure we know that the way that God designed our bodies magnificently a fetus going to be carried a baby is carried in the womb his blood is not mixing with the mothers the systems are separated so we know his blood was pure he didn't have the blood type of Joseph he was a Heavenly child so his blood was pure and holy but his body had to come from somewhere we know that Jesus had a human body like ours because Jesus cried and Jesus felt pain and most importantly his body was capable of dying death is the result of the fall and so that is one of the evidences of sin in the flesh that our bodies die and so Jesus came wrapped in a completely human body that reflected the fall that reflected the pattern of sinfulness that exists in our body and so he had to have inherited that from Mary because the father God could not have made sinful flesh he doesn't have the capacity to create sin so we know that Jesus is body was biologically human this is super important and so that means that he got some genetic material for Mary his mama but also his Grandmama and his great Grandmama and his great great great great grandma and his great great great Grandmama why because in this miracle of a body beginning in Genesis 3 Jesus is released into the human genealogy as a seed in Genesis 3:15 it says that even though um Eve and Adam had messed up and they were getting kicked out of the garden on the way out God made a promise that something would happen that some would come a messiah a son who would change things who would redeem us and it says that he was the seed of a woman and that that seed would bruise the Serpent's head and the serpent would bruise the heel of the woman a seed of a woman is an egg and here's something really unique about eggs now don't worry we're not going back to middle school health class I know you barely made it through that cringe the first time so I promise not to get too detailed but women are born born with eggs and what's interesting unlike men whose seed is constantly being produced new and it lives it and dies and constantly have more women are born carrying every egg they will ever have and so when I was born and I was in my Mom's arm there was a little egg and my daughter and my son were in that egg and so that means that when my mom was born and she was in her mother's arm I was in my mother and my daughter was in me inside my mother in her mother's arms except when my grandmother was in her arms her mother's arms my great-grandmother that means as she laid in her mother's arms my mother was in my grandmother with me inside of her with my daughter inside of me and so this is one of the most powerful things about women we are carrying generations and so when Jesus was placed in a seat inside a woman in Genesis in the garden that genetic material that would become his flesh had to be carried down from gener generation to generation to generation until he came out of Mary's womb a word dressed in flesh and so the Bible took time to let us know which women in his lineage had been the path the Journey of that genetic material and so it's fair to say that there are some things that Jesus got from his mama he got it from his M and his grandmother and his great great great great great grandma and his great great great great great great great great grandma because he was fully Divine yet fully human so why these five women were chosen what did Jesus get from each of his mamas well we're going to start with the first Mama Tamar Tamar's story is written in Genesis chapter 38 read it later because the clock is ticking but it's the second service so red is for the blood of Jesus Amen so Tamar story is in Genesis chapter 38 and if you don't know Tamar's story let me share it and can I just tell you I love the Holy Ghost because I didn't know that we would have the esteemed guests that are here this morning from the human trafficking or organization here in Nashville and so when God gave me this word I was like God for Mother's Day and he was like yes and I listen to G let me tell you when he speaks to me I do what he tell me to do and so I'm so honored to share this word especially because of our esteemed guest this morning and so Tamar had a very difficult experience she is the daughter of Judah Judah is the leader of the tribe of Judah we all know Judah means praise we love Judah but Judah didn't do everything he needed to do he had three sons and one of them married a woman named Tamar and then that son died before she had any children and so as had been the case throughout history and cultures all over the globe women have been valued based on something that was related to what their body could produce and because she did not have a child that left her vulnerable no one to take care of her and so they had a tradition that if that happened in the levite tribe then the brother of that husband who died would marry that sister that woman and raise up a child for that brother's bloodline and so she was married to the next brother but that brother was evil the Bible called him evil in the modern translation of Anita is raggedy he was raggedy he was a raggedy man and he would not give her a child he was raggedy he wouldn't give her a child because he didn't want that child to supersede him and the line of inheritance and so he blocked her from having a child and God punished him for that evil and killed him vengeance is mind saith the Lord you keep your heart clean God will take care of it and so he killed him and then the third Son Well Judah stressed cuz he's like two sons have died while married to this woman and I don't know if I want my third son to marry her as if it was her fault that his son's but okay and so I don't want my third son so now she's engaged to the third son and the third son is being kept away from her so the engagement goes is has no ending like some of y'all some of y'all in some situationships he talking about yeah we going to be I'm you going to be my wife but there ain't no date ain't never been no date okay so that's not what I'm here to do today but I'm just saying he kept the thing running without actually finishing the situation because he was up to something see you're just like oh well he wants to be ready for this or we're waiting for this and she said and he was making excuses Judah was making excuses too but somebody was up to something and that's why the Wedding Date wasn't getting set that's a word for somebody in here I don't know but go ahead and get yourself free and so he kept he kept he kept because you know I hold on now I'm I'm joking a little bit but I feel the Holy Ghost listen to me is this the man you want to be the father not just your husband but do you want this man to be the father of your children is this the man that you want your CH okay no it's not then go home go walk away call me when that testimony comes in it's going to take them a while to confess it cuz they're embarrassed but we're not ashamed of what God does in our lives don't be ashamed of the Gospel that means don't be ashamed of the good news and when the good news comes into my life through Jesus Christ and delivers me from something I can't be ashamed of what he did then I'm ashamed of the good news and I'm not ashamed of the Gospel so don't be ashamed tell her your story soon okay so then I'm sorry so Tamar is now not getting married to this third son and so she knows that she's going to be put out and so now she is forced to use the only thing that seems to be of value in the space that she is and that is her body and so she plays the Harlot to Judah because she know that while Judah is acting right he's extra and he sleeps with her and then she gets pregnant with twins and then he has to admit what he did to her to everyone and then she's blessed and she's in the line of Jesus Tamar's name means Justice and Jesus came to bring Justice he got that from Tamar if you would look at Matthew 23:23 in the ESV this is Jesus speaking woe to you scribes and Pharisees Hypocrites for you tithe meant and Dill and cumin and have neglected the weightier matters of the law Justice and mercy and faithfulness those you ought to have done without neglecting others Justice he got it from his mama there was another moment when Jesus sought Justice there was a woman who was accused of adultery somebody came and threw him her down in front of him and said we caught this woman in adultery what should we do Moses's law says that she can be stoned what do you say now why is she here where's the man that was in it and all that and he looks down and he looks at them and this is the thing I know y'all know he said he without sin cast the first stone but then Jesus drops down and starts writing in the dirt all my life I've been in church I've heard many suggestions about what Jesus may have written but here's what I believe in the Book of John Jesus is quoted saying a new commandment I give unto you that you love one another as I have loved you he wasn't worried about Moses's law he was worried about God's law and the only other time in Scripture that Jes that God uses his finger was to write the Ten Commandments in the first place and so in order to give a new commandment the Finger of God had to be used to write it so I believe that when he got down in the dirt he did it for the justice of a woman and he wrote love one another as I have loved you and because they knew they were all Sinners they had to walk away because love condemn them justice justice he knew his mama Ray he knew his mama Tamar maybe he remembered in that moment her justice and he didn't allow an injustice to be done to this woman and he took the Finger of God and said moses' law was Moses but I'm God God's law I believe I believe that's what he was writing glory to God well then he got something from his next mother Rahab rahab's story is told in Joshua chapters 2-6 but most of us have heard the story they said that Tamar played the Harlot but Rahab was a harlot the Bible said Rahab the Harlot so we know that that was a profession that she's involved with and she's living in the wall of a city that is in the promised land so the Israelites are coming to take that City and they sent spies into that City and she received the spies she hid the spies and so we know that because she did good by God's people she was saved from that City her and her whole house and they went out because Rahab did the right thing but we need to look at how that impacted who Jesus was rahab's name means Fierce and expansive Fierce and expansive we like a fierce woman I do anyway Rahab was so Fierce that it impacted how she lived the rest of her life see we often stop with Rahab on her vocation but Rahab was a good person she had a good heart she saw human beings the right way she understood actually how family should work we don't know what got her in this position but it says her whole house was saved so she had her family with her she brought them with her she didn't leave them behind she understood something about Family Ties she understood something about love and relationship and people and you know how I know because Rahab is boaz's mother some of y'all today years old just found out that Boaz was Rahab son Rahab the Harlot raised the Boaz you've been believing God for Rahab the Harlot raised a good man RAB the Harlot raised the man that we all model our husbands after how did she do that except out of who she was not out of what happened to her so it doesn't matter what happened to you it doesn't have to change who you are because trauma doesn't make you it shapes you but trauma doesn't make you God Made You Now yes he made the clay that you are and maybe trauma shaped it a little bit off but God can reshape it but you still remain the clay that he made you in the first place trauma shapes you but it did not make you you are God's child and nothing can change that ever and the good material that Rahab was made of raised a man like Boaz my God and generations later she had a son a great great great great great great grandson named Jesus who was fierce he got it from his mama yes he did he was fierce I want to give you an example of Jesus being Fierce Matthew 21:12 and Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who who sold and bought in the temple and he overturned the tables of money changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons he said to them it is written my house shall be called a House of Prayer but you make it a den of robbers he was fierce and I think he got it from his mama and then he had another Mama his next mama was Ruth Ruth had been turned out to the elements of this world as well she was a widow we know that if a woman didn't have children or she didn't have a husband or she didn't have a husband nor children here's Ruth in a double situation she chooses to stay with her mother-in-law when she could have gone and tried to find another husband on her own but she stays with her mother-in-law who is also a widow and her Ruth's name means friendship compassionate friend Ruth was gift Ed to be a friend and so she stayed with Naomi who had become her friend and they stayed together and she meets the son of a harlot Boaz and they get married I believe that Jesus came to understand some things about friendship from his mama Ruth because in John 1515 he says no longer do I call you servants for the servant does not know what his master is doing but he he flips the system I've called you friends Jesus was about friendship he flattened he kind of flattened some of that Authority hierarchy he said no no you don't have to be my serum and that's the beauty of the Triune God it's mindblowing because there's a father in there but then there's a friend and there's the indwelling the Holy Spirit every aspect of his character and Jesus brought that friendship aspect of our God he understood it deeply and I think he may have gotten it from his mom and then Matthew lists another mother B Sheba another trauma Survivor every one of these women trauma survivors you ever wonder why Jesus was so compassionate towards women why did he write Justice For That Woman accused of adult Jesus comes from a lineage of women who were trauma survivors and there was B Sheba B Sheba was out taking her bath on her roof which was the proper place for her to be doing it David the king was where he wasn't supposed to be doing what he wasn't supposed to be doing which was watching her she wasn't flirting she wasn't wearing a short skirt she didn't have her toes out like I do on today cuz you know what if my toe is going to make you fall it is not not my toe's fault you need to get yourself [Applause] together men of God boaz's if I can't wear a flipflop somewhere to the beach without you having a collapse I need you to turn your plate over and ask God to do something for you I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm not a man hater I love it I have a husband and a son it's I I'm just saying it's so Mother's Day is like women's day too part two you know so it's kind of like women's day but anyway and so bash sheba's out there and so David sees her David sends for her we know that David sleeps with her that none of this is voluntary for her you don't get called in by a king and be like yeah I don't think so you going to die so she is assaulted essentially she's kidnapped and assaulted she gets pregnant David wants to cover it up he sends her husband to the front lines of War has him killed and then marries her and there Bas Sheba is left to live in the house with the man who kidnapped her overpowered her and killed her husband but BBA under that pressure also raised an incredible man she is the mother of Solomon the wisest man to ever live what happened to you doesn't make you who you are Hallelujah you can raise good children you can adopt and Foster good children you can mentor in the community and help young girls and young men grow up strong nothing that has happened in your past will stop you from being the good thing that God made you and you can make a difference in your family line in your community line because you can disrupt generational curses and patterns let me tell you the difference curses Are Spiritual first of all once we know Jesus curses are broken so you don't need to spend your life breaking curses the blood of Jesus breaks a curse that's a spiritual situation but what many of you are struggling with longterm is generational patterns generational memory come on and when I have remembered something a certain way when I learned something a certain way then I I frame my reality with those lessons and so I can then pass those lessons onto my children those thought processes hey don't trust this hey don't trust them hey you're not safe because gener that trauma becomes my truth and once the trauma becomes my truth I pass on truth to my children that's what we do but the truth is the wrong truth yes it happened but it's not the whole world and it becomes difficult and so some of us received lessons that were generational memories so good and that's different than a curse and we have to examine ourselves and listen to our thinking go to therapy go to the support group learn about how your heart and your emotional patterns have been shaped in a way that's shaping your thinking so that God can heal your heart and you can touch your heart and work together to write a new story that you will tell your children that's important well Dr Anita do I not just not tell them the truth no I absolutely want you to tell you the truth one in four children is sexually abused in this country one in four and when you're that one it feels like one out of one one out 100 that's it but three out of four are not and so I need to then say okay for that one out of four and I know what the one is I'm going to make sure that I protect protect my daughter adequately but I'm also going to give her a truth that three out of four are not so that I don't tell her that the whole thing is Terror things do happen but even if it happens we can recover I also want to give her that lesson see we pass on our fears and our protections and but we don't pass on narratives of recovery we don't pass on narratives of resilience and so I told my daughter be careful with this be careful with that but if something happens if someone does something that is wrong to you you come to me talk about it we will recover you will be okay it won't kill you I'm here for you we're going to be careful but if it slips in if your heel gets bruis we going to crush his head together so you come and see me because I don't have to live in fear [Applause] H do you hear what I'm saying that's generational memory but I can write a different story to be remembered by a new generation ah glor God glory glory so B Sheba raised wisdom wow the Proverbs that we quote Solomon she raised wisdom despite her situation she may have never known all that Solomon would do but he was wise he wrote so many things he spoke of the wisdom of trees the Bible says Ah Glory B Sheba her name meant daughter of the oath a promise that had been made in Genesis in Eden in the garden when God made the promise that he would send the Messiah Jesus came here knowing he was the promise and I think he might have got it from his mama yeah he knew it we see Jesus tell I believe it's in the book of Luke that we see Jesus teaching in the temple as a child Mary has to come and get him and he's like why are you bothering me I'm here to do my father's business Jesus knew he was the promise he knew it he knew who he was in intimately up front he was the promise he came from a woman who was the daughter of that promise and he became the son that was that promise and I think this might be why the first person that Jesus revealed himself to with his own words was a woman by a well looked down on for her sexual history she had some husbands and then the one she was with wasn't her husband remember her and she says and they're having a conversation about Rel Religion she was a Samaritan woman and she said yeah our our people and your people have worshiped the same God before but they had some different views now and she said we're waiting for a messiah and he looked at her and said I'm him he revealed a promise of him to that woman he didn't that's the first time he says that now he asks other people who do you say I am and they say and he says you said it but that's the time he said it to that woman I wonder if he looked at her and saw one of his mama and reveal to her that the generational blessing lives I am the promise you're waiting for I am the Messiah he knew it and he got it from his mama one more Mama Mary Mary the mother of Jesus her name means obstinate and stubborn I bet that will surprise some of you Mary the one in the pictures who's like with Jesus who's always like who in the what with this I don't understand it but anyway Mary was name was stubborn and obstinate now that makes sense to me because you got to be pretty tough for an angel to show up a messenger of God and mess up your program cuz you are engaged you getting ready to get married you done follow the rules you a you doing your thing it's all getting ready to work out and here comes this messenger from God to tell me I what I pregnant do you know what that can do to me Mary said be it unto me yes be it unto me I can't say that I would have said yes right away like I would have been like can we talk about like the possible repercussions of this you know Joseph might didn't break up with me who's going to take care of this baby if I'm dead who's going to raise him I mean seriously and then my mom is going to be so mad oh my God I cannot go to my mother I mean there would have been some conversation now I'd have been afraid to say no but I also would have been like not rushing to the yes it would have been like will you do this not no not no not no if I could sleep on it and I can't do that with you here if you could because I not no but wow but Mary said yes be it unto me she had to be a tough cookie and then she shows it because when Jesus is in that Temple teaching when he shouldn't be as a kid she came and snatched him out now we're in the South so I think some of you have an idea how he got taken out of that Temple but I the face of what are you doing here I've been looking for you and you ain't where you supposed to be I don't ran all over this mall I done ran all over this place and you and I told you if we get separated go to the Chick-fil-A but I'm out here do you know what I'm Shing go go to the go to the Torah stand if we get separated in this market go to the falafal place something but why I and what are you doing here I am going to whoop you when we get home and he had to nerve woman I'm about my father's business and she said your father's business you about to get it from your mama your mama's business she took him up out that Temple and we don't see him again for a long time but the Bible say a long time I don't know if he was recovering from bruises I don't know what was happening but we don't see Jesus for like 20 years okay Mary didn't play and in the book of Hebrews Paul wrotes that Jesus learned obedience by the things that he suffered I believe Mary was the source of that suffering somebody who's like where was the suffering [Applause] I'm just saying these are real people something had to happen and so then Jesus comes back outside at 33 or 30 years old he comes back outside 20 years later and he melts off again at a wedding in front of people where you're dressed up and have a nice time they run out of wine Mary comes walking up to them hey we're out of wine and he looks at her woman what does that have to do with me it's not yet my time and she [Laughter] said do what he tells you to do and that's it we don't hear from Mary no more and what did Jesus do he did what she said he gave them instructions go get the pots go get the water cuz he had a flashback and Jesus ministry almost started at 50 not 30 if he had a got so he made that he Mary said and he did it and the water was turned into wine and a good time was had by all and Jesus was able to go forward Mary was no joke no joke but I believe that Jesus got some stickness from his mama man Jesus was fussing those Pharisees out at every turn and he didn't let them get away with nothing yeah I hear you talking but what's in your heart he came for them the the only people we see Jesus coming for like that are the church folks that were acting up we don't see him treat anybody else like that yet we live in a time in an era where we are harsh to those who don't know Jesus and give a pass at levels of immorality that I believe Paul would say are not even heard of among the Gentiles to the people in the house of God but I'm going to have a fit because you wear you what did they wear what they're doing on their t-shirt and you hide it under your collar and I'mma beat them who don't know Jesus and excuse I'm sorry I'm sorry happy Mother's Day happy Mother's Day Happy Happy Mother's Day Jesus didn't he wasn't confused he wasn't confused we got to get this corrected Jesus wasn't demanded from those who didn't know the law the law and letting those who had the law B the law up but let [Applause] okay he knew he knew and that gave him that obstinance that gave him that stubbornness but here's something else that Jesus had to have gotten from all his mamas back to Matthew chapter 1 if we go to verse 17 it says thus were there 14 generations and all from Abraham to David 14 from David to the Exile in Babylon and 14 from the exile to the Messiah we have these generational block blocks the reason another reason that is important to understand that Jesus had a biological relationship with the women in his line is because we have come to know now that trauma actually has a biological impact it is a field called epigenetics and what they have discovered is that when we experience traumatizing situations that overwhelm our bodies Our nervous systems that it actually has an effect on our DNA that is heritable from generation to generation now this shouldn't surprise us really be but it does because we make God so small we we underestimate the ways that we're fearfully and wonderfully made we really don't get it but we know that God is a generational God and in the Psalms we're told that we should pass one generation should praise His name to another generation to another so we know that we're designed to pass on generational praise so why wouldn't the fall cause us to pass on generational pain why is that confusing it makes perfect sense to me but the science is so interesting and so it really got big when a woman discovered that the children of Holocaust survivors were getting PTSD at a higher rate than the general population there was something that was happening to their bodies that made their stress response different so they were more susceptible to PTSD as well as anxiety and depression so a number of mental health issues that the children of Holocaust Survivors had and as they continued on with the research they found that even the grandchildren of the Holocaust survivors were having these biological reactions so we know how to break the gener generational curse we got Jesus we know how to disrupt generational memory we change our story but now we're talking about generational biology how do I break it in the body because we're so hard on people well you just need to let that go let it in your P remember Jesus but their bodies have been changed by trauma and so you're saying well memorize more scripture and I want you to memorize scripture I love memorizing scripture but trauma can actually make memory difficult can make it hard to concentrate had to maintain information trauma can break up um our moods it has so many impacts because of what's happened to our bodies and so they found out that children not just the people who were traumatized in the Holocaust but their children but the fact that their children's children were traumatized was powerful because that starts to get Beyond a story we're saying what's going on and then they had the opportunity because at the time the research was happening 911 happened and 3,000 Americans were killed on that tragic day which traumatized many of us in different ways it was difficult for me to fly for some time after that that's a traumatic reaction but there were also people in the buildings who escaped and we don't understand why some escaped and some didn't we know that people who knew God died in those buildings and we know people who knew God escaped so he's Sovereign and we don't understand that but among some of the people who escaped some of those women were pregnant and so this researcher got in touch with them and asked them to participate in this understanding and so they did and they tested the um children who were born who had been in the womb during 911 11 in the building whose moms were so traumatized and found those children were born with the same markers as the children of the Holocaust victims and so something that overwhelming happening to the body changes the chemistry and that stress hormone breaks the barrier between the baby and the mother's womb and the baby and it floods them with this stress hormone that turns off their DNA that modulates the stress response that's the easiest way I can tell you so it changes the DNA not like the child's eyes were going to be brown and out are blue but it turns off and and off and on switch on these DNA that modulate my stress response that's the quickest way to explain it and these babies born from the 9/11 day showed that and so in order then to figure out what's really happening some research has been done in animals because humans live for a long time so it's hard to to research multiple generations and so the first big study was done in mice and they found that they took this group of mice and they exposed the mice to the smell of cherry blossoms which is a pleasant smell and then they would shock them while they were smelling it and then I know it's mean keep a mouse next time you see one make it a pet make up for this and and so they they they shocked it and they became afraid of the scent but what they then found was that the children of the mice who had been shocked with the scent were born afraid of the scent even though they had never been shocked and they were so blown away by this that they were like well maybe the mothers who were shocked are kind of teaching the kids to be afraid and so they took those mice and let them put them in cages with mice who had never been shocked to be raised by them and even though they were raised by mothers who had not been traumatized by the shock the mice still had had the fear of the smell so the trauma went with the body of the mouse and so this is really important because so many of you have been blessings to children who have needed it you have adopted and you have fostered and you have been blindsided when around 12 or 13 years old when puberty set in that child's Behavior took a left their anxiety came out depression showed up Rebellion showed up anger and you're like what is going on what's Happening is the trauma came from where they were to where you are it's not that you didn't parent them well not that you didn't give them everything but there's some broken in their bodies and it comes on love them through that don't try to find fault that's not the moment to get stricter rules and harder core it's to love more fear responds to love love and so the mice had this problem but then they had one more generation of mice B and the third time the grandchildren of the mice who were shocked were born afraid of the smell so something is tra in and when I first read that I was like wow this is incredible and it's like it's it feels hard to believe if you haven't heard it before because our beliefs are don't change easily even when people present you with facts but one of the things I looked at was what does the bible teach me about seeds because the Bible constantly calls our ovaries our our reproductive that we're making seeds and so I started studying seeds and found out that seeds go through the exact same epigenetic process if you put a seed in a hot place and it starts to get dehydrated and it and you planted and it still got enough left to be able to um germinate that that plant will be weaker Thrive less and produce seeds that also have issues and so we see that in seeds as well there's an entire field of epigenetics in agriculture that has long been in place before it was in humans but my Bible says that I shall be like a tree so everything about trees teaches me about my biology so the fact that chees can have epigenetic trauma means I can also have epigenetic trauma I only need the Bible to tell me that because I know I'm like a tree but I appreciate the science catching up with the word of God showing that it is actually true so I appreciate that so we found out then that something is traveling but I want you to know that Jesus understands but I also want you to have mercy on yourself I'm almost done I want you to have mercy on yourself because so many trauma survivors and and some of you are just children of trauma survivors and yes your mom may have completely failed you and she wasn't there and she was traumatized and her grandmother's traumatized but it has changed you and I want you to have mercy on yourself that there's work that you can do on your knees and in therapy and in groups and in healthy relationships that can heal what has happened to the body that it doesn't have to be forever but it is actually real so when you're like why can't I handle this stress I need to do better I need to be stronger honey you've been broken in the process have mercy on yourself God's not mad at you I'm not mad at you you just mad at you and maybe somebody taught you to be mad at you but Mercy it's real it's really happening Holocaust Survivors that's entire swath of people so it's not even just individuals but when we've seen entire groups of people indigenous Americans the one of the matriarchs of my family was a child who survived the massacre her her entire tribe the Katan tribe in Virginia so that trauma a whole people being passed on my father's side black Americans and slaved beaten terrorized Jim Crow a whole thing it's real it's real but here's the thing that blows me away in the most recent animal study done they studied worms these worms have the capacity to glow in the dark and they do it when they're under duress which is when it's too hot and so they had these worms they raised them in a cold space they moved them to some place where it was hot and they started glowing when they moved them back to the cold place they kept glowing and they glowed for seven generations in the cold because having turned on that stress response it passed down from generation to generation seven generations of these worms but then they wanted to see if they could exacerbate it so they took the worms from a cold place healthy ones put them in a hot place the lights turned on they began to Glow they kept them in the heat for five generations imagine that a people the Jewish people Rand in genocide indigenous Mar five generations of heat and then they took him back to the cold and that trauma response persisted for 14 Generations the longest period of time we have found it persist is 14 generations and here in my Bible in Matthew 1:17 it says thus there were 14 Generations in all from Abraham to David 14 from David to the exile to Babylon and 14 from the exile to the Messiah which means when Jesus was born it was generation 14 he had trauma in his body and so what you're going through Jesus went through because he was born under that yoke but my Bible says that for this purpose was the son of God manifest to destroy the works of the devil and so he lived with that trauma but he won he won he won Jesus won victory victory victory victory Hall oh my God he won won he won he won he got Trauma from his mom but he won Hallelujah Hebrews 4:15 says stand to your feet I'm finish Hebrews 4-15 says we have not a high priest who cannot be touched by the feelings not the thoughts he didn't come here about your thoughts the feelings of our infirmities that infirmities means that word infirmity means human weakness it means the vulnerability of these bodies yes you wish it hadn't hurt you you're angry it hurts you and it lasted this long but just understand we're vulnerable as humans that's it we are supposed to be wound he made us vulnerable and it was abused by someone but it's not a bad thing in itself and so Jesus came and put on a human body and that's why he was able to feel our feelings cuz feelings are Human Experience their bodily experiences and so he did feel everything it says he was tempted in every way but he never sinned so that means no emotion is a sin so the feelings that you're having as a result of your trauma the flashbacks and the grief the struggles the anxieties the depression is not a sin because if Jesus felt it and didn't sin then it's not a sin for you so you're okay Hallelujah you're okay Hallelujah he did it for you for you to know that he knows how you feel and then it goes on to say in Hebrews chapter 4:16 that this is the reason that we can go boldly before the throne of grace in our time of need he's praying for us cuz he knows what that need feels like and we can all pray for somebody even if we've never felt what they felt but there's some special thing about the way we pray for somebody when we feel what they have felt there's a special way and Jesus prays for you in that special way 24 hours a day seven days a week he's sitting on the throne of grace because he has felt everything you felt he's felt the jarring Shake of trauma he's felt the sadness of grief he he's felt the sear of physical pain and he loves you so much and he's saying I want to be yours hallelujah hallelujah so if there's one in here today and you've never asked Jesus to save you if you've never said oh my God somebody who really knows how I feel who really gets it hallu came to do something for me I want to introduce you to that Jesus maybe you heard of another Jesus but I want to introduce you to the Jesus whose mama was a trauma Survivor whose grandmother was a trauma Survivor who comes from women who were raped and mistreated and left out and then he took care of those women in return that's the Jesus I want to introduce you today who wrote new laws with the Finger of God on behalf of a woman who had been broken I want to introduce you to that woman today so even if your mother wasn't the mother you needed and she passed trauma to you Jesus understands I just want to invite you hallu huj to come and meet that Jesus is there one is there one who wants to renew their relationship with God you walked away from them y'all aren't really on great terms but you know it's if you're there if you're here I want to invite you as well every head um I closed every head bow there are some of you who know Jesus you serve Jesus but there's been a little distance between you and Jesus cuz you really you got questions about the pain that you've been through and you just try not to talk about that part of the relationship and just hang out on the church part of the relationship but today I'm going to pray for you that you would come to know Jesus as your savior in the place of your pain if you want any of that prayer just repeat after me Lord Jesus thank you for knowing how this feels thank you for volunteering for it for me please come and save me in the place I hurt the most I want us to be [Music] friends forgive me for not realizing how amazing you were Wash Me from all my sins I want to be yours I receive you amen so easy so easy for
