Overview of ProVia Doors and Features

foreign thanks for watching this video today I want to talk to you about Pro via doors provia has been around since the 70s they make a really wonderful product they're based in Ohio Sugar Creek Ohio which is the heart of Amish Country Now one thing we do know about Amish people right they do do a really good job at craftsmanship so these are handcrafted in many occasions but a lot of it is too Machinery because they're they have the best of both worlds right they have that old school technology which is really paying attention to what you're doing and they also have all this high-tech stuff in fact they've got solar panels all over their roof it's kind of a thing to watch you see these guys come through on a horse and buggy they pull into work and they've got solar panels on a roof pretty cool they're obviously not putting off any co2s into the air on that job hey let's talk about Pro via right this is their little logo you might see a truck going down the road sometime they make doors they make entry doors they make sliding doors they make Windows here at Houston window experts we carry their door product now people want to know why pravia what's reveal like well they make fiberglass doors they make steel doors and if you go to Home Depot or you go to Lowe's you'll find fiberglass doors and steel doors now these doors are going to cost more than that in fact these doors kind of take off where the stuff you get at Lowe's at Home Depot leave off so home Home Depot Lowe's this is where they come to on quality and price these guys start just above that because they don't want to compete with that they're not made in China it's not bulk stuff this is really high quality stuff so I'm going to show you first there's steel door this is a steel door here now when you look at it you're not going to know that this is a steel door because it just looks like a door this happens to be the full view version of the door right you usually see this like on the back door to the house or something like that but they make these with a half amount of glass like you'll see in just a minute no glass at all a little bit of glass at the top but these are steel doors they call this their legacy series now this steel door happens to have 49 more steel because it's a 20 gauge versus a 26 gauge then a typical steel door like you would buy at a big box store heavy heavy heavy really strong stuff now I want you to stay tuned because in a few minutes I'm going to talk to you about a 360 pound man running at 17 miles per hour and you're going to see that that's a very interesting statistic about their door but here's how you can tell it's a steel door and maybe clay can get you a close-up of this but you see that little seam right there there's a seam right there okay so if you notice in that seam it's not welded in any way a lot of steel doors that you find big box stores they're welded seams and the welds start to fail they get a little water on them they rust they expand they contract if you go look at your door that needs replacing you'll see where the weld is and you'll see that that's probably where you're having the problems down low and where the weld is well instead and watch this footage here I'm going to roll this for you you can see how they actually have interlocking tabs so you have an outside panel you have an inside panel those interlock together they put a sealant on there so no moisture can get in and then they fill the cavity with an expansion foam a closed cell expansion foam well what does that do well it makes it rigid it makes it strong it makes this door very very durable and it'll last a long time because think about a door swinging out like this they're they're suspended right like you're hanging off this door this is really has to be strong for it to last a long time makes it strong it also reduces the sound that comes through the door with that foam in there and it also helps keep the heat and cold transfer from happening as much through the door when you've done that so this is a steel door I love steel doors because they're really nice and smooth they also make them with a gr with like a wood grain simulated wood grain texture but you can paint these doors and they are really going to last a long time they look really good now come over to this door this door is same company same glass same almost everything except instead of it being made out of steel this door is actually made out of fiberglass so if you notice here you don't have that seam here right this is not no seam there at all some people like this look better I don't know why it's a big deal it's not like you're going to stand here and stare at it unless the door is open but this instead has a fiberglass skin on it right instead of having the steel skin in it's assembled in a different manner but it also has right through here it has a one and seven eighths inch reinforcement out of actual real wood it's actually really LDL wood so it's very strong and of course that helps reinforce here where you have your locks so that's where you get this strength from on a fiberglass store also again very durable what I like about fiberglass is it will never rot right it doesn't rot it doesn't warp it doesn't rust you're not going to have any issues with the fiberglass door like you are with a wood door especially a cheap wood door which is what you might have today now I want to show you that they have two different types of thresholds thresholds are the part you see down here at the bottom this threshold right here is their standard threshold which has these adjustable screws so what we can do is we can put a screwdriver in there we can raise and lower that threshold so that you can get it to actually sit right up against that weather stripping that's at the bottom there and that helps keep dust and dirt and it helps keep bugs out helps keep the light out in fact if you stand right now you can even hit pause go look at your back door your front door if you can see light coming through you probably need to work on that door or you need a door like this because the light's not going to come through this because it has an adjustable threshold where everything is touching really nicely also look at this weather skirt that they have on this this is on all three sides okay nice big heavy duty weather skirt let me get my pocket knife out here I want to show you how this kind of works put my knife back there pull this out see that look at look at how nice and thick that is see that and if you notice here too as I pull this out see that little hole right there see that hole that's where we put the screw in all right to screw this door down so when when we get done you won't see screws because all of the work we did is behind that weatherstripping there's some more up here there's some more down there lower and this is how we hold the door into place now one of the things that I want you to notice too on this is that this is composite this material right here is a composite material okay it's made out of something that they won't tell me but I'm guessing that it's polyvinyl chloride is something along those lines and that keeps this from writing why most doors when you see them rot they rot down here in the bottom six to 12 inches because water splashes down there and then water gets Wicked back up into the door frame and that's where you start to lose your door on this one this has an actual wood this saves you a little bit of money right this has a wood jam instead of a composite Jam however they do have what's called a frame saver and you can't really see it but it's here about the bottom six inches or so or a composite that then finger joints onto the wood so even on this one the bottom with a jam saver It Won't Suck up that water it won't make this rot and that's really cool because this door is going to last you a very long time now right here something you can't see but I want to kind of point to the general vicinity right behind where our deadbolt and a strike plate are here there's actually a steel plate back inside of here and this is a reinforcement it's to help prevent force entry breaking and intrusions into your home so I mentioned to you and thanks for sticking around I mentioned to you about a 360 pound man running 17 miles an hour he doesn't exist there's no such thing okay but in their testing and watch this we'll roll some footage for you here they actually taken this hundred pound weight pulling it back all the way back like you see there they release it and it hits the door and that's what it took it took a 360 pound man equivalent to that 360 pound man running at 17 miles an hour in order to gain entry into this door with that with that reinforcement plate behind there so how do we do it well has a reinforcement played in there okay we don't just put the plate there it's already on there but we put the screws through here and we don't use the regular little inch and a half screws like most people do we use a three inch screw so we screw all the way through that we go all the way into the framing the stud that's over here behind the wall same thing on this side if you notice here there are three screws in here okay these three screws are the ones that come from the factory to hold the hinge in place and then that vacant holder you see there there's no screw in it because obviously we're not doing a permanent install here this is our showroom there's where we have our three inch screw self-tapping screw that goes all the way through and it goes back into the studs so back here concealed we have three inch screws multiple places on the hinges which is a weak point and on a strike plate which is a weak point we also use three inch screws and we go all the way through we go back in there and hit the studs that's how we can keep the 360 pound 17 mile an hour guy from breaking into your house now anybody who wants to break in we'll find a way to get in but it's nice to know that provia and Houston window experts went to the trouble to try to make this door as safe as possible okay heavy duty ball bearing hinges you can see the little ball bearings in here boy it keeps these things just where they flow and they open and close so nice and easily okay you don't want to paint those they come in lots of different options so don't paint them please when you paint them you're actually making that paint stick on there and you're going to realize that it's not operating as good as it should they're adjustable as well the strike plate has multi-point adjustments to it so that when you first close the door maybe after the weather stripping settles down a little bit we have to come back out and then and adjust it a little more so that it can close even a little bit better these are things that are important on a high quality door that has a lot of great traits to it and this is really cool how it functions now a minute ago I showed you that weather stripping Threshold at the bottom that was adjustable with four screws check this one out this is called The Zac z-a-c and I love this weather strip it's a little bit of an upgrade the threshold here if you notice there's no screws on top of this one like the other one but I hope you can see this but actually when I step on it press on it it actually comes up and down it's actually spring-loaded there's a spring loaded mechanism in here so that when I close the door okay it grabs onto this and this gives it resistance so that I know that it's automatically always adjusting to where my door is instead of having to adjust it down there every so often this will automatically adjust because it's going to make good contact with our weather skirting that's underneath on the bottom there lots of colors to pick from I mean dozens of colors to pick from you can actually get stained finishes you can get paint on finishes they're using a two-step urethane process that they sprayed the doors with it's a robotically done at their Factory and then it's baked on so that it'll last forever and ever and ever but they put a 10 year warranty on it but it's better than you buying a primed door like you would get at Lowe's at Home Depot and then having to come home and paint it because you're going to see brush marks and it's not going to last nearly as long urethane paint two-step urethane paint going into an oven coming back out another coat when putting back on going back into the oven these are the things that they do to give you a nice beautiful finish and they can even do custom colors so if you have a specific color you need there's a setup fee for that but if you have a specific color they can do that for you as well so if you're in the Houston area and you like to check out these Previa doors we have many of them please come by and take a look and I'd love to show you around we'd love to help you with your project if you don't live in this area check out jeff'slist.com it's a website started with a list of great window companies all over the country hey before you go I want to show you here's one of their doors okay this is more like a just a solid door and we put this door in here so that we can get access in and out of our showroom and that's pretty cool and then follow me over this way I want to show you another door okay we're taking a little quick trip over here just so you can see the different styles and the different things that they can do this door is a door that we have going back into our back offices and I love how it looks it's got this kind of contemporary look to it but it's also private in the sense that it has this privacy glass so some people like this for a front door because if you notice here it's very small there's not much glass to break out somebody's not really going to break out the glass and then be able to reach in and unlock your door typically speaking and also you have to worry about privacy because this does have a little bit of privacy on it but it's kind of a cool contemporary look and then let me show you the one in my office and we'll be done this is a little bit different this is more their contemporary style door and if you notice here you know it's nice and black and it's got lots of glass in the middle of it but here's the part I want to point out to you that's pretty cool if you notice here the way this trim is done okay and I have Clay get you a close-up of the other one this is their contemporary style trim nice flat 90 degree angles really flush with the door on this side right here really cool looking compared to the other one and here's the b-roll of it it's got What's called the OG it's got a little more original style except a little more traditional so they've got contemporary style doors they have Light commercial doors they have residential doors they have sliding doors a lot of great options from a really good company and your installation Houston window experts is going to be superb you know I believe that buying Windows should be simple it should be painless
