Importance of Head Movement and Footwork

Drill 1: Four-Way Ducking Drill
- Originally demonstrated with cross line and ropes
- Can be practiced in a regular stance
- Imaginary slip line used
Steps:
- Duck back
- Duck forward
- Duck right (under a lead hook or moving right)
- Duck left
- Practice in a round non-stop
- Incorporate a pendulum flow
Advanced Footwork:
- Mix up movements:
- Back forward, right pivot, left pivot, etc.
Drill 2: Side Step with a Slip
- Can be used for conditioning or tactical reasons
Steps:
- Slip right and step right (creates distance and safety)
- Counter from new position
- Same steps for the left side
Execution:
- Work one side at a time or as a flow
- Conditioning improves capacity and reduces hesitation
- Synchronize head movement and footwork
Drill 3: Moving Forward with Head Movement and Footwork
- Helps cover ground to get inside while moving head
Steps:
- Slip right, step forward right
- Slip left, small step left
- Alternate: right-left-right-left, etc.
- Relax and allow natural movement
- Combine with punches
