Introduction

• Genre: A type or category of something.
  • Examples: Music genres (rap, hip-hop, pop, rock, metal), Film genres (horror, romance, western, action).
  • Genre denotes the type of film, music video, or video game.

Subgenre

• Subgenre: A more specific category within a larger genre.
  • Prefix 'sub-': Means under or below.
  • Example (Horror Genre):
    • Supernatural horror
    • Psychological horror
    • Slasher horror
    • Torture horror
  • Each subgenre possesses unique elements making it distinct within the main genre.

Hybrid Genre

• Hybrid: Combining two or more genres together.
  • Hybrid cars: Use both petrol and electricity.
  • Examples of Hybrid Genres:
    • Romantic comedy (romance + comedy)
    • Action adventure (action + adventure)
    • Sci-fi horror (sci-fi + horror)
  • Films can combine more than two genres, e.g., an action film with romance and sci-fi elements.
