guys even if you're new to business I'm sure that you've all heard of the word branding right branding is one of the very first things that we learn about in the business world you hear business coaches and YouTubers talk about it all the time they say things like you have to Define your branding blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah what does that even mean right the problem is very few coaches actually talk about the psychology of branding your business why is branding so important to begin with and what exactly do the effects of branding have on human behavior so today we are going to be discussing just that and if you're confused about brand psychology or if this whole branding thing is just a big mystery or if you don't understand why you need to brand your business in the first place you're in the right place and lucky for you I'm currently one of the only Etsy coaches who studies and teaches neuro marketing which is basically a fancy way to say that I teach people how to sell things and in a way that the brain really likes now before we begin I want you to let me know in the comments which of these scenarios best fits your current situation okay so option one you have a business but you're unsure of what it really means to be a brand option two you've been led to believe that your logo colors and fonts are your branding option three the phrase Lifestyle brand confuses the heck out of you I mean what does that even mean right or option four you have a defined brand image but you don't understand the psychology of it all okay so let us know in the comments and while you're getting those responses in I want you all to know that you're in the right place today if you struggle with any of these scenarios you have a competitor who makes a similar product to you and you need to learn how to one-up them without actually changing your physical products or if you struggle to attract the attention of potential customers and you're afraid that most Shoppers are browsing right past you especially on big marketplaces like Etsy right if you fear that you'll never be able to price your products for what they're actually worth and the time that you invest in them or if your conversion rates are really bad and you lose a little piece of your soul every time someone favorites an item from your shop but doesn't buy it so if any of these topics apply to you I've got some good news today you're going to learn a cool little trick to help overcome all of them and if you have questions by the end I'll stick around for a little while with Martin to help answer them for you and I may also have a super awesome freebie for those of you who sell on Etsy that Martin mentioned so be sure to stick around until the end for goodies and those prizes from printify um and Martin did you wanna did you want to reiterate what their what their okay I mentioned earlier about that coupon code contest that we're gonna do right now okay and just to clarify right now make sure your printify accounts are out click on the little green button on the upper right hand corner and from the drop down menu select payments and then once you get to that screen scroll a little bit down to where it says coupon you'll see a little space to enter a coupon code we're gonna I'm gonna put a coupon code on screen first person to put that coupon code in will win fifty dollars a printify sales credit and uh you won't see any big bells and whistles saying yay congratulations you're a winner you will either get the sales credit or you will see you will see the response this code doesn't exist which means sorry you weren't fast enough good luck but we'll do it one more time in today's presentation so with that said let's go ahead and give away 50 bucks okay all right is everyone ready are we ready today's first coupon code is Starla is awesome all one word oh I can I can hear people all around the world world feverishly typing in on their keyboards okay if you are indeed the winner let us know in the chat that so we can all celebrate your your win if you didn't enter the code in time well like I said you're gonna have one more chance to do it okay but congratulations let's see if we have that let's see all right well if it pops up in chat then then we'll know but let's continue on with today's presentation take it away Starla yeah awesome yeah you guys need to let us know who has the coolest sunglasses right now okay let us know who's whose sunglasses are cooler all right so there's going to be lots more fun stuff coming your way soon but first let me quickly super quickly introduce myself for all of our newbies who may not be familiar with me and I'll tell you a little bit about my personal Journey on Etsy okay so for those who don't know me already my name is Starla Moore I'm an Etsy coach a YouTuber a public speaker and I'm a manager at e-rank.com com which is etsy's most popular SEO tool if you've been following me for a while you probably already know that I didn't work for e-rank until around 2020 and around that time e-rank CEO Anthony Wolfe actually came to me with a little project or what he thought was a little project that ended up being a several month long project to keep things short Anthony wasn't happy with his branding sure it looked techied enough but he wasn't connecting with Etsy sellers the way that he wanted to and I'm sure some of you long time Etsy sellers may even remember when e-rank was called Etsy Rank and it looked a lot like this right Anthony wanted his website to feel just as warm and welcoming as his service truly was he wanted to connect with Etsy Sellers and handmade business owners who often knew nothing about the techie side of running a business they were artists and creatives today e-rank looks completely different not just the visuals but the level of community engagement the social media outreach and even the tools that Anthony offers because e-rank users suddenly felt so connected to the company after the Rebrand that they were willing to suggest new tools that they wanted to see so how did all of these changes affect e-rank in the long run does the look of a website really matter does social media advertising and having a cohesive brand presence truly make a difference do the pretty colors directly translate to more Revenue spoiler alert it did e-rank has become the world's most popular Etsy SEO tool and for most Etsy sellers the company is a household name this isn't just about pretty colors this is about the brain and how it perceived e-rank as a brand and it all started with a shift in branding and a targeted focus and today I'll be sharing the exact strategy that I pitched to Anthony wolf when I first started building the e-rank Rebrand project that eventually led to his company becoming one of the largest search Platforms in the world so to sum it up I've been around the Etsy block I build Brands it's my guilty pleasure it's the one thing that I am darn good at which is why you should all listen to me when I say that 99.9 of online sellers are handling their branding all wrong okay maybe not like 99.9 but a good majority I see it every day and I know that because I'm often the first person that they run to when they need someone to fix it so right about now I'm sure some of you are proud I'll be thinking oh crap right but you shouldn't be you shouldn't be and here's why if most sellers are executing their branding all wrong it means that you have a Competitive Edge it means that there is unoccupied space at the top reserved just for you and this is where you obviously want to be right at the top and today I'm going to help you get one step closer to the top but in order to do this I need you to understand something very important okay and once you understand this one thing you'll already be ahead of a majority of sellers no matter which platform you sell on to hear it let me know in the comments if you're ready okay there's a delay so I'm just going to assume that you're all ready okay here your branding is not a logo it is not a font it is not a color or a combination of colors let me repeat that your branding is not a logo a font or a color your branding is an abstract space that occupies the mind of your consumer your branding is decided by and controlled by your viewers and Shoppers based entirely on the way that you make them feel or the way that you've made them feel in the past and this doesn't mean how you as a person makes them feel it's actually a feeling that's grown through a combination of elements that you may or may not have control over and that's a scary thought right that your branding is somewhat out of your control I mean it should be a little bit scary but it's only scary if you don't have a defined brand image it's only scary when you don't have a goal for how you want that unique person to feel when they come into contact with your brand it's only scary if you don't know the Target customer that you're catering to and how to speak to their morals and values so let's go over what you can't control versus what you can control okay first the things that you can't control you cannot control how the person was already feeling when they came into contact with your brand maybe they were having a bad day maybe your brand was tied to some negative experience that they had either way you can't control that right and you cannot control what others say about your brand most of the time we'll talk more about that soon okay but for now these are the two things that you need to let go of because ultimately they are out of your control instead you need to focus your energy into the elements of your brand that you can control elements that will increase the perception of your brand in those crucial feelings that we want to create within our ideal customers some of these include your pricing and how Shoppers interpret the quality of your products based on your prices remember cheaper is not always better okay your packaging which can be hard for print on demand but it's why ordering samples is super duper important okay your visible branding out elements like your logo fonts and colors so that's just one thing right the setting in which the product is experienced whether that be in person or the online setting that you create through your visible branding because we've all been to those websites that you know are just not put together very well and you don't have trust to purchase you don't think you're actually going to receive your product your customer service and communication and how you handle issues or problems with purchases your reviews not 100 but for the most part your product photos and any mock-ups that you use to display your product very important your marketing and advertising whether that be on social media YouTube email marketing blogging brand deals so on yada yada your online presence and the voice that you use when communicating online both through you know if you do videos or just how you speak in your posts and messages and even your policies on matters such as returns exchanges or unhappy customers okay so as you can see you're in control of a lot the key is to make the most of what you are in control of to make those elements cohesive and the coolest thing is the more that you focus on perfecting the elements of what you are in control of the more likely it you are to see positive feelings erupt from the areas that you are in control of or control of such as reviews and the way that people talk about your brand and so on okay because ultimately feelings are the basis of a Brand's identity now I highly recommend that you write that line down okay feelings are the basis of a Brand's identity and those feelings should be ever growing within your Target customers feelings form positive connections they form trust they form happiness and pride in a product or brand and this is extremely powerful so before we go on I have a quick question for you and this may seem silly but I want you to answer very very honestly okay I want you to tell me in the comments what is a feeling in your own personal words what is a feeling and there are no wrong answers here this should be your personal definition of What a Feeling is so I'll give you guys a few seconds to answer while I get a drink Martin um feel free to let me know what they are saying I know there's probably a lag sure no problem hmm they happy to do that um let's see uh let's see a mindset from Judy Grisham let's see jagar prakesh the the aforementioned jigar prakesh says Expressions boy they're coming so fast I can hardly keep up uh Victor says your current mood uh Pamela says emotion and Yvette says hello okay well hello Yvette hello but yeah they're coming in so fast they're coming in so fast biology intuition emotions impression perfect perfect okay so all really good answers we've all got our own idea of what a feeling is right it's something that you've carried with you in your heart for as long as you can remember when it comes to feelings we just kind of know and we trust them and we act on them and we use them to guide us but what is it feeling really see I got you with a trick question I mean we all have our own unique definition of a feeling but what are feelings on a neurological level why do we have them to begin with why does our brain naturally make us feel things surely there's some technical evolutionary explanation right well the answer to this may surprise you and once you know the answer you'll be able to cater your brand to the ideal feelings that you want to create within your Target customers are you ready are you sure okay here's the very very short answer our feelings and emotions serve as shortcuts for the human brain that's it our feelings service shortcuts for the human brain because our brain wants to use as little energy as possible when making decisions thinking takes processing power and each day we only have so much processing power it's why you're less motivated at the end of the day as opposed in the morning after breakfast right the brain doesn't want to think too long or too hard about decisions so it uses a database of feelings in order to make choices fast in short the brain is a bit lazy it's a lazy three pound lump of Pathways that helps guide in our decision making I mean can you imagine how much it would suck if every time you walked into the toilet paper aisle at the grocery store you stood and analyzed every single brand on the Shelf if we had to read every label and compared every single option total craziness right most of us have a brand in mind already we know what it looks like and we know how to select it quickly we we know what brand to buy because we already have a positive feeling towards that particular brand and that brand now occupies a space in our mind that brand has become the obvious choice and we don't need to waste time looking at anything else we already know what brand to buy based on a positive feeling that we have for that brand and those positive feelings may come from a commercial that you saw or an ad on Facebook or a personal experience that you have with that product for toilet paper maybe you always settled for super thin Cheapo Brands but then you went to your Rich Aunt Bessie's house and noticed that she buys super nice toilet paper so you associate that brand with your Rich Aunt Bessie and you decide to give that a try the next time that you start you know looking at toilet paper at the store the obvious choice for you just changed and the new higher quality brand sets the new standard it becomes the obvious choice it sets what we call the anchor and let me tell you once you buy the expensive toilet paper there's no going back to the cheap toilet paper baby so in short when you appeal to emotions you appeal to shortcuts and people like shortcuts people love shortcuts however there is one big fat newbie mistake that I commonly see online sellers doing without even realizing it and that is trying to appeal to too many feelings or unknowingly causing too many feelings in the eyes of their Target customer what happens when we have too many feelings we get confused remember how confusing it was going through puberty when you had all of those mixed feelings and not knowing what boy or girl liked you and it was Madness right it's a bit like that when your brand creates too many feelings in the eyes of your target market your target market won't know what to feel at all see I have I have no idea what to feel right now I certainly don't want chicken or barbecue or a foot massage now that was obviously an extreme example but I see it every day as a coach in Etsy shops that use tons of branding colors messy product photos or most commonly just an overall inconsistency and since I don't know how to feel about the brand I can't relate to it I don't know if it's meant for me I don't feel inspired to buy it and that's obviously not something that you want your Shoppers to feel so how can you avoid this how can you ensure that you're creating an atmosphere that follows the true intentions of your brand and that creates positive feelings Within your target audience how can you make people feel the way that you want them to how can you control their feelings and the positive associations that will occupy space in their brains well that's exactly what we're going to be learning next after I take a drink but while I'm doing that Martin you've seen thousands of pod sellers who struggle with this do you want to share any words of wisdom to the Pod Community about selling within a niche versus selling anything and everything to everybody well um I will say this okay yes uh I've seen it all from good to bad to worse and everything in between and when it comes to a message decide on a message and whatever you do just be clear about it because uh in my in my experience you can either have put out a good message and make a lot of sales you can put out a bad message and make some sales but if you put out a confusing message you will make no sales okay so whatever you do make sure it's clear and up front and don't underestimate your customers ability to go through stop signs and miss and miss that information so you put it here you put it there you put it everywhere a clean consistent message but above all else please don't be confusing absolutely absolutely um did you did you need to do did you want to pick our next person or do you want to wait because we've got time at the end too tell you what why don't we get that out of the way right now because I want to remind everybody that is following along with today's presentation that if you have a question based on the information that Starlet is presenting no need to wait until the end of today's presentation when we do the Q a to put that question into chat go ahead and do it right as you think about it so you don't forget about it later our moderators kristaps and Sarang will be collecting all those questions and uh and we will be uh and I'll address those uh at the end of today's presentation so as as they come to you go ahead and put those into chat okay but why don't we do our second coupon code giveaway okay I that's coming at the end along with starless super awesome prize giveaway as well okay and and uh so so stay tuned for that all right that's enough for me Starla back to you take it away all right let's do it okay and let me tell you guys this is gonna get weird because I used to be a preschool teacher so stick with me okay today we're going to be traveling to outer space okay we're floating around and we need to create a place where all of your brand feelings and emotions will live okay so I want you to imagine your brand as a planet your brand is its own unique planet and every brand on Earth is its own unique Planet okay all of these little branded planets are floating around with their own little branded people and branded homes and branded personalities okay can you see them are you picturing them in your head all right for example's sake let's think about a few Major Brands to help get you started all right what about Tiffany and Co you know blue box white ribbon expensive jewelry think about what Tiffany or Tiffany and CO's Planet might look like what do the people look like what do the streets look like what's everyone wearing now I don't know about you but I'm thinking of upscale women with big black sunglasses and branded Tiffany blue dresses strolling with white puffy poodles and they're drinking fancy coffees and eating sugar donuts and everyone is elegant and smiling and maybe Katy Perry is playing on every radio station and everyone drives a powdered blue Volkswagen Beetle and little white Miatas well imagine Tiffany and Copeland and the people and the feel of this unique Universe can you see it now how many of you would live on this planet I don't know it's a little too fluffy for me let's change direction let's think of a different planet let's think of a planet with a little more chaotic energy let's imagine a Monster energy drink Planet totally different right on this planet there are monsters or monster trucks going through the sky and BMX or BMX bikes flying and guys with tattoos and tattered jeans they're jamming on guitars and they're a flame shooting from conveniently placed stated or stages on every block and everyone is muscular and tough and every person on the planet has their own pet tiger think about the type of people who live on the Monster Energy Drink planet and the feeling that this planet creates it's pretty different than the Tiffany and co-planner right you can see how each brand creates its own unique atmosphere and how it becomes own special planet now the question you need to ask yourself now is this what would your unique planet look like What feelings would your brand evoke now on a piece of paper which I should have told you guys that you would need paper for this one but thankfully there will be a replay if you need to come back on a piece of paper I want you to write down the following traits of your planet and work on filling out the specific details of each tonight after the webinar ends okay got it this is like your own special branding cheat sheet that you can use while marketing looking for your dream customers branding your storefront and even working on cohesive product lines think of this as the outline of your Brand's Persona everything that you do in the future is going to align with what we write down today okay so first I want you to think about the people who live on your Brand's planet what do they look like what do they wear are they mostly men or women how old are they think about the specific people who live on your planet and don't be afraid to stereotype okay if you're the CEO of Monster energy drinks you aren't catering your marketing to the ladies of Tiffany and co-planet right you're catering your brand to the big tattoo guys and the monster trucks if the Tiffany and Co girls can Vibe with your brand that's cool too but we're specializing we're catering and we're being laser focused got it okay next what do their communities look like what color are all of the houses do they live in colorful apartments or in large farmhouses what type of cars does everyone Drive are they all in cute little white convertibles or are they in big black muscle cars what's everyone's overall personality on your planet are they warm and happy and smiling or are they rugged and angsty and what type of music plays on your planet what's the theme song of your planet that plays on repeat you can even make a free Spotify playlist that only consists of just these songs listen to this playlist while you work and cater your marketing based on these invisible feelings that the music creates what type of jobs are you are available on your planet on Tiffany and co-planet maybe the jobs are like Baristas and models and bloggers and designers and on Monster Energy Drink Planet maybe everyone is a musician or they build motorcycles okay overall your job is to create a fun vision of what your brand would look like if it was its own planet and this isn't just in reference to your products or how your products could be used in each of these situations this could be symbolism this could be items that you feel tied to the Persona of your brand or something that you feel would be essential to the person living on your planet because ideally what you want to do is create a world where your products would fit based on the lifestyle of the people who already live there your products aren't the planet your product should complement the lifestyle of the people who already live there your products should fit into this world like a puzzle piece and that's exactly what it means to be a Lifestyle brand that's what it means to Define a niche and to develop a large Target customer right oh and here's an advanced step if you really want to go above and beyond I also recommend creating a private board on Pinterest where you can begin collecting images that you feel would represent your planet in a cohesive way so for example if you create products themed around forests and nature lovers your board could look like this if you create products themed around pink bubble gum fairies your board could look like this or if you create products themed around mermaids in the ocean you could create a board that looks like this okay there are no limits to your own planet and when you begin collecting these images you have a resource that will allow you to peek into the window of your unique target audience anytime you need to use it for inspiration ideas or to stay on track when you feel yourself straying from your original Vision which happens to all of us right we we get excited about something but we don't really think about how it ties into the long-term image of your brand and what we want to create we get squirrel Vision right has anyone ever done that I know I sure have but staying on track is essential staying true to your planet is essential because though this perception that we create within our target audience doesn't physically Exist by creating this defined brand image we increase the value of our product in the consumer's mind we profit from the invisible branding that we've created and we allow people to take a taste of the planet that we've cultivated through the purchase of our products we show potential customers the lifestyle that they aspire to have through our branding and marketing they're all pieces of a much bigger picture they are the foundation of a lifestyle that your unique customer wants to live within and you're helping them to create it oh and here's another fun psychology bonus your buyers will actually enjoy their purchase more and get more value from that purchase if the item has an emotional value to that buyer not a monetary value an emotional value Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz knew this it's why Starbucks can sell a cup of coffee for over five dollars it's not because of the coffee is worth five dollars and it's not because it's the very best coffee or even a good cup of coffee in fact there are arguably or arguably way better cups of coffee out there Starbucks can sell a five dollar cup of coffee because Starbucks is selling a lifestyle to people who want to be a part of Starbucks Planet sure the polished young businessman could stop at McDonald's and grab himself a coffee but then he wouldn't have the satisfaction of carrying that branded Starbucks cup into the office in fact Starbucks actually designed their cups to be more photogenic and recognizable even in places where Starbucks cups probably shouldn't be okay this is the power of a brand planet and in order for people to not just recognize your brand Planet but want to be a part of it you have to absolutely have to remain consistent to the feelings and aesthetic of your planet in everything that you do this is how a brand can literally occupy a space in a person's mind not just for a little while but permanently the more that we perform a particular action or thought the stronger the neural Connections in our brain becomes these connections become a part of us they become the shortcut every time someone sees a social media post or an ad from you every time someone is exposed to the ex or the Aesthetics of your planet every time someone buys your products every time you communicate with a customer or a potential customer neurons that fire together wire together that is a coined quote by neuropsychologist Donald Hebb neurons that fire together wire together it's why your parents always told you that practice makes perfect and it's exactly why consistency is crucial if you want to build an established profitable and cohesive brand that occupies the mind of your ideal customer not just for a day but for a lifetime you become the obvious choice not based in theory but based on science and with the tips that I've given you today you're on your way to laying the foundation for your own uniquely branded Planet your next step is to take the resources that I've given you and take action it will take time it will take practice and it will take experimenting but that that's the great thing about business there are no failures only new ways to do things and New Opportunities because business isn't about absolutes it's a science that requires constant experimenting in order to appeal to what makes both people and algorithms happy today we cover the people part and the more abstract side of business but as I mentioned earlier I'm also a manager at e-rank which means that on top of the abstract I also teach the important of or thank you so much for being so generous and that's available for everybody and not just everybody watching but that Starlet is cool link is going to live in the in the uh description of this video so even if you're watching this on replay click on it you still can get all that free stuff so that's pretty awesome and start I'm sitting here wondering what would a printify planet look like okay and I'm imagining it's all green Everyone's Watching walking around in hoodies carrying MacBooks and and drinking uh uh fancy micro Brews so that's what a printify planet would look like but judging by the activity and the comments a lot of people are having those aha moments whether it's like oh I didn't I never thought of it this way so for everyone out there put this stuff to work because this is in an effort from not only printify but also Starla for us to support you and grow we love to see people do well and make sure and if go back to our YouTube channel watch this this will exist on on our uh in the live tab so you can watch it again and again and again if you missed something and then go back and watch all of our other webinars as well okay but first subscribe to the Channel all right well I promised everyone that we would answer some questions but before we do another another uh attempt of mine at some Shameless self-promotion I'm gonna ask all of you to uh join me for my live q a sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays and couple that with Starla on Friday you've got your whole week covered Monday Wednesday and Friday you can sit down uh with myself you can sit down with Starla on Fridays and we can discuss and we can discuss how to make you a more profitable seller so we're going to pop that into chat uh pop the link for my session in into chat go ahead book yourself a spot right now okay all right so let's answer some questions and before we get into the audience question Starla I have a special question for you because we've featured people here on webinars before that don't put a lot of stock into uh branding your Etsy store uh they say it's not worth it um it's more about the listings rather than the store you play a numbers game you put out as many products as possible and you don't need to have a consistent theme only just product after products using the spray and pray method what's your response to that yeah so there's there's two ways to run a business there's the way that you want to make money quick and you're not really looking to build something that's going to follow you throughout you know a business career you just want to slap some stuff online if that's your strategy cool that's fine nothing wrong with it but then there are the people who actually want to help others so for example if I needed to you know make some money to pay my bills every month I wouldn't try to make that money by buying as many lottery tickets as possible when you create a bunch of listings that don't have any cohesiveness and you're just trying to appeal to everyone you're just buying lottery tickets you are trying to increase the probability of making a sale by buying more lottery tickets basically you're putting more listings out into the platform and no matter what platform you sell on you're going to be paying on Etsy it's 20 cents per listing and if you've got a thousand listings guess what that gets expensive every time those listings are new or you create products that are defined you create products that means something to someone that way you can make sure that you are actually building a brand based on longevity and a planet that you create that is way more marketable and way more likely to succeed now one cool thing that you guys can do is go to erank.com go into the top sellers report um in the competitors Tab and you can see the top performing uh shops on Etsy you can you can get a full list of them very very few shops in that list lack a cohesive brand image most of them have a niche so that's a good indicator that you're not gonna be a millionaire creating gazillions and gazillions of products and trying to appeal to everybody okay the best thing for longevity and wanting to actually build a sustainable business that can follow you through it and be marketable rather than being the Walmart you want to be the Tiffany and Co you want to specialize and cater right can you imagine if Tiffany and Co started making big Gothic jewelry that'd be weird so they're it's fine if you want to make as many products as possible that's fine but if you want to build a brand that you can Market that has a Longevity if you really want to invest yourself in this and not just try to make quick bucks I highly recommend investing a little bit of time into understanding what target market you want to appeal to and Catering everything you do around that specific person well truer words have never been spoken and you heard it right here folks it's about setting that foundation for long-term success okay oh and before we move on I just want to congratulate troyanka Orlando for being the uh second coupon code winner congratulations it's a beautiful name I hope I'm doing it justice by pronouncing it correctly okay but all right let's get on to the questions all right all right uh um all right today's first question comes to us from let's see oh I can't see the name but it's 007 something 007 thank you James Bond for joining um should you hire an ad or marketing agency what's your response to that I mean you can if you've got the money to spare most ad or marketing agencies are going to charge you an arm and a leg and I can tell you I've built multiple six-figure businesses doing it myself so it just depends uh it's an investment it's something that you can do or you know I'm I'm a big fan of learning how to do things yourself whether that be your branding your marketing or your SEO because once you know how to do it you can do it forever if you want to hire somebody later cool um it's more easy to teach someone something that you already know right and I I agree with you there if you especially if you're just starting out there's no sense in shelling out some money when you're when you're not even seasoned in in the business yet what you're going to likely be doing is just wasting that money okay there will be a logical point in your Merchant journey and your business in your in your business where it makes sense to uh to make those choices but not right at the beginning get do yourself a favor get familiar with the process get familiar with the business do it for a while take take starless advice and and learn the tips and tricks yourself and then once and then once it and then once it makes sense that's when you pull the trigger on something big like that okay thank you 007 Thomas okay um all right uh this next one comes from Lung X Lungi X okay looky X thank you Lungi for joining us uh you've uh I've added products on printify but I'm struggling to make sales can it be because of branding or could it be something else okay well um that is that's without doing a deep dive into what you're exactly doing that's a difficult question to answer um but if you're just starting out please don't be discouraged if sales are are coming slow there's a whole science to doing this business so um what I recommend for you to become is a student of this of of of print on demand there's so much information out there uh from from uh people like Starla from printify for you to um for you to apply for your success and that's going to be tweaking your uh your your listings your keywords using tools like e-rank that sort of thing a little bit here a little bit there and eventually once you start making those sales you realize oh this worked and that worked and I can tweak it this way and you'll start learning the the ins and outs of the business okay but don't be discouraged if it's slow at first most people are like that I find that people that have uh uh initial success right right out of the gate think it's too easy they give up they don't put in the work and it always Fizzles out so you so just just know that you're on the right track and keep it and keep it going moving forward okay all right uh thank you Lungi x uh let's go move on to uh monkeys monkeys everyone has a has a has a unique name today well makis is nice that's one of my students okay great okay then this one will be for you um is there a way to add a thank you postcard in our shop info in the packages okay he's asking about personal branding um this is something that we are working on um will it be a will it be something in the that we can offer you in the future I would like to think so um but uh when when this can will be available I don't know but uh this is this is certainly something that we hear a lot and we're going to do everything we can to make that possible but it's because of our very unique setup where we have over 80 print providers um that it's it will likely be rolled out in stages if and when it does come but I ask for you to be patient we're working on it and we hope we can deliver that at some point okay thanks monkeys um uh Ayanna Elmore thank you very much for joining Ayanna do you have recommendations on how to get Etsy high quality photos without a budget for a professional photographer yeah yeah tons I mean honestly most smartphones are good enough it's just being able to understand how to create those photos and Stage those photos well um I have a fantastic uh recommendation for a photography coach because I am not a photographer uh her name is Christina Nicole she has a YouTube channel called by Christina Nicole and she exclusively teaches uh smartphone photography for handmade businesses and uh creators and Etsy sellers so um I think that she would be a great resource to look into if you want to edit your photos for free there are fantastic websites to do that my favorite that is comparable to photoshop but free and not you know hard to use is ipicky.com it's i p i c c y.com it is fantastic I have never bought Photoshop because I love eye picky so much and it's totally free um so that's a great place to get started there you go ringing endorsement from Starla Moore wonderful good luck to you good luck to you Ayanna and I hope you get those pictures sorted um Victor Navarro asks Victor thank you for joining how can I manage to get my first sales without having reviews or a background what's your answer to that Starla that's fantastic one and the unfortunate thing is that Etsy is especially rewards sellers who have made sales that's that's how you build a listing quality score which is something that I teach in the Etsy SE oodles uh care package that I've included with the webinar but to keep it really really short um if you have you know a social media account that you're not using or you want to create yourself like a new Instagram account start just putting whatever you can out into the nether it's really hard to get those first few sales right if you've got a family member who has been wanting to buy from you rather than saying hey come to my house you know I'll I'll print your order and you know you can just you can just give me cash for it say hey if you really want to buy this if you want one of my products it would help me a lot if you bought it right from my my shop and yeah you sacrifice a little bit of those Etsy listing fees but it helps you so much more to gain those first initial sales now don't do any Shilling which is when you say Hey you know hey wife here's twenty dollars can you buy my product and give me the twenty dollars back just so you can reviews Etsy does not like that and they'll shut you down but if you've got people that you know that want your products anyway tell them to buy from your shop because they can be your biggest supporters yes and like uh like the old saying the Journey of a Thousand Miles begins with a single step and in this case a single review okay all right um moving on uh Royal candles has a question uh uh Royal candles uh says I have a huge trouble with price I am afraid if I will put a bigger price or add shipping cost people will not buy your my product how do I address that oh so what we often find is that businesses that are branded well are able to justify higher prices just like Starbucks Starbucks coffee it's it's not very good you know it's it's okay it's all right but I would rather French press my coffee at home but Starbucks has established their brand and built a beautiful aesthetic for their brand so that they can justify those premium prices your branding is something that allows you to be able to price higher so first of all you need to find your confidence in your product and in what you're creating that's important and then second you need to make sure that that confidence shines through in that brand aesthetic and it's not going to be perfect at first sometimes you got to play with it but that confidence shines through your brand and makes that price seem justifiable don't try to compete at the bottom you will never win by competing at the bottom as I always say it's easier to make one 100 sale than it is to make one hundred one dollar sales so don't be afraid to price higher often my students will increase their prices and actually make more sales because the perceived value of the product increases wonderful wonderful answer okay uh let's we've got time for just a few more questions um so let's uh let's let's see how many we can get done in the time that we have left okay uh Danielle asks this one is for you Starla uh any tips for writing product descriptions without being too salesy I've had I've heard people like to buy but not be sold to they're on your listing they're there to buy don't be afraid to sell if they're there to buy that's if you were at a cocktail party trying to pitch your products and everybody was you know just trying to enjoy their time that would be weird but they are on your listing to make their purchase I recommend especially on Etsy leading your description with the most important things about your product I even recommend you know doing it in a little quick bulleted list you know size if you're if you know there's anything that they need to know about care instructions yada yada start your description with that but then get fun and flavorful with that product description my favorite book is uh four product descriptions is called words that sell by Richard Bayan um words that sell it isn't a book that you read it's a reference book where you pop it open and you can find a bunch of words associated with love romance um extreme like sports and they will it gives you a great like list of recommendations that you can flavor your product descriptions with to make them stand out and pop and feel a little bit more fun so that's a really great resource okay and Danielle another opportunity for some Shameless self-promotion I did a webinar just last year where we did a deep dive into the ins and outs of writing good copy for your listing so go to our YouTube channel check that out and while you're there subscribe okay thank you Danielle okay I think we have time for maybe one more question um this one that comes from Bonnie vent her Quest Bonnie's question is what are the best pod products for digital artists how many should we provide how many sizes and materials on prints okay ooh that's fun see the thing is when you're an artist if you are like a Creator and you're known for your art your Niche isn't what your products are printed on um for example if you make beautiful watercolor art or beautiful digital watercolor art and you have a unique style that's recognizable people don't care if that that is printed on cards or or posters or mugs or tumblers they don't care what it's printed on they're buying your art your art is your Niche so experiment get get funky with it especially if you've already got a defined brand image based on the spec you know the specific or special style we can use Thomas Kincaid as a fantastic example everybody knows Thomas Kincaid's artwork and it doesn't matter what it's printed on you see it and you know Ah that's Thomas Kincaid right because he was known for his style so be known for your style and when you're known for your style you can print on anything and experiment with everything okay and uh Bonnie you should know that if you are choosing to use uh put your art onto canvases or into posters just know that in in the entire print on demand Universe those are amongst the most popular products sold so that's what people out there want to buy from print on demand Sellers and it's something that we do super super well okay so you can trust that you can trust your that your art will be reproduced just how you want it on a beautiful canvas or a beautiful uh poster it'll be delivered and arrived to your customers doorstep um uh in in in perfect order and even during the high Seasons our print providers they make all of their own canvases they stretch their own they stretch their own canvas they make their own frames so they never run out of stock and even and even in the uh busiest times those things are flying out the door and are delivered on time so if you if you're if you're considering bringing that business to printify or or doubling down I I highly encourage you to do so and you can do so with confidence all right wow wonderful all right timing wow we're bringing this in just
