if you want to tie braid to mono in the best way possible it's called an fg or fine grip knot and this is what it looks like the old fg knot not the easiest to tie but probably the best knot in the world for joining braid to mono so the key here you want your braid coming off your wheel and your rod nice and tight this i put in my mouth then i use this so nice and tight pull it off and then we get ready so that literally is crossed across the line there and i basically bring that back towards myself and then go below pull it tight towards away and just repeat this process keeping everything tight and going opposite each time away towards so i'll repeat this until i've got about 20 or 30 turns as you can see then it's time for the next step so now you can see all my turns i'll just pinch that there take the braid out of my mouth i literally put a half hitch over the top of both braid and mono and that just pulls up nice and tight like that and the good thing now i'm actually in control of them or not i then use a second half hitch so i'll just put that over again you can go the opposite direction doesn't really matter pull that up tight and this is when i like to really give that a good pull and give a good pull on both the braid and the mono as well sometimes you can use something to wrap around the braid to hold that together now a half inch to finish the job just going to shorten that braid a bit to make it easier so go over and through pull it up tight under through pull it up tight over then under this stops it from twisting around itself if you go in opposite directions and if you give that about i like to go probably four minimums sometimes a few more i can then cut the mono nice and close and then finish with some more half inches on that braid so one opposite direction two opposite direction three and then under for the fourth give that a good pull now this is another great trick to lock it off do another half hitch but go around two times and pull that up and then i can now cut that braid fairly short is a beautiful fg knot fine grip knot that will run through your guides like a dream in your cast as you can see a bit more complex than most knots but man is it good
