Again, good evening everyone and welcome to our first day of the free OPCAT review. Now, do you have any comments? Can we check your comments? So, to all attendees, can you comment on our post if you can hear me and if you can see our presentation.
Or press 1 if you can hear me and if you can see my slides. Okay, we can start now with UPCAT 101 or our introduction to the UPCAT. So about me, I think I introduced myself to our host earlier but I will also share a little bit about myself.
I am Victor Joseph Villacuerte, the founder and president of KIPAP and I graduated from Philippine Science High School and UP Diliman wherein my course is BS Civil Engineering. Throughout my stay in college, I have achieved multiple awards such as Automatic, Executive Challenge, and PH100, 100 Brightest Minds in the Philippines in 2024. Professional experience, besides being a founder of KIPAP, I was an intern in MDC and in Shopee. And fun fact, I have been invited to 41 universities to give a talk. and we have joined seven startup competitions so yun noong ako ay naga-apply din sa college entrance exams i applied to three schools upcat ateneo and lasalle and thankfully naman i passed them all so dito magbibigay tayo ng mga tips kung paano rin kayo makakapasa sa mga dream schools nyo so rin yung ating mga naging community of students, aspiring engineers and high school students. And hopefully, we'll grow that in the coming years.
And we're also featured on CNN and PTV4, so you can watch the episodes featuring me. And just recently, we have received a grant fund from the Quezon City government. And if you want more...
ng mga learnings natin sa tips on college entrance exam and even lecture videos. You can check out our YouTube channel, Kipap Education. So yun, bigyan natin ng konting background yung UPCAT. Sa UPCAT, as you may have already known, meron siyang apat na subjects. Unang subject, language proficiency, then science, then math and reading comprehension.
Ito rin yung nakalatag na rin dito yung number of items nila. and how many minutes per subject. Now, some lesser known facts about the OCCAT. The OCCAT is that OCCAT is steep in all your choices. Because if you answer carelessly or just guess, you will get a 1 fourth point deduction.
So upcat din, pwede kayong magdala ng snacks, pwede kayong kumain anytime during the exam. Make sure lang natin syempre na hindi makalala yung mga snacks na dadali natin. And another tip ko for upcat is kapag kunyari nagsisimula na kayo, kabibigay pa lang ng scratch paper nyo, pwede nyo isulat doon yung mga mahabang formulas para hindi nyo na kailangan silang imemorize while you are answering your exam. Meron din tayo ditong for asset, for...
DECAT, ito yung mga subjects nila at USTED. Pero again, hindi naman ito yung magiging focus natin ngayon. Let's focus kung paano tayo makakapasa sa UPCAT.
So these are my exam tips. Okay, so unang tip ko is eliminate some choices na obvious na hindi naman yun yung tamang sagot. So mapapasolve tayo ngayong introduction pa lang ng UPCAT review.
So meron ba sa atin nakakapag-comment? Ano kaya yung sagot natin dito? What is 444 times 976?
Meron ba makakasagot ng mabilis? Yun natin. Parang live ba yung chat?
Hindi ko ata nakikita yung mga live comments. Ayan. Ayun, okay.
Kitak ko na. Meron ba? Makakapagsagot agad.
Ano kaya yung sagot natin dito? 444 times 976? Okay, there. Kapag gusto nyo sagutan to ng mabilisan, ang gagawin nyo lang, syempre, is look at the choices.
Kung makikita nyo, yung choices natin magkakaiba yung last digit nila or yung once digit. Ngayon, diba kapag nagmumultiply kayo, ang una nyong ipe-perform is yung once digit. So, 4 times 6 muna. 4 times 6 is 24. So, maghahanap lang kayo ng choice kung saan 4 or 4 yung last digit niya. And so, without...
even solving the whole problem, makukuha nyo na yung tamang sagot and that is yun. 4, 3, 3, 4, 4. So ito yung gusto kong ipa ituro sa inyo sa UPCAT and that is try to figure out a way to solve each problem as fast as possible without losing yung pagiging without losing or without being careless. Diba?
Next! O, ito naman. Think of an easier approach. Kung bibigyan kayo ng question na what is 255 squared minus 245 squared? So yan, makikita ba natin sa comments?
Ano yung sagot nyo? Yun na, try nyong sagutan talaga yung mga pinapost ko na problem para matrain. Yung matrain na agad yung mind nyo ngayon pa lang. Tingnan natin, may nagsagot na green daw.
Ano pa? Green? Let's see the others.
Ba? I think the comments are delayed. I saw the comments from the previous question.
But okay. How about this? Okay, how do we answer this question?
What is 255 squared minus 245 squared? At first, this problem looks too long. Because first, you have to square 255. is square yung 245. Tapos, isusubtract nyo sila. So what could be an easier way to solve this problem?
Tandaan nyo na parang yung form ng question na ito, diba para siyang a squared minus b squared, right? At ulit, ano ba ang expansion ng a squared minus b squared based on yung natutunan natin sa factoring? Diba this is just a plus b, a.
minus B. So instead of thinking it as this, ang pwede niyong gawin, ilet niyo ito as A, and ilet niyo ito as B. And i-add lang sila together. Ano ba ang A plus B?
255 plus 245, this is just 500. At kunin naman yung kanilang difference, 255 minus 245, this is 10. And yung problem natin, naging sobrang daling, 500 times 10 na lang. So, ibig sabihin nun, We've solved 5,000. We didn't perform a long solution. Aside from knowing the quickest way to solve problems, we also have recommended to memorize when you're up-cutting.
One of them is Pythagorean triples. What are Pythagorean triples? They are sides of a right triangle. na puro cool numbers. So, for example, kapag meron kayong right triangle na may side na 3 at may side na 4, alam nyo na dapat na yung hypotenuse niya ay 5 without performing the Pythagorean theorem.
Kapag naman meron kayong triangle na hypotenuse na 13 at isang leg na 12, alam na dapat natin na yung other leg niya would have a length of 5. So, Very useful na mag-memorize kayo ng Pythagorean triples kasi ito yung pinaka-common na tinatanong sa UPCAT and other college entrance exams. Next thing na recommended kong i-memorize would be common fractions. Dapat, alam nyo na, na kapag binigyan kayo ng fraction, for example, 3 over 8, alam nyo na agad na 0.375 siya. Common fractions meaning yung mga fractions with single-digit numerator at denominator.
So, for example, Alam nyo na ba kung ano ang fraction form ng 3 fourths? So, yun. This is 0.75.
So, very useful, very time-saving kung alam nyo yung conversion agad-agad by heart. Para hindi na kayo kailangan mag-convert ng paulit-ulit. Next is the multiplication table. So, dapat mabilis na rin kayo kung tanungin kayo ano ang 6 times 7?
Dapat alam nyo na agad na ang sagot. 42. Ano ang 11 times 12? dapat alam niyo na agad 132. So, yun. Memorize the multiplication of the 12 by 12. So again, you won't waste time to write your solution on scratch paper.
And lastly, I also recommend that you memorize the sine and cosine of special angles. Special angles meaning the drawing of the unit circle. From trigonometry, what are our special angles? 10, 30, 45, 9. 30, 45, 60, and then 90, yun. And so on and so forth.
Kailangan alam nyo na ano agad ang sign ng 210. Ano ang sign ng 210? Tingnan natin sa comments. Okay, sign ng 210 is, tingnan nyo lang yung kanyang y coordinate, and that is negative 1 half. So, yun. Kung hindi nyo pa-memorize, Lahat ng ito okay lang kasi marami pa naman kayong time before the UPCAT.
Pero make sure na by the time na mag-UPCAT na kayo, lahat ng ito, memorize nyo na. Alright? Sige.
And other tips or other miscellaneous tips na lang is visit your testing center. Before kayong mag-take ng exam or mag-UPCAT, kailangan na bisipan nyo na kung saan kayong mag-exam. Para makaprepare kayo. Umuulan ba sa venue? Meron bang aircon para malaman nyo kung magja-jacket or magpapayong ba kayo?
Nasaan dun yung CR? At meron ba kayong restaurants na makakainan? And even yung parking. Kung magdadala kayo ng car, alam nyo dapat kung saan kayo magpapark.
And very important is, as much as possible, try. Try to minimize yung use nyo ng social media. And if pwede nga, deactivate na muna natin habang nagre-review tayo for the OOPCAT.
Okay? And yun, one of the last tips, rest if you are tired. Hindi pwedeng ipagmayabang natin na, ay, napuyet ako kasi kaka-review. Diba, siguro sa high school, very cool na sabihin yun. Pero in reality talaga, kayo natulog, kaka-review.
Dapat, habang nagreview kayo for the OOPCAT, you are at your healthiest self. And lastly, I would like to share this quote, one of my favorite quotes by Jonathan Yabot. So basahin natin.
Here's the reality. Being inspired doesn't happen every day. You will have days when you just don't want to do anything and yet you need to move. That's when discipline enters the picture.
And many times, the discipline outlasts the inspired. So anong ibig sabihin na ito? Diba may mga araw tayo na feeling natin, ay, very motivated ako ngayon.
Siguro after this session, diba, sobrang motivated niyo mag-aral for the UPCAT. Pero the real challenge is kaya niyo bang i-maintain yung motivation na yun or kaya niyo bang disciplinahin yung sarili niyo para maging consistent even one month, two months, three months after this until mag-UPCAT. Kaya niyo bang i-maintain yung same level of dedication niyo hanggang mag-take.
na kayo ng exam. That is the real challenge talaga. And that's it.
Yun na yung opening remarks ko. I think marami sa inyong hindi nag-expect na mapapasolve kayo sa mga problems na binigay ko. Pero yun, again, I am Victor Villafuerte. If you want to reach out, ito yung mga social media platforms ko at Instagram at VJM Villafuerte and at YouTube at Kipap Education.
Alright, thank you so much, Engineer Victor. Hindi namin in-expect na may math, but we're here for it. Sobrang daming natutunan. I'm sure maraming natutunan na kahit konting tips and tricks yung mga nanonood sa atin ngayon. And for some vibe check, guys, piktignan natin kung nakikinig pa ba ang lahat.
Can you guys type in K-pop study buddy? sa ating comment section para makita namin kung I believe may mga nagsasabing naglalag eh. So can we um check that please?
Type in KIPAP study buddy. Yes? Sige.
Ayan. So again thank you so much Engineer Victor. Um without further ado let's now proceed to our second speaker of the day. I am honored to welcome you Ms. Sachika Azuni Sagisa.
She is the viral BS Chemical Engineering student. from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, who earned guys a flat 1 in her first two semesters in UP. It was so hard to do because I couldn't do it during my time. So Ms. Ashika is really good, it's so hard to get a flat 1 in UP.
So 2020, she is a UCAT Passer. She is currently in BS Chemical Engineering and graduating with suma standing. Grabe. She'll share her top study tips and strategies and has been an inspiration to many through her work and dedication.
Let's give her a big virtual round of applause, Ms. Chika Azuni-Sagisa. Hello, good evening. Grabe naman talaga yung introduction na yun. Thank you.
Thank you for having me here. I am glad that I have this opportunity to Hopefully, help the attendees pass the UPGAT. Okay, so my presentation is just three slides actually. I condensed it so I won't be late for the next slide, please. So I divided my presentation into three.
So what to do way before the exam, the day right before the exam, and during the exam. So next slide, please. Is this my slide deck?
Next slide, please. So, way before the UPCAT, these are my study tips. So, first of all, time yourself while practicing.
Yung UPCAT ay nakadivide into four subtests. So, may math, science, language, and reading comprehension. So, per subtest, may time limit yun. For example, sa math, sabihin natin, 60 items in 75 minutes.
So roughly, like, 1 minute per question, right? 1 minute 15 seconds. So when you're practicing, try it for 1 minute only. Like, so you can get used to it. And also, if I'm not mistaken, you can't return the sub-test.
So if you're done with time for math, you can't return it. So you can't carry over the time that's left in one sub-test to another sub-test. Okay, so second. Build endurance.
When studying, try to do long study sessions because I believe that UPCUT is an endurance test. It's not super hard. It's just very long.
You'll get tired and there are no breaks. So make it a point that you're used to focusing for a long period of time. So moving on to the third tip, practice active recall and do daily drills. Bye-bye!
There are terms or equations that you need to memorize. So I'm not saying familiarize, okay? Because you might say that you're not familiar with the exam. So you can flashcards if you want. Personally, I like Quizlet.
Then I look at the cards throughout the day when I commute or have business in the CR. So you can try that. Now my fourth tip is very important. answer mock exams. Keep up na ang bahala sa inyo dito.
Mag-register na kayo. Charlat, nag-plug pa talaga. And so pala, I think if ever you end up cramming kasi you know, life happens, my advice would be to answer mock exams na agad. This is what I did kasi if I remember correctly, may pasok pa kami nun when we took the UPCAT. So, medyo busy ako nun kasi graduating nga.
I can't go to a review center anymore because it's the last time. So what I did was, I bought a booklet for college entrance exams, like generally. So it's not specifically for UKAT, but it's like a mock exam for college entrance exams. So I answered all of them. And if I found a question that I really don't know how to solve, that's the topic I'm searching for on YouTube.
And if there's a question, I think it's in the comments. Okay, I can do this. I'm not studying it anymore. So by doing this, you'll get to know where you're weak and you've practiced.
Because with the little time you have, you need to focus on topics that you really don't have. But your bottom line is, don't cram. Okay? Okay. So last tip for this section, practice without a calculator.
Self-explanatory because it's not allowed to calculate in the UKAD. Okay, ayun lang naman. So let's go to what you should do the day right before the exam.
Okay, so next slide, please. Okay, so first tip, of course, prepare everything the night before. So, get your bag ready. Your test permit, valid ID, your pen, water, scratch paper, and whatever you need.
Also, plan your outfit. Something comfortable. This is not the day to dress to impress.
Okay, it's right to wear a Roblox. And don't wear a hoodie. Because, like, just the hoodie. Because you can't take it off in case it's hot.
So, just a shirt. Tapos jacket. Para depende na lang sa test venue. Also related to that, as mentioned by Victor kanina, check mo na rin kung saan yung test venue, tapos how to get there, and how long the travel will take. Huwag kang magpalate talaga.
Your mood will be affected kung umaga pa lang nagpapanik ka na. I was actually medyo late kasi nga nagkakramp ako the morning before. Literally, I studied two days before the test, tapos nagkramp 4 a.m.
So ayun, I was all over the place. Huwag niyong gawin. Tapos, Don't cram na.
Have faith in yourself. Napahamag pa ako nito dati kasi mas nalito pa tuloy ako. Kasi di ko naman na-internalize yung kinakram ko.
So, ayun. Ayun lang. And also, instead of cramming, matulog ka.
Ulit-ulit sinasabi, pero important kasi talaga to. I know it's very nerve-wracking, pero kahit pikit ka lang, kung di ka talaga makatulog, just close your eyes. Skåse deba!
Like, minsan, if we think na di tayo makakatulog, ay talagang di tayo makakatulog niyan. So ako, iniisip ko lang na makatulog man or hindi, the time will pass anyway. So I'd rather allow my brain to rest and close my eyes. Parang that mindset relaxes me and nakakatulog naman ako eventually. So huwag i-pressure ang sarili.
Makatulog ka man or hindi, you will be there. So relax lang. Deadma muna sa kaliknay tok mo.
And call mo na yun, Bucks. Charm. So the next tip, as I've said, wala itong breaks.
So bring snacks na hindi mahirap kainin. Ayaw mo naman kumain ng mais dun, diba? Talagang angat ka din, diba? And I actually also don't recommend yung greasy chips kasi magta-transfer yun sa paper mo and it's just really hard to manage.
And baka matapon pa siya. And more importantly, maingay. Ang tahimik sa testing center.
Like, madidistract hindi lamang ikaw, kundi yung katabi mo rin. You can even use it for notes. Maybe something small like protein bars in case you don't have space. Because our testing center before, if I remember correctly, it was just an armchair.
So keep that in mind. Lastly, bring a watch. Some people were reminded that they only have a few minutes left. But there's no clock that counts down.
I mean, at least in our time. It might help if you have a watch. But don't hyperfixate there. Baka tingin ko lang nang tingin sa oras. So, ayun.
Let's go to the third section. Next slide, please. Ito na. Test-taking strategies.
Ito lang naman talaga hinihingi sa akin. Medyo madal na. Pero, ayun. Organize your scratch paper.
If ever you need na balikan yung isang question, hindi mo na kailangan pang hanapin. Diyos ko po. Lagyan mo lang talaga ng number.
Put a label. Char. Now, this next tip is very well known.
Skip the hard questions. When you read the question, then you know right away that you don't know how to solve it. Or if you find that you're taking too long to solve it, skip it.
And don't dwell too much because time is a waste. But do not do this when reading comprehension. because the passage changes.
So, you'll read it again when you return it. So, take an educated guess. Mark the questions that you're not sure about so you can return it if you have time. I don't remember if you can write the questionnaire.
But if ever you don't, just list it on your scratch paper. And my next tip is to back-solve. Especially if you don't know how to solve it.
plug in your choices. There you go. Very self-explanatory. And then, tapos, kapag reading comprehension naman, read the questions first. So, you will know ano yung hinahanap mo while reading.
Ang haba-habang yung binabasa mo, tapos, di mo alam mo yung detail yung hinahanap mo. So, read the questions first para alam mo what you're looking for. Lastly, sagutan mo lahat.
Ang upkat, That is, as mentioned by Victor, right minus wrong. But you still have to answer all of them because it's only minus 0.25 if you're wrong. Like, statistically, it's better if you answer all of them because of the four choices, right?
You have a chance of getting one whole point. And then, of the remaining three, it's only minus 0.75. So, like, you have a chance of getting 0.25. But, as I've said, make an educated guess.
That's really what you should do first. Then, if you really don't know, like, you have an idea, do the laser technique. Choose a letter that you will choose if you don't know the answer.
So, C for Christ. Don't be random because there's a higher chance that if all C's, you'll get the right answer. So, stick to one letter.
So, that was my last tip. But, just some closing notes. Maybe, change your mindset.
When I'm studying, I don't burden myself with I should finish all of this. So, it's not like that. If you start laying out all of what you should study, you'll just get stressed out because there's so much.
Because the reality is, there's a lot. So, my mindset is, it's okay if I don't finish this. But if I study just a bit more, I'd have a higher chance of passing.
So, just do what you can with your time. Don't be under the pressure that you should... 100%. Also, if you do end up cramming, kasi nga life happens, don't waste your time regretting why you didn't start sooner.
Wala ka na magagawa dun. Best thing to do is start now. So if, like kung may pasok pa kayo ngayon, do your best in school. Think of it like hitting two birds with one stone kasi tataas na grades nyo, nakapag-aral pa kayo for UPCAT. Kasi yung UPCAT ay hindi lang naman based sa test.
score mo. Kasama na dun yung high school grades. So do your best to bump up your grades kasi kasama yun sa UPG mo. Okay. So ayun lang.
Thank you so much for listening. I hope you learned something from me. Ayan. Thank you so much Ms. Sachika and I know for sure sobrang daming naka...
relate din sa preparation ni Ms. Sachika and also gusto ko yung sinabi din niya na guys, if hindi pa kayo nagre-review, don't waste your time worrying na hindi pa ko nagre-review, wala pa akong naaaral kasi counterproductive. Up next, our second speaker for tonight, I am honored to welcome you, Samantha DeRay. She was the consistent rank one back in junior high school. she's also a consistent um so Students with high honors from grades 9 to 12 graduated as the first honorable mention.
Associate Editor of the Escolar Ariander Student Publication won first place in both the District-Level Schools Press Conference and Division Schools Press Conference 2025 under the Science Writing English. Entrance examinations she qualified are UPCAT, WOW, PLM admission test, USTET, and PUP college entrance test. Now let's give her a virtual round of applause, Samantha DeRai. Hello, my test.
I hope I'm audible on your end. Good evening everyone, I am Samantha Deray, a graduate of Central Escalar Integrated School. First of all, thank you to everyone who made this event and this opportunity possible, especially to Mr. Victor Villafuerte. And I'm assuming that a lot of people watching right now are preparing for the UPGAT and are feeling sort of nervous and a tad excited.
Well, you're not alone because the UPGAT is one of the most challenging entrance examinations in the country. But with the right mindset and smart strategies, I'm pretty sure that anyone can conquer it. So today, I would be sharing some tips using the acronym ISCOLAR, designed to simplify the discussion and to help you approach the upgat like a true scholar in the bayan, scholar ng bayan in the making.
Some of the pieces of advice that I would be saying have already been mentioned before so I would just be reiterating them and mind you that these are focused on the test-taking scenario on itself. So diving deeper into the word Starting with letter I, initiate focus. So I'm pretty sure that some of you are already nervous, especially those who haven't reviewed yet.
And I feel you guys because I was like that before. The moment you sit down to take the exam, a lot of things pop up in your mind, especially doubts. But know that you shouldn't rush.
Take at least 5 to 15 seconds to fix yourself, to center yourself. But you can close your eyes, take a deep breath, drink water, and remind yourself that you're ready for this. You've prepared.
You've got this. And you'll become a scholar of the nation. Because focus is one of the essential foundations that you need during the test-taking itself.
It's easy to get distracted by external factors like ticking of the clock, the other test-takers flipping their pages rapidly. But remember, Okay. The only person you're competing against is yourself. So here's a tip. Kung kabado kang person, try to practice how to calm yourself.
Some mindfulness techniques weeks before the test. Take at least five to six minutes a day to help improve your ability to focus under pressure. Next is S, which stands for skip then return. So one of the biggest traps in a timed exam like the OPACAT, is spending too long on one difficult question.
So if you come across a problem that is kind of overwhelming, a bit too complex for you, skip it without guilt. Mark it mentally so you can find it again later and move on to the next question you can answer more quickly. Focus on the items that are more answerable, more familiar for you. Because that would help you maximize your score potential.
Because like what they said, remember? Every easy question you leave unanswered to wrestle with a hard one is a missed opportunity. Related to letter S is K, know how to guess.
Guessing in its entirety is not that bad, especially if you partner it with data, with facts. It's simply strategic, if you ask me. If you're really unsure, just make sure to not leave an item blank. before finishing the subtest. Eliminate obviously wrong choices and make educated guesses through looking at the keywords, context clues, and the likes.
And through those, you can often narrow it down to two options. And even if you're still completely clueless, try your best to guess. Kasi nga kaya na sabi nila, a random guess is still statistically better than no answer at all.
So during your review sessions, practice elimination techniques beforehand, especially for the things like language or reading comprehension. You should know which to cross out, the choices that don't fit the tone, the context, or the logic. Next is letter O, which stands for observe the patterns. So standardized exams often include recurring questions like structures, predictable formats, and logical answer sequences, but there are subtle patterns that can help you.
In reading comprehension, observe how the author builds the argument, how he or she builds the story. In math, if you notice numbers being reused or answers hovering around a specific range, those may offer clues. In science, look at the units and formulas because sometimes the way a question is structured already nudges you toward the correct solution.
And just a reminder, don't blindly follow answer patterns like choosing. all C. I'm also really guilty of that. Most of the time, I do choose C because it stands for Christ or Christ is always correct.
But if something looks strange or quite repetitive, then take a moment to re-evaluate. Letter L stands for listen to logic. So, is a bearable examination for those who can think clearly and not just memorize facts. Logical reasoning and understanding are your secret weapons.
So when it comes to language proficiency, it's often really underestimated, but it can be one of your highest scoring areas if you prepare well. It tests grammar, vocabulary, and the likes, not just rules, but also how natural the sentence sounds. So build your vocabulary by understanding root words and affixes. Pag naman sa Filipino, be ready for deep words and old expressions that aren't.
often used in casual conversations. Personally, having an English to Filipino dictionary really helped me. I reviewed one to two words each per day, which I quite allotted maybe five minutes or so in familiarizing myself with those. It really helps me answer questions relating to synonyms or antonyms. For grammar spotting, trust your ears, no?
Because sometimes you may not recall the rule, but your instinct will tell you what sounds right. Then look for clues in sentence arrangement or sequencing, like una, pagkatapos, kaya, gayunpaman, and identify which idea must come first. or which sentence gives the conclusion.
Then study proper use of Filipino articles like Nang versus Danang na Mahaba, Mai versus Meron, Rin versus Din. So don't underestimate this section, especially Filipino, just because we speak it daily because it can be just as tricky as English so it deserves your full attention. When it comes to reading comprehension, It demands not only a good foundation in language proficiency, but also speed and strategy.
So a good habit is to skim with purpose. Always read the question first, then look at the first and last sentences of each paragraph of the structure, and then scan the middle portion for some keywords. Then when answering, always watch out for tricky choices.
Let's say the wrong answers may sometimes be too specific, too broad. or too long. Learn how to eliminate by confidently asking, does this actually answer the question? And most importantly, read a lot during your preparation. So improve your speed and understanding.
I said the more comfortable you are with reading under time pressure, the more confident you'll be on the test day. For mathematics, a lot may feel intimidated by this, but most of the questions, I assure you, are rooted in basic concepts. The challenge really lies on how often they're presented. So don't worry about solving too complex equations.
Instead, focus on accuracy and efficiency that rely on everyday logic. One of the best ways that I use because I also am not fond of mathematics. So during my review sessions, I use the Gresham method.
It helped me really break down word problems by identifying what's given, what's required. the equation that's needed, the solution, and the final answer. Also, don't be afraid to estimate.
Approximation can be a powerful time saver when the answer choices are spread out. And in problems with answer choices, back-solving is a friend. Plug the options into the question and see which one works, starting from the middle choice to save time.
Then, don't forget to keep an eye on the clock. If a question is taking too long, again, skip and return later. For science, it isn't about memorizing every detail, it's rather about understanding how ideas connect.
Visualizing processes can help, whether it's imagining how pulleys reduce force or sketching an electric circuit in your head. When facing experiments or setups, try to mentally picture what's happening. Get used to interpreting diagrams, food chains, data tables, and charts, since many questions are based on these visuals. If you can reason through, you're already halfway there. For the second to the last letter, which is A, stands for allocate time to rest.
Yes, your preparation is important and so is your test taking performance, but so is your mental and physical energy. Don't cram the night or hours before the exam. You have to sleep well, eat a good but not too heavy breakfast and arrive early. During the exam itself, use your mini breaks wisely. When you finish a section early, close your eyes for a second, stretch your fingers, take a deep breath, because that short reset can clear your head for the next section.
Warning, don't burn yourself out. Because overworking yourself before the test, personally, it can lead to brain fog and making illogical mistakes. Lastly is letter R, which stands for rethink, not overthink.
When reviewing your answers, and you should definitely if time permits, do so calmly and with clarity. Don't change an answer just because you're nervous because usually your first instincts are often right. Only change an answer if you realize you made a clear mistake or you misunderstood a question or the instructions.
So avoid obsessing over one question and finish reviewing what you can. So with these iskolai tips and of course kipat, you're not just preparing for the okat, you're already preparing to excel. Hopefully each strategy helps you to balance speed, accuracy, and confidence.
So as a recap, we have to scholar, initiate focus, skip then return, know how to guess, observe patterns, allocate time to rest, and rethink not overthink. And a few more reminders. If you're like me, who listen somewhat and believe to the pamahiin, lalo na yung pagtatasa ng pencil, usually kasi ginagawa natin yun, pinapatasa natin sa mga taong nakapasa na sa universities na gusto rin natin makapasok. Pero ako, as advised by a senior of mine, ang ginawa ko, tinasahan ko yung sarili kong pencil.
Kasi parang it's sort of a way, parang manifestation na ay nakapasa na ako. So pwede na akong magpasa ng pencil. Ganon.
And remember, getting into your dream university isn't just about being prepared. So if hindi ganon kataasin yung grades mo during high school, huwag kang masyadong kabahan. Huwag masyadong i-down yung sarili mo.
It's about being prepared and composed. And if you really want to get into UP, don't treat it as a pre-test for other examinations. So take your review session seriously because we don't want regrets later on. So hopefully as you walk into the examination room, carry these tips with you. But more importantly, carry trust and belief in yourself.
Have faith in yourself, faith in your knowledge and preparation and faith in God. Hopefully, you tell yourself that you've worked hard for this. And now, I urge you to go and ace the test on August.
Thank you. All right. Thank you so much, Samantha. I'm sure that all of those who are listening to us on Facebook have really learned some tips and strategies.
Thank you so much for sharing those with us. Ang gusto ko lang ding reiterate is guys, rest is really important. Huwag tayong dumating sa point na burnout na tayo bago pa tayong mag-review or during, especially during exam.
So take rest as much as possible. Take these tips na binigay ng ating mga speakers sa pag-review nyo sa journey nyo ngayon sa OCOT. See you na sa ating next portion and last portion ng ating program. we will now entertain questions from our audience on Facebook Live.
That's you guys, the ones who commented on joining GC. If you guys have any questions, you can ask questions now for Engineer Victor, for Sachika, or for Samantha. So if you have questions, feel free to ask them now.
Let's read it in our comment section. Okay, let's just wait for a couple of minutes because there's a slight delay. I think this question is for Ms. Yeng.
Someone asked here, Asli Carl, is the discount still available until tomorrow? Yes, hello Ms. Ali. The discount for enrolling in the K-pop program, yes, it's still available.
It is still open for everyone as long as you are registered participants. We will still give you a discount. And then, it also says here, sir, when the 2K is down, until when will the remaining balance be paid?
So the question is how many months can you pay? I believe there are 4 months but we will confirm to our K-pop team. But I believe yes, you have 4 months to pay.
Sorry, I think 2 months to pay. Just before the review program ends, you should already have paid of course. So... whole entirety ng inyong payment. Yes.
Okay. So regarding ito sa one take lang po ba sa MAC test, yung MAC test ba to doon sa aming program, yung mismo program namin ay meron kaming dalawang MAC test na ibigay. So yung una, may MAC test kami, and then meron in the middle.
i didiscuss yun ng instructors and then after that meron ulit kami ibigay ng another set ng math test okay doon pero um para kung ngayon since naghihintay pa tayo dito sa aming pre-upcut review meron na kami in-order ng math test nga sa mga in drawlist sa mga registered participants natin okay and one take lang yun na ibigay yung sa mga test namin Mayroon din tayong question. Pwede po itong sagotin ni Engineer Victor or ni Sachika and sa Amanda. Mayroon ditong question. Any tips po for someone na mahina sa math kahit anong gawin? Hello?
Yan. Tips? Tama ba yung question is tips para sa mahina sa math? Kahit anong gawin daw po. Okay.
Generally, ang tip talaga na mabibigay ko is just to practice. Familiarize yourself with a lot of questions, starting from the basics muna. So start ka sa level kung saan naiintindihan mo pa, and then work your way up to more difficult questions. Ngayon, if you say na, yun nga. na hirapan ka kahit anong gawin mo.
Try to find someone na siguro kakilala mo, friend mo, na nakapasa sa UPCAT before or even yung mga friends mo sa school. Try to ask for their help. And yun, hopefully, makakatulong sila sa inyo sa pagpapractice yun ng mga problems. So yun, practice and ask for help. Yun yung magbigay kong tip.
Thank you, Engineer Victor. Our next question is, it could be Chico or Sam because they recently took up up-cut. Someone asked here, what is the hardest up-cut subject that you encountered during your up-cut? And what are the tips that you can give to them when they encounter such a hard thing?
subjects. Hello? Sam?
I'll just answer. For me, I would have to say math because it's really long. And I don't think I finished it. I think I had like two items left that I didn't solve because I simply had no time. So my tip is, there you go, time yourself when you're practicing so you can get used to it faster.
And don't dwell on the difficult questions. pagkakita mo sa question, di mo na agad alam, di mo na recognize yung pattern. Wag mo nang tagalan doon.
Move on to the next question. There you mark it. Tapos, when you're studying, try mong mag-YouTube more than textbooks kasi para mas guided.
But also, don't just watch. Mag-solve ka rin by yourself. Thank you, Sachika.
Ayan. Meron ding nagtanong dito na. how will we access the learning materials po? So, ako na rin sasagot na ito.
Actually, once you've enrolled sa aming portal, you will be sent or emailed an onboarding email and meron na agad doon, like, real-time. Pagka bayad nyo sa aming portal, masasagot na kayo within minutes ng onboarding email. Tapos, nandun na agad yung instructions how to access the learning materials. So you learn... Our materials can be accessed through our app.
or through the K-PAP LMS. So, andun na talaga lahat. Like, comprehensive learning materials, nandun na din talaga yung mga assessments, anything you need, video lectures, everything is in there. Tapos, on top of accessing our learning materials, meron pa kayong access sa live lectures.
So, sulit talaga guys yung 5,999. Okay. Mayroon ding question dito.
Bawal po ba gumamit ng calculator during exam? Bawal po for any college entrance test exam. Next question is, so next week lang po yung free, the rest of June po kailangan na po ng bayad. Maybe Ms. Yeng can answer this.
Hello? Yes, no? Review is for May lang po yan, yung schedule again for last two weeks, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. Pero starting for June, live lecture po talaga tayo noon, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. May buy it po siya.
Hindi lang siya live lecture, mas intense discussion doon kasi meron tayong recorded videos. We have materials, free tests, post-test, and other materials. You can also have a personal connection with our instructors. You can ask them directly the questions that you want to get.
Okay, so yes, sin po yung...
Okay? Okay. Thank you so much, Ms. Yeng.
Siguro last. couple of questions na lang. Merong nag-ask, how po malaman ang shortcuts for math problems?
Actually, ako na yung sasagot dito. This is one of the things na tinuturo talaga namin sa video lectures namin, sa live lectures, sa handouts. Yung mga shortcuts for math problems. So, kapag may discussion, right on, binidiscuss na rin ng mga instructors namin kung paano mas mapapadali or ano yung shortcut.
for this specific type of question, sa math. Actually, meron din kami shortcuts na, shortcuts na tinuturo sa mga physics, sa chemistry as well. So, galing talaga yung mga shortcuts namin sa mga instructors.
Okay. Meron. Nagtanong, saan po pwede magbayad? Pwede kayong pumunta sa portal.kipap.com. We will send over the link here in the comment section.
Let's just take a look. There is also a code that we will show later. There is also a question here on your portal. So later, we will show the link and the vote.
And we can also comment. Alright. Okay.
Sige. Yes, guys. Sobrang daming questions. I love it. Keep them coming.
May nagtanong dito, pwede po ba magdala ng water bottle, I believe, during the exam? Yes. Pwede magdala ng water bottle, pwede magdala ng sinigang, kung yun yung gusto nyong kainin.
Basta make sure na you keep your space clean and hindi distracting yung kakainin nyo. for other students who are taking exams. Okay, let's see.
There's a question here, how many months is the review? The review starts now until July. But guys, one of the good things when you guys enroll in K-pop is that you have one year access.
That's why some of our students, yung previous batch namin, is nagagamit din nila to sa grade 12 nila na mga subjects. So, sobrang useful talaga niya. Hindi lang siya, hindi nyo lang magagamit yung materials namin sa...
college entrance test but even in grade 12 you can use it. So definitely, it's really worth it. Okay, I think we only have 2 questions left. The mode of payment, someone is asking. Ms. Adeline, I think we accept Gcash.
you can pay through GCash. And there are also specific cards that we also accept. Yes, so aside from GCash, guys, our biggest suggestion is to enroll in our portal. Again, that's portal. kipop.com kasi if you guys enroll there um mabibigyan na kayo agad ng access ay ng instructions how to access the learning materials so after nyo magpay may on may onboarding email na agad na isa-send sa inyo within minutes of paying and dun yung lalaman yung instructions how to access our LMS and also our community group we also have community group so dun yung open chat line natin Okay, Ms. Yang, do you have any other questions for our viewers?
Maybe the last one about the study tips, we can ask them again, Sir Victor, Ms. Chica, and Samantha. So what do you suggest for studying? Should I focus on one subject until it is done? or alternate between subjects?
I think I can answer this first. Ang sagot ko dito is it depends talaga on what works for you. Sa akin, personally, mas gusto ko na structured yung aking pagre-review.
That means hindi ako mag-move on sa next subject without first finishing yung inaaral ko or yung inaaral ko. Kasi kapag, kunyari, palipat-lipat ka ng subject, it parang may chaos sa pagre-review nyo and maguguluhan yung isip mo para may sense of structure ka, I recommend na tapusin mo muna yung nga-review before moving on to the next topic. Okay.
Ayan. Sige. Last question na din siguro, on top of tips, how does right minus wrong in UPCAT work daw po?
Okay, yung right minus wrong sa UPCAT, I think pwede natin bigyan ng illustration siya. Pwede ba ako makapag-draw dito? Meron bang ano? Merong draw ba dito? Pero wala no?
Annotation. Okay, I'll just share screen with annotation. Wait. I'll pull up my share screen first.
Okay. So, let's just write here. Wait.
Do we have a blank page? Okay. Sorry. Let's explain the right and wrong of cut.
So, to keep things simple, let's say we have five questions. Let's say the op... So, upcat has only 5 questions. So, let's just make 4 questions in upcat.
Then, there. So, in upcat, there are 4 questions. You're right here, you're right there, you're right there. But you're wrong in the last question.
Your final score would be 3 because you got 3 points, minus 1 fourth of your mistake. So, 1 fourth times 1. So, ilan yan? 3 minus 1 fourth, this is 2.75 na.
Yun. So, ang magiging final score mo would be 2.75. Kapag naman ang nangyari ay, again, first three questions, tama ka. Pero yung last question mo, you leave it blank. Okay?
Nileave mo as blank. Then, ang magiging score mo would be, yung three points na nakuha mo, walang magiging deduction yun. kasi na leave mo as blank yung last question. So, hindi ka madi-deduct ng one-fourth point. Okay.
So, siguro ang iisipin nyo, eh di kung ganun, kapag meron akong question na hindi sure, huwag ko nalang sagutan. Diba, i-leave ko nalang as blank. Mas mataas pa yung makukuha kong score eh.
Pero, ang recommendation pa rin talaga namin is do not leave any questions blank. Bakit? Kasi, mas malaki ang point na makukuha mo from a correct answer.
kaysa sa deduction na makukuha mo from a wrong answer. Or in other words, mas malaki ang reward sa risk. Ibig sabihin din nun kapag kunyari sa mga hula nyo, meron kayong mga nakukuhang tama, kayo kakailanganin ng apat na maling sagot para makancel out yung isang hula nyo. Diba, gets?
So, ibig sabihin nun, the reward outweighs the risk. And so, I still recommend that you don't leave any questions blank. I hope my explanation makes sense.
Thank you so much, Sir Victor. For those who have questions, we have a free OOPCAT review that's one week long. So, let's stay for the first day.
For those who have questions, you guys can definitely ask them. for the remainder of our days for the free OOPCUT review. But again, thank you so much, Engineer Victor. Thank you to Chika and thank you, Sam, for joining us here for our day one of the free OOPCUT review.
