what's up guys welcome back to another Moto Academy master class this episode is how to accelerate while standing up this position can easily be practiced on your bike stationary on a stand in the garage so if it's getting cold you're going into your offseason don't be afraid to try to practice some muscle memory with that bike on the stand so you have your basic attack position which is very neutral but what people have to remember is that we have our acceleration version of that attack position we also have a breaking version of the the attack position so the difference with your accelerating position is we have to account for the force wanting to pull us off the back of the bike so anytime you go to twist the throttle and accelerate you need to make sure that your head is coming forward accordingly to offset that Force pulling you off the rear couple key things to keep in mind here you're still going to be on the balls of your feet and the knees still have to stay on top of the foot pegs this is the really difficult part because you're going to feel that stretch in your calves your hamst strings the entire back of your leg when you keep those knees back I'm going to hinge at the hips the best I can this is not a position where I thrust everything forward this would be a common mistake where the head comes forward but the whole lower body goes with it instead I'm just going to hinge forward at the hips drive my chest and my head to the front of the bike and I tell you what this feels super awkward and uncomfortable stiff rigid all of the uncomfortable adjectives when you're stationary but if you can do it with a bike on a stand at home start to get the idea of dropping back down into a braking position driving forward into the attack position uh accelerating position then as soon as you get on the bike and you're moving it's going to start to make a lot more sense one thing you'll also notice is when I come forward with my head and I'm accelerating my legs are not at full lockout but they're darn close to it so acceler ating equals straight leg decelerating is going to equal bent leg again one of the common mistakes I would see is the rider that learns the attack position but then is just basically stuck in a static attack position and doesn't move within it if you if you're that guy you're always going to experience the falling off at the back of the bike and you're going to experience the caving over the front of the bike as you break and decelerate so bike stationary just get really comfortable with head forward head coming back head forward head coming back and you can study the videos inside of the Moto Academy app Study Supercross study Motocross on TV and notice when those guys accelerate hard and they're standing watch how far forward their head goes [Music]
