tension noro thorax tension Nomo thorax is a lifethreatening condition in which air leaks outside of the lung and the air is trapped between the plural and the lung this is a simple anatomy of the lung you can see the right and the left lung you can see the trachea you can see the blue and this is the plural cavity enion Nemo thorax comes up frequently on exams it is a medical emergency air leaks outside of the lung into the plural cavity the air is traed between the plural and the lung you can see here the air is within the plural cavity that air in the plural cavity can't ex it this condition prevents expansion of that lung and its oxygenation this condition will lead to hypoxia and cardiopulmonary collapse the patient will have acute unilateral chest pain with disia respiratory distress tebia and techic cardia the patient will also have unilateral decreased or absent breath sounds here there's a representation of the normal lung and representation of the collapsed lung where you can't hear breath sounds as air pushes against the lung it deviates the trachea to the other side treatment needle decompression insert the needle at the second intercostal space mid clavicular line followed by insertion of a chest tube thank you very much I hope that was helpful
