mucosal protectant so mechanism of action this acts locally not systemically okay it adheres to the gastric mucosa um so if a patient had an ulcer it basically binds to the ulcer or that erosion surface so what it does is basically forms a protective barrier it's thought of as basically a protective band-aid and that's basically their role so therapeutic effects it's going to help decrease heartburn and pain symptoms precautions we got to be careful because it could possibly decrease absorption of other drugs so this one in particular they'd want to take that other medication or their other medications two hours ahead okay so whenever they're just the time is set to take this class of medication they need to take their other medicines two hours before okay contraindications would be if they had allergy side effects or constipation and nausea and the nursing actions we want to assess concurrent drug administration right so what else are they taking and then um drug example the drug example or prototype you would need to remember is silker fate sulker fate is best given one hour before meals and at bedtime and that's just nice to know info okay nothing that i want you to have to remember for testing but when you look this medication up you'll see that the indication or best time or for administration would be one hour before meals and at bedtime
