Exploring Ants and Dinosaurs

Hi, welcome back to Madam English YouTube channel. Today, we are going to listen some report texts. The reports will be delivered by two students at Madam English School. They have done the research and observation before. And today, they will present the reports of their observation. Please listen to the reports carefully. After that, answer the questions based on the reports. You can repeat this listening test twice. Now, let's begin the listening test. Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I'm Lucy, the representative of Group 1. Today, I'm going to present my group report about ants. Ants have more than 12,000 species, most of which live in the tropics. Some types of ants that are well known to humans are black ants, carpenter ants, red ants, fire ants, and weaver ants. Most ants are known as social insects. Because they form colonies and their regular nest have thousands of ants per colony. One colony can control a large area to support their lives. Colony members are divided into worker ants, male ants and queen ant. It is also possible to have guard ant group. The queen ant is in charge of reproducing and is highly upheld by the members. The queen ant can live up to 20 years old. All worker ants are females, but they do not produce eggs. They devote themselves to taking care of the eggs of the queen. The most important thing worker ants'jobs are to serve the queen, and ensure that the queen and her babies are safe. In contrast, to the queen with her long age to live, male ants have shorter life. Their only duty when they are adults is to marry the young ant queen. Male ants usually die two weeks after marrying the ant queen. Well, that's the report about ants from group 1. Thank you. Now, listen to the questions based on the first report you have heard. Question number 1. What is the report about? Question number 2. What are the types of ants? Question number 3. Why are ants called as social insects? Question number 4. Who are the members of one ant colony? Question number 5. What are the worker ants'jobs? Now, listen to the second report. Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I'm Steve from group 2. Today, I will present my group report about dinosaurs. Dinosaur consists of various groups of animals from different morphology, taxonomy, and ecology. Generally, it is divided into avian dinosaurs, birds form, and non-avian dinosaurs, all other dinosaurs. It is believed that they were first appeared in the Triassic period, about 230 million years ago. They are already extinct, but we can still learn about them through their fossils. Some of dinosaur are herbivore, and the rest are carnivore. Even though most of them has huge body, but there are also some dinosaur with small body, for example a raptor. There is also a type of dinosaur which considered to be the tallest animal of all time, with a body height of 14 meters tall, and the name is Brachiosaurus. Some groups of dinosaur developed skeletal modification and bony armor. They have lizard-like type of skin, this is the reason why some people also consider them to be a giant lizards. Most of dinosaur will travel in group rather than alone. They also tend to build nests and live together with their group. Well, that's all the report from Group 2. Thank you for your attention. Now, please answer the questions based on the second report you have heard. Question number 6. What is the second report about? Question number 7. How can we learn about dinosaurs? Question number 8.
