NTA (National Testing Agency)

  • Establishment: November 2017, under the Ministry of Education
  • Purpose: To bring quality and transparency, and to conduct various types of exams.
  • Motive:
    • Standardization and streamlining
    • Becoming a self-sustaining agency
    • Use of online and modern technology
  • Headquarters: New Delhi
  • Registration: Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860
  • Major Exams: JEE, NET, NEET UG, CMAT, UGC NET, etc.
  • Motto: Excellence in Assessment

NEET Exam (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test)

  • Purpose:
    • Entrance exam for medical courses
  • Participation: 24 lakh students (in 2024)
  • Seats: 1,08,000 medical seats (government and private)
  • NEET 2024 results:
    • 67 candidates achieved a perfect score (720/720).
    • 67 people were ranked 1, which was suspicious.

Major Issues in NEET Exam

  1. Paper leak
  2. Unusual perfect scores: 67 candidates achieving a score of 720.
  3. Grace marks issue:
    • Claim of granting grace marks to 1563 students
    • Grace marks due to discrepancies between old and new NCERT answer keys.
  4. Cheating allegations:
    • Stories of passing the exam by paying 10 lakh rupees.

Supreme Court Decision

  • On June 23, permission for retest for 1563 candidates.
  • Instruction to continue the counseling process.
  • Next hearing on July 8, 2024.
