Muscle Energy Technique for Hamstring Group

Steps to Perform the Technique

  1. Patient Positioning

    • Take patient into hip flexion.
  2. Finding the Tissue Bond

    • Look for the first point of resistance, not the full stretch.
    • This is the starting point of the technique.
  3. Contraction Phase

    • Patient pushes heel down towards the table.
    • Use about 20% of their maximum contraction.
    • Duration: Hold for 7 to 10 seconds.
  4. Relaxation Phase

    • After 7 to 10 seconds, patient relaxes.
    • Move the patient further into hip flexion.
  5. Repetition

    • Repeat contraction and relaxation phases.
    • Typically 3 to 5 times or until no further range of motion is gained.
