good morning welcome to the contemporary world and um today we'll be discussing about the global south kamusta how are you doing is everyone uh okay and i hope you are able to to keep up with our flexible learning your online learning and uh i hope i my natural so our today's objectives is first to discuss the ever-changing concept of the global south is to identify the countries which are commonly associated with the global south and to survey the political and economic conditions in the contemporary latin america in your uh cemeterial project latin america then you would know more information about that hopefully it is a hutting lesson so balik monetize the concepts and global north refers to the countries that are geographically in the northern hemisphere or to countries that are economically developed and global south naman refers to the countries that are geographically in the southern hemisphere or to the countries that are developing or economically struggling global south in terms of geography in terms of location perro puede natin sangma as a global north because they are economically developed again think of countries than nasa south of the equator pero they are developed countries they are rich countries with many many resources financial resources cultural resources technology etc etc and then further south danjan australia new zealand and definitely it's a global norse naman in terms of geographic location in terms of location i'm erin dingmanga as global south in terms of economy in europe they are very rich in uh resources persa eastern europe poverty rate may consider as somehow economically struggling as well civil wars conflicts would change over time dynamics please remember these concepts adding midterms okay the rise of the global south many countries in the world are uh are associated global think countries that can belong to the global south among the countries commonly associated with the term of global south are the countries in the latin america so anonymous latin america mexico the bahamas cuba jamaica belize guatemala el salvador honduras haiti dominican republic nicaragua costa rica panama venezuela guyana suinam colombia ecuador peru brazil bolivia paraguay uruguay argentina chile these are the countries what what what are the the similarities of those these countries what do you think well aside uh these countries have uh experienced colonization in the past either by spain spanish [Music] in the 15th century in the 15th century where the the circle navigation using to exploit foreign lands and colonized in spain so that is why there is similarities of our culture of our social economic conditions so yonyung dahilan again remember last time nasa notes nothing the benefits of joining a trade ala alliance midterms okay so the pacific alliance alianza de allenza de pacifico or and mercosur angolan pacific alliance is participatory integration for free mobility and trade and ammerco surname is competitive integration of national economies into international markets in the first part of globalization when we talked about global economy when we talked about international trade when we talked about market integration the contemporary world in terms of economy we wanted the countries wanted to really focus on free trade alliances opening up the markets more profits for the country more more profits for the country at the same time you are able to uh get money and then you are able to fund social services hospital at the same time global arena all right so these are just uh the characteristics of latin america global south latin america can be grouped geographically as a group of countries in south america which share the same language and culture these social cultural characteristics are linked with their common colonizers nabangit historically people in this part of the world have colorful political scenes when i say colorful in the union parang literally has been colorful uh decades in and decades out and dumming political [Music] political struggles revolutions corruption is a big problem of the society latin america they have colorful political scenes across time as well countries in latin america have been plagued by poverty and economic instability kahirapan across time as well countries in latin america have been plagued by poverty and economic instability it's like our own country the philippines so across time as well we've been struggling to develop the nation to build the nation it's the same experience in latin america that's why they consider that as one of the global south okay so i hope that's clear now i know my example uh political colorful political research more about your country of cuba you will learn more about and how is cuba we have a very modern world now where buildings and skyscrapers matata building very more modern even the cars are very modern but when you look back when you go to cuba the buildings are very old the cars are very old uh imagine 1950s and 1960s that's why the latin vibe the culture sobrang i know many of you wanted to travel the world work in cruise ships or build their own businesses to be able to travel the world and see the world someday seafarers mankind you will be able to duct in havana cuba and then how how interesting and how rich the culture is through the ages has been experiencing young political instability economic instability all right as compared to the global north naveri uh sabihina natin kalmalang peaceful generally and living a very good life very developed nations in the north so again the trade alliances in latin america the pacific alliance in the mercosur is a spanish so um last slide so highlighting latin america to describe the global cell in 2016 morgan stanley economists articulated that latin america plays a role in accelerating the global economy brazil and argentina managed to stand up from economic turmoil economies highlighted that politics and policy choices remain significant in determining economic growth in the area angst do you think if we have good leaders our country will advance to be a global north country to be a developed country do you think if we do not have corrupt officials crooked officials maga advanced into a very developed nation do you think if our politics is stable and young manga policies policies meaning of a developing nation so it's something for you to think about okay uh probably one of of of my strategies for the midterm would really be to get your opinions on things and uh is that you you are able to understand the concept i would just want you to understand the concept global south including the philippines global south that's for us to find out because later on we'll be going to asia particularly we will have a discussion on asian regionalism globalization so but that will be later on towards the end of uh few weeks back on tipa and um i hope you you hold on lungs and uh please uh please please um read yuma bini big materials i am trying to simplify our lesson as much as possible digest very heavy module so i wanted to to try to get the most important features of our classes so to to end this lecture reflection when do you think will the philippines achieve the category of being one of the global north and with that question do you have the responsibility or what responsibilities do you do you feel you need to do to be able to help our country achieve that status to be one of the global north countries even we are in the global south in terms of geography all right so with that i would like to thank you all for listening to my uh to our lecture for today and uh see you next meeting either asynchronously or synchronously all right good morning
