Notes on Creating Route Plan Using JRC ECDIS
Introduction
Overview of using JRC ECDIS for route planning.
Focus on creating route plans directly on the ECDIS display.
Selecting Sea Areas
Use the mouse and scroll ball to select required waters for passage planning.
Example: Planning a passage in Japan.
Scroll to find Japan.
Use zoom in/out buttons on the monitor to locate desired positions or sea areas.
Constructing a Route
Access the main menu:
Press
Menu
.
Choose
Route Planning
.
Start a new route:
Select
New
.
Input waypoints directly on display:
Click the button marked
Route
.
A prompt will show
Add Waypoint on Route
.
Position mouse on desired waypoint location and left click.
Continue adding waypoints by positioning the mouse and left clicking.
To scroll, hold the left mouse key and scroll.
End waypoint entry:
Press
Right Click
to finish adding waypoints.
Editing Waypoints
To adjust a waypoint:
Point the mouse at the desired waypoint.
Press
Right Click
.
Choose
Move Waypoint
.
Position the waypoint and left click to finalize.
Route Data and Table
Obtain track courses and distances:
Transfer data to the route planning table.
Information includes:
Waypoint information
Courses
Distances
Cross track distance
Arrival radius
Turning radius
Planned speed
Alarm Settings
Set alarm for monitored route:
Change course cross track distance value by clicking or entering desired value (e.g., 0.15).
Press
Enter
to confirm changes.
Verify changes in cross track distance on both port and starboard sides.
Saving and Loading Routes
To save the route:
Press
Save
.
Enter desired file name (e.g., August 20 24) and press
Enter
.
If file name exists, option to overwrite.
To open a saved route:
Click
Open
.
Select the file name and click
Open
to load it into the chart.
