Setting Up a GoDaddy Domain with Google Workspace

Requirements

  • Access to GoDaddy account
  • Access to Google admin console

Steps to Setup

1. Accessing the Domain

  • Log into GoDaddy
  • Log into Google admin console

From Google Admin Console:

  • Go to 'Account' -> 'Domains' -> 'Manage Domains'
  • List of previous domains will be shown (verified by Google, activated by Gmail)

2. Adding New Domain in GoDaddy:

  • Log into GoDaddy
  • Go to 'All Your Domains'
  • Click 'Manage DNS' for the chosen domain
  • List of existing DNS records shown

3. Adding the Domain to Google Workspace:

  • Copy the domain to Google
  • Click 'Add Domain', paste the domain name, select 'Secondary Domain', click 'Add Domain,' and start verification
  • Google will prompt to log into GoDaddy and verify the domain (takes a few minutes)

4. Activating Gmail & Creating MX Records

  • After verification in Google console, proceed to activate Gmail
  • Click 'Setup MX Records' and follow the prompts
  • Wait for Gmail activation

5. DNS Record Updates

  • Check added SPF and MX records
  • Add DKIM and DMARC records

DKIM Settings:

  • Go to Google Admin Console -> Apps -> Gmail
  • Select your domain, generate DKIM data string (2048 length, Google prefix)
  • Create new TXT record in GoDaddy
    • Type: TXT
    • Name: Google Domain Key
    • Value: (generated data string)
  • Add record, wait for update, then authenticate

DMARC Settings:

  • Ensure only one SPF record exists
  • Create new TXT record for DMARC
    • Type: TXT
    • Name: _dmarc
    • Value: (policy string from help article)
    • Set TTL to 1 hour
    • Input email address for DMARC reports
  • Add record

6. Final Steps

  • All DNS records added to GoDaddy domain
  • Go back to Google Workspace
  • Create users for the new domain
  • Connect users and start domain warming up
