so i've been doing youtube for a hot minute right i've been on youtube for a couple of years it's been years since i've i started this channel i started this channel back in 2016 in the beginning of 2016 and since then i have made up to 300 videos and most of those videos are actually drawing videos like drawing tutorials now i don't do them much nowadays but every now and then i make a drawing video whether it be for youtube or for tick-tock or instagram and my setup usually isn't the most comfortable or the most spacious so i've had to be creative in how i normally record my videos and doing all of those drawing videos i'd like to think that i am a little bit of an expert when it comes to setting up the camera to record my drawings now a lot of people out there um you know want to start a youtube channel or maybe just want to record something just to you know uploaded social media but a lot of people don't have the best sort of setup we're just working with the essentials here just the table and the chair and seeing the best ways to record your video so without further ado let's get right into it alright so before we get into it now you will need to buy a couple gears not too many at the very least one of the ones that i will mention now these gears are not anything out of the ordinary okay it's something that anybody can get uh and they're pretty cheap as well um so you wouldn't have any problem getting them now the most essential i would say would be a tripod i think everybody knows what a tripod is it's just a stand that will help you hold your camera like my camera right now is held by a tripod and the good thing about a tripod is that the cheapest tripods pretty much gets the job done like pretty well and tripods you can get them really cheap you don't have to get a very expensive one just as long as it's able to hold your camera up and maybe have like a tilt a pan option i mean i think all tripods have that anyway so you're pretty much covered but yeah a tripod would be an essential gear for you now another thing that you're gonna need is a small tripod like this okay now this one is not only a tripod but also a selfie stick um and i thought this one was really really useful now you don't have to get this specific one although it is important that you get like a really small tripod like this and a mount here that you can use to grab your phone um and then you know screw it into it now if you don't want to use your phone it also holds like a gopro now personally i wouldn't recommend using a gopro uh it's fine it's it's a pretty strong one now personally i wouldn't recommend you um recording your drawing videos with the gopro mainly because it's just wide angle um with your phone is perfectly fine personally i don't need anything more than that if you can't get something like this a gorillapod would work just as good now i don't have a gorilla pod but it will work just as fine a gorillapod is pretty much used like the legs of the gorillapod is flexible and then you can mount it like on trees and stuff like that the good thing about that is that it's pretty compact and small that is something also that you're probably going to need get that and also like a mount for your phone now i would recommend that you get a good one because there are a lot of really cheap and really bad quality ones okay so those are the two things tripod a mini tripod or a gorilla pod or something like that and the third thing will be like some sort of weight this is a really custom diy sort of weight what i did is i grabbed a very old sock and i filled it with rice rice is really cheap to get like a kilo of rice like just get it like in the supermarket and then fill it into an old sock what this is used for is obviously as weight counterweight the phone or camera that you have depending on how heavy your phone is or your camera is will depend on how much you'll need but with a kilo for your phone any phone i think would be okay and this has saved my life so many times you don't know how useful this is it is heavy and also it's kind of malleable it's not like a stiff sort of weight okay so with that out of the way uh let's get right into it okay so this is the first setup um that we have as you can see it's a pretty simple setup just a kind of a small table and there's a wall right behind here i'm sure most people's tables have a wall in front of it but if you don't have a wall in front of it i'm also going to give you a couple options where there's no wall in front of it um and there's like an open space all right so let's get right into the first option now the first option is pretty simple grab a couple boxes uh stack them up top of each other put them at the far end of the table now you don't have boxes obviously you can use books they work just as good and what you want to do is grab your small tripod the tiny little one put this right on top of the boxes now once you put that obviously it's going to fall right but with the little weight that we made we want to do is put it on top of the tripod and it holds the phone still that is obviously if you want to have like a horizontal video now if you want to record it vertically we want to do is grab those boxes put it on the left side of the table and now it's recording rather than horizontally it's now recording vertically if you're left-handed what you want to do is put it on the opposite side obviously now the third setup we're gonna use the tripod and that is a over the shoulder shot so uh this is the over the shoulder setup now as you can see here i have the tripod and i've got my phone mounted on here but as you can see here there's a flicker yeah ignore that uh but as you can see uh it's actually a really easy setup to do and you just pretty much tilt your tripod downwards and yeah that's about it as you can see it's really low uh hold on i'm gonna take it up a little bit all right as you can see there's a little bit of a height now i brought up the legs a little bit more one problem with this setup though is that it's kind of you know disturbing the chair you want to take it back a little bit so it doesn't disturb the chair as you can see what you want to do is just zooming and then you pretty much got your shot now if you're right-handed obviously you want to put it on your left side because if you put it on your right side your hand is going to be covering the drawing so that is something that some people might not know or you know completely forget if you're right-handed you want to see the drawing so you want the camera to be left filming towards the right and that way your hand doesn't cover the drawing so those three are probably the setups that i use the most all right so another setup that i didn't mention is that you put the tripod on a table now this setup usually works if you have a big table if you have a small table you just kind of put this a little bit more to the top so that occupies the space the two front legs in front and the last one leg at the back and then you just put your drawing in the middle of that and then all you have to do is from the top just tilt the camera all the way down and then you zoom into the drawing um now this setup as i mentioned works better if you have a bigger table so that the legs are able to expand outside a little bit more but um yeah this is another setup that some people use and works just as good now this setup is probably going to be very similar to the first one uh but instead of having a mini tripod you can pretty much just use a regular tripod all right so now we've changed uh positions um now some people set up might be like this you know there's a table and there's a lot of space in front of the table and i'm going to show you guys a couple setups that might work with this sort of a thing going on here now the first setup here is obviously similar to the first one before um except you can now use the tripod because we don't have an actual wall that is disturbing to record our videos now obviously if you use a tripod you do not need this little weight thingy here but you know if you want to be a little bit more secure you can add it on top of that but you know it's not really necessary because the tripod is enough heavy on its own and since the phone really isn't all that heavy uh it'll hold just fine so the next setup is going to be one where the tripod is in front of the table all right so uh yeah we've removed the boxes um now this setup here is is a little sketchy okay it works for me if you don't have any other options i guess you can use it but all you'll need pretty much is the tripod and you just set it up on the floor and that's pretty much it now this will work if you're using a phone or a camera that isn't really heavy but what you want to do is just set up your tripod on the floor and then just tilt it towards the table to the point where it's stable and then it doesn't fall front or backwards or anywhere and then once you've done that what you want to do is just loosen this and then tilt the tripod all the way down as i mentioned this setup obviously works if your camera is a light one or if you're using your phone or something like that um but if you're using a heavier camera what you can do is grab their little socks thingy that we'd made and then just put it here on this far end of the tripod and then it'll counterweight the camera you know if you don't move it i think this is a pretty sturdy setup and yeah now the next setup is really similar to the over the shoulder sort of set up but because we have a space in front of us what we can do is film in front rather than behind us alright so this setup is pretty similar to the over-the-shoulder setup but instead of you know behind us it's obviously in front of us um yeah just pretty much set it up how you would normally just you know put the tripod on the ground and then just you know shift it towards the drawing and then just tilt it there's a little bit of a distance you obviously want to zoom in maybe a little bit if you don't need to zoom in then it's fine um but yeah that's uh that's about it for that um and you know if you want to put it here you can either put in the middle or on the other corner but yeah you can pretty much just work your way around the front of the desk those are pretty much all the setups that i can come up with i haven't had to you know come up with more setups mainly because these ones work for me just fine but if you guys want me to make more uh let me know i definitely think i can come up with a lot more but these are the ones that i normally use so if you guys found anything in this video useful let me know and also please hit the thumbs up it helps me a lot to know that you guys are liking my videos hope you guys enjoyed let me know what you guys think and i'll see you guys next video bye
