Managing Contacts on the iPhone

Overview

  • You can manage contacts on an iPhone using two apps:
    • Phone App
    • Contacts App
  • Both apps allow:
    • Adding contacts
    • Creating lists
  • Phone App additional features:
    • Favoriting contacts
    • Making phone calls

Differences Between Phone and Contacts App

  • Contacts App:
    • View all contacts and lists
    • Edit contact details
  • Phone App:
    • Similar contact management features
    • Additional tab bar at the bottom:
      • Favorites: Add frequently contacted people
      • Recent Activity: View phone call history
      • Keypad: Dial numbers
      • Voicemail: Access voicemail messages

Managing Contact Accounts

  • Multiple accounts can manage contacts:
    • iCloud
    • Gmail
    • Yahoo
  • Set up accounts in Settings > Apps > Contacts > Accounts
  • Prefer using one account to avoid duplicates
    • Example: Use iCloud

Editing Contacts

  • Tap on a contact to view details
  • Edit Contact option to:
    • Add/remove information like phone numbers, addresses
    • Change ringtone
    • Add notes
  • Find and Merge Duplicates:
    • Search for duplicates and merge data

Sorting and Displaying Contacts

  • Sort Order and Display Order can be set in Settings:
    • Sort by first or last name
    • Display as first name last or last name first

Sharing Name and Photo

  • Share your name and photo with contacts
  • Set preferences in Contacts Settings

Using Lists

  • Create and manage contact lists
  • Add contacts to specific lists
  • Delete lists if needed

Additional Features in Phone App

  • Favorites:
    • Add contacts to favorites by choosing contact method (e.g., call, message)
    • Manage favorites list
  • Recents:
    • View recent calls and missed calls
  • Keypad:
    • Dial numbers directly
  • Voicemail:
    • Manage voicemail messages
