Good afternoon everyone Good afternoon accounting 202 students so Welcome to our online um recorded session for um midterm topics so before we're going to the lecture proper Let's have a short prayer first no so let's acknowledge that without God We are nothing Okay so hallelu father God Lord we are here right now in our online session um please be with us today as we as we learn um about planning and budgeting help us Lord that in every discussion that our instructor has taught us this will give us um um an opportunity to grow in learning and so that we can be able to um bless others as well with the learnings that we have and the values that we will be able to obtain and continue to Guide us in everything that we do in every decision that we are about to make help us that all of these will align to your will because Lord um it is very important for us to work and um commit all of these R God for your name and yours only thank you so much Lord for everything Jesus name Pray amen Okay thank you lord Uh for this session um I hope that students will um be able to bear with me as I discuss um one of the technical topics no for Accounting to o2 so Welcome to planning and budgeting Okay so let's go to the definitions of planning because sa budgeting na part We will be tackling that Later on I think I believe it will be covered in the midterm topic 2 no in my slide here so let's go first to the definitions Okay so planning planning so the definition of planning is it is basically the process of deciding about the goals of an organization no goals of an organization and or its members as well as the means to attain those goals no What is the goal of an organization What is the goal of each of the Department business units and also the members no What are their goals So what are the means What are the ways to attain those goals Okay so that is what you call as planning Okay and then next is um another definition Is that it involves the setting of work goals for each key functional area and the establishment of standards for each goal no so as mentioned earlier no so there are um strategic business units in an organization no So what are their goals no and also um the means or how they can be able to establish such standards para ma-attain ang Goal for that strategic business units departments segments etc and according to another definition of planning no according to merchant and van so planning is decision making in advance Okay So um That is just a very straightforward um definition of planning so let's go to the next one Okay so Uh there are um I will mention three um planning types of planning No that you will be enc that you will encounter so that is strategic planning that is um another planning No that you will that an organization will be Or will about to make is the operational budgeting Okay and then um another is programming no or what we call as capital budgeting so let's go first to strategic planning no What is this What is this all about so strategic planning is relatively broad processes of thinking about the Missions goals and strategies Okay so This is um an overview no of those of these then normally a top management process so the one who crafts the strategic plans no are usually or are those which are sitting at the top managerial position okay on the other hand operational budgeting so that is what you call as shortterm financial planning no so as opposed to strategic planning This is um this spans for for more than years no so depends Upon The policy of the company um how or what is the duration no or when will they be able to revise the strategic plans every um every What year no so some organization they do strategic planning um for duration 5 years No 5 years So um some organization as well no um probably 10 years or more Okay and then operational budgeting that is only shortterm no then budgets match the organization's responsibility structure so of course there there is also an organizational structure no in each of the companies so dapat ang budgets must be matched no sa UN need for that organization and also um the Um yung mga under no yung mga under of that organization like the departments or strategic business units the segments Okay then it emphasis and it emphasizes on quantitative data kasi ' ba Iyung strategic planning is more likely to be qualitative data Okay so dito is numerical no so dito is um ano siya qualitative siya most likely Okay and then next is the programming or capital budgeting so programming no What are your different programs no for each of your departments Okay so specification of specific action programs to be implemented over the next few years and specification of the resources um each will consume okay and it involves managers at different levels top down or bottom up so I have this specific example um an experience one of my experiences no from our client engagements wherein meron silang um initiative like programs no which is what you call as tda tda which is technology data and analytics no that particular program span for 5 years No 5 years siya and then meron siyang different projects under that program no under that initiative and then meron ding mga project managers of course no merong mga program managers so program managers then project managers um meron ding mga business unit um project managers it project managers no and then maraming mga ah marami pang mga under no from those managers which is yung mga business analysts no or yung mga subject matter experts Okay so it either involves Ayun Iyung sabi ko top down bottom up no So from the um your C Suite level so they will cascade no those programs to the different um middle level managers and then the middle level managers Of course it will be cascaded as well to their subordinates no and then from there no so they will have to work on that particular project or projects Okay so and also may mga times na they have to De prioritize no for a particular year no yung specific project for that particular year no Kasi baka meron silang mas ipa-prioritize na other projects which is relevant no and then which gives more benefits no so but Anyways our topic is not focusing on this one But rather Let's just dive in um a high level overview about strategic planning no before we can go to operational budgeting and then for um probably um last week of midterm We will be capital budgeting Okay Okay so so somewhat like an overwhelming um maybe this overwhelms you a little bit no so Anyways let um Digest each of the um each of the Um what we call this one circles no so Anyways um as what I've mentioned no strategic planning involves around crafting vision statement mission statement the goals no or the formulation of organizational objectives no What is the organization's objectives no so the vision and The Mission must be aligned no must align in crafting for your organization's objectives and from there No you can be able to formulate strategies no from your vision from your mission from your objectives no of your company you can now formulate The strategies no or what is the game plan of your company no so game plan of your company Okay and then from the strategies formulated no now there comes planning no so as mentioned strategies No that's what you call as um another term for that is your game plan right in simple term so there comes planning Okay so managers prepare Plans to support the strategies right so kailangan magplano no para portan ang strategies no What is the game plan and of course for the strategies to meet the objectives or the goals of the company Okay so let's also consider control the control no so strategies class or the planning stage the planning stage um sorry nawala ako Okay sorry so in budgeting no um let's let's um Let's get an idea about Bud budgeting so in budgeting there comes planning no so dapat magplano and also there comes control process no So this one no so in control process managers evaluate performance against plans and take corrective actions Okay so meron kang plan of course meron sad ka control process no para There Will Be feedbacking no evaluation of performance and then taking corrective actions From what you have planned no like Same as in budgeting so there comes planning and of course there comes control process no para to ensure that Um what youve budgeted no um aligned pa rin tayo sa net natin na budgets or if ever the standards that we have established no Okay so and then no um d said na malikayan that there will be revisions of plans TH if there are revisions of plans so again um Set the plans then Set the control process again and then next would be the managers implement plans and design controls system such as for example yearly budgets ' ba as what I've mentioned earlier then there will come there will be actual reports that will come in no so with that no um sa actual natin of course Uh that has to be studied that has to be assessed no kung ano Iyung performance for that specific task for that specific plan Okay so very easy regn non very easy so let's go to the next no What is strategic planning Okay so a strategic plan is a document written by leaders of an organization that enables the organization to be innovative adaptable and increase its competitive advantage for a time span of 3 to 10 years Okay so longer duration talaga ung strategic plan ' so just take note that um by crafting the strategic plan no So yung aim talaga ng leaders is para mpos nila yung sarili nila or yung company nila at a competitive advantage no so Depende kung ano yung goal kung ano yung um Goal ng isang kumpanya no whether They would be um the pioneer for cost leadership no or for innovation ' So how um un sa may ganahan sa kumpanya na ma-ap sila sa mga tao no so will they want to be the leader in terms of cost no in terms of innovation no so something like that no so putting the organization um at its competitive advantage so and it's based on the organization's vision containing goals created to enable the organization to fill to fulfill its vision and tactics To accomplish its goals no so naa si basis which is your vision mission and your goals of the company and strategic planning is the process you use to So um Okay going back no so um You are now crafting the strategic plan no So what do we mean exactly by strategy no so as mentioned early your strategy is somewhat like your game plan no or strategy is the intent no strategy is the intent no merong inten yyung company and um as compared to tactics no tactics is putting intent into action so Ayun translation of actions no Okay so well strategy is the Action Plan that takes you where you want to go no the tactics are the individual steps and actions that will get you there so we will be discussing tactics no and the the succeeding slide Okay so again going back strategic planning is the process you use to um take note lang of this acronym DB Li So establish and document a clear direction of your organization no document a clear direction for your organization The next is to identify business goals no so documentation merong documentation of um the organization where it will be heading to then meron ding business goals and set priorities that create growth for your company then next is to formulate a longterm plan of action designed to achieve these objectives no So from aside from business goals there is also a longterm plan that has to be formulated no para ma-achieve Iyung objectives organization's objectives and then determination of an internal system tracking and evaluating performance So you've established already the the plans no the goals so there also has to be a control process no or an internal system tracking and evaluation of the performance para ma-ensure no if the plan that was set is realistic ba siya or need to be revised okay okay so as mentioned no So um probably You might um think What is the difference of strategies versus tactics versus objectives versus goals no let's explore first What is the definition of strategies so strategies is the longterm bets and tradeoffs versus competition no So it is specifically intended for long term Okay then should outline specific strategies areas of Focus and how you will succeed no so say for example um certain business units no so of course naas sila strategies no so each of the um areas or responsibility centers business units department segments they must have an area of Focus no or um they must be able to excel in that in that specific area okay so meron dapat silang game plan para mag-excel in that and how you will succeed Okay and then the key plan for how you achieve goals and objectives the game plan no or the key plan for how you achieve goals and objectives and also dapat own siya no there has to be um an accountable person no accountable unit if ever and must be differentiated no so dapat sa isang kumpanya no so dapat um meron kang Focus no then differentiated no so dapat naad something na Makapa out sa imuha Okay and then This is also associated with intangible items No not typically a concrete thing Okay so Kay high level very high level siya very broad siya no So it is associated with intangible no or qualitative inform then as compared with tactics so tactics is a shorter term of actions to deliver on your strategy So this is somewhat a translation of specific actions no of your strategies okay and it interlocks with strategies expansion of detail on the how so mas detailed na siya kaysa strategies na high level Okay just enough detail to instill confidence that the strategy can be achieved with this action then it will it is associated No it may feel tangible quantitative No you can specifically point to it as a concrete thing or activity no So um probably I can say na um it is not it is not not entirely quantitative No It It is somehow mixed with qualitative No when we say um crafting the tactics No but still when we craft tactics No it is now much more detailed no makakita na ka ng Ah Okay um mas mapa simple ang strategy no by having tactics Okay then objectives so objectives are um somehow quantitative No measurable outcomes that will achieve the goal Okay so smart ' ba So okay Ah okay the smart is some is I Believe under goals No specific measurable attainable um realistic and time bound okay so i think I'm I'm getting it confused I'm sorry for that okay measurable outcomes that will achieve the goal then it includes numerical targets like market share Revenue profits new customer acquisition penetration and penetration then Revenue etc no so mas ano na siya much more um quantitative than the tactics no and specific din siya Okay um some objectives as well meron meron naman din longterm objectives So we cannot really say that that is that will pertain specifics or that will entail specific objectives noo so for long term high level gapon siya But somehow it includes quantitative Figures no then How about the goals so as compared to objectives that is qualitative and that is a desired result you want to achieve and that is broad and long range and it guides or it directs okay so I hope that it's clear with you no the comparison of goals objectives strategies and tactics Now let's go to the next Okay so as mention earlier no the business strategy or the game plan no the key plan Okay so they influence market position and Revenue earning capacity of the company no So how will the business would want their company to be to be in no so will they be the leader in such market no will they be um will they um Okay um in terms of Revenue earning capacity of the company so of course no so profit profit is the um goal no of each of the company so of course um the company must strategize as well no How will they want their company to earn no more revenues no so will That be in a form of reducing costs no or more more more sales more more revenues will be coming in Okay then strategies are plans that layout ideas to be executed to achieve goals and objectives no so we've already tackled this one and strategies can vary according to the targets achievable no so depends on the area of Focus no like in production no they also have their strategy they also have their goals no sales marketing no these business units they have different strategy No they have They they can have strategy on their own but the organization as a whole must also have its business strategy no kaya lang mas pina detailed dito when um um There Will Be areas responsibility centers Para meron ding accountable for that each for that specific segment for that specific responsibility centers Okay strategy so design and implementation so let's first tackle design strategy again is the longterm planning and of the organization no para merong clear Direction yung organization kung saan siya um Where will the organization be heading to okay and strategy work is not the day to-day operations work of the organization No but it will guide the daily work in the organization so strategy no strategy design will provide a framework and feedback mechanic mechanism to evaluate the longterm effects of daily work on the future of the organization Okay so in strategy design There Will Be framework there that will be um crafted no then strategy work can be basically separated into design and implementation so the strategy planning process can be outlined with the following diagram Okay so the there is the strategy design there is this strategy implementation no the strategy design of course it has to be implemented no dapat na siya strategy implementation and then once it is implemented of course actual Res results will be coming out so as to um assess no whether There Will Be revisions that will be done sa strategy no so There Will Be feedbacks then the cycle will be repeated okay here is your strategic planning process first is the vision mission then environmental scanning strategy design strategy implementation evaluation control Okay so strategy design so it involves Board of directors or advisory councils no to work with the chief executive officers Okay para mag ano sila magc sila ng strategy mag-design sila sa strategy Okay once the strategy is designed then it becomes the job of the organization toop management team including the chief executive officers to implement the strategy So it has it will now Be cascaded no sa UM lower or sa subordinates nila and strategy and design and implementation is an iterative feedback loop Okay so the process of implementing strategy provides feedback to adjust and clarify strategy while the evolving strategy design will provide assessment and guidance to the implementation process no so the It is a loop no so It will be repeated Okay so This is the organizational structure no a simplified organizational structure organizational chart no and a company so there is this Board of directors which is or um which is the governing body of a company and the members niya no are elected by the shareholders so the shareholders are your true owners of the company So if that is in public companies no Kasi if ever for nonprofit organization wala namang shareholders ba So iba naman din yung sa kanila so in the case of public companies to set strategy no so Iyung Board of directors will set strategy will over Management and protect the interest of shareholders and stakeholders so every every public company must have a board of directors kasi Ayun nga no sila yung mag oversee sa mga nangyayari sa management para mag-set din ng strategy and protect the interests Okay so a strategic plan is a document no as mention written by leaders of an organization that enables the organization or the management to be in inovative no adaptable and increase its competitive advantage okay okay but Anyways no So Here are your um organizational chart so under the board of directors is the CEO or the Chairman of the board and the President no and Chief operations officer so sometimes no the president is your CEO okay but here in the specific organizational chart no ito yung um position nila no then Vice President marketing VP Finance or your cfo VP production then some um meron ding iba no VP technology no Depende sa nature ng business ng isang kompanya Okay under the cfo the treasurer and then the controller then the treasure here is um the cash manager and so on no so these are so maraming positions no under ng isang organization Okay let's now go to the vision mission and core values so as mentioned no the strategy no before formulation of strategies there has to be um a formulation of vision mission and core values because that will now aid no or that will be the foundation for the strategies that will be crafted so vision Okay so what the organization intends to be No what the organization intends to be or Who are we so Okay and then the mission What the organization intends to do no What do we do no then the core values are your Principles and priorities that guide an organization actions so whether or not the employees and directors realize it no so for profit companies and not for profit organization no so even community associations and mga government entities no these are guided by a strategy no so an organization that intentionally identifies its values in the process of designing yung Uh strategy and yung implementation ng strategy should then base Its Own um Sorry must have a basis again must have a foundation no which are these no the vision and mission for an organization should be clearly and concisely laid out as a set of two separate statements So merong vision statement meron ding mission statement okay and again core values No they represent the foundational commitments no and deeply held beliefs that allow a company to navigate complex situations no while keeping their identity and culture at the forefront so let's explore now the core values of USJR so that is very easy to memorize No that is or inspire so we inspire Okay so we have interiority we have nationalism we have service pioneer ism integrity and reliability Okay so sorry inspir siya So kangan excellence the last is excellence okay nakalimtan ang one of the most important no excellent Okay vision Who are we who are we as a hosen yan Who are we at USJR Okay so usjr's vision is a recoletos university renowned for Education excellence research impact no and community transformation so very easy Education excellence research and community transformation Okay not just we excel academically no through research through Education but also we have to transform the community no we must be able We must become blessings no to our community Okay so the vision statement guides subsequently the development of the mission statement so mission statement no describes What the organization is committed to do or how the company or the organization will Act No The Mission statement answers the question What do we do and it should be specific enough that the organization can identify Whether it is progressing toward an ultimate measurable goal so the US jr's mission is imbued with the spirit of La um Sorry love no love and science Charity and science we provide the highest level of quality Christian quality Christian community oriented Education then let's go now to the goals so the goals of the USJR is innovative and relevant academic programs Okay transformative teaching learning vibrant research and innovation culture highly engaging and impactful community and social services recognized international Presence fortified augustinian recollect values then strategic leadership decision making and governance Institutional automated support services EC St then functional quality management and assurance system no So this will be the goals TH These are the goals of USJR from 2024 to 2029 so that would be 5 years right 2025 26 Yeah that's 5 years no so The Mission as well so that will span for a period of 5 years no and then after 5 years mag craft na pun na silag bago Okay so so I also crafted my own vision no so not just USJR but also yourself will also have to craft your vision your own vision and mission so my vision is to be a pillar of financial integrity and a source of inspiration for my family and community No demonstrating that dedication and and hard work can break generational barriers Okay so This is my vision while my mission statement is to excel in my academic pursuits diligently prepare for the CPA Licensure no this was the time when I was still a student like you guys no so sig mahibong mo ba okay to Exel in my academic pursuits diligently prepare for the CPA Licensure so that I can provide and wavering support to my family in the future prioritizing their wellbeing while pursuing my professional and personal aspirations So what do will uh what will I do no so that is Our mission statement no as defined earlier What do we do no so kana siya to excel in my academic pursuits prepare for CPA Licensure no so that I can give back to my family and also to grow no for my own self personally and professionally spiritually and other aspects and all aspects Okay here is my goal as well so number one goal is academic excellence so my goal back then was to maintain an average grade perm No that is higher than my previous grade no sa sa previous sem no or if da siya achievable no kay naag mga uncontrollable factors such as kanang depends no sa atong teacher if they are generous in giving grades No but depends pod no depends pod sa atuang UM hard work right kay it's not we cannot rely sol saong teachers because our teachers are only recording what we um sa atuang na um na-get ba sa atuang UM What do you call this the get scores ba pero nbang mga teachers they are very generous No they will adjust they will give incentives no so any that I'm not telling that that is me Anyways no So if nao um ma goal to have that higher grade from my previous um sams grade so I should defeat my older version no which kaang the kaang older version ng d na ganahan and also not just academic excellence but also in non akad no non akad so actively participate in JP activities such as quiz bows workshops or seminars no kay this will be an Avenue for us to um to explore opportunities no and to um to expand our Networks or connections Okay and then next is the CPA Licensure no so the goal of every accountancy student is to pass no the CPA Licensure Exam so my goal back then was to create oh to to obtain the CPA lic to C the CPA license no so and with that no with that goal so mag-create ko o comprehensive study plan for the CPA exam and cultivate a top not your mindset no even if I kept it for myself only no so k d sa taganahan ng mag-saya tang not sure so Sige langang self no we are We are the best no saong self And God knows that we work Harder we work Harder for our goals to be achieved Okay then family support of course my goal is to provide support to my family no That's why I balance my academic and academic suits with my family responsibilities no being the eldest of the family so I must serve a positive role model for my younger siblings no So um daghan me so I must serve as a positive role role model no and contribute to the financial stability of the family kay since I'm the eldest no so i'm i am the Next In Line sa akong parents no and um Anyways um I will not go further to my family since I'm talking about my goals naman here so personal growth as well or overall wellbeing so I must develop strong ethical values and um Faith values no so I must improve my time management skills and maintain a healthy work life balance or school life balance no so that was my goals Those Were my goals back then Okay strategy Okay So Here are my strategies first is education and preparation so education and preparation so I must dedicate sufficient time to studying also utilize available resources whether that would be study groups no or mag kuan me ka ng sa una no nag-group study di me sa akong mga batchmates so add sa mga libraries no or ad to me sa outside sa coffee shops or ad to me sa UM noty kuan dito um Study Center study Center the piz veles no naas mga nag-study ang mga Med Anyways Me kay mas barato no kaya magcoffee shop nga mahal then online materials as well no faculty support of course faculty support no So um you can really You can um before no we are not we are free to ask Uh we really Are we Sorry nagaask may questions sa among mga mais Maestro no or What are their tips no so kanang am silang I um ihong role model gani no and then Begin preparing for the CPA exam early in the academic program so at the start of first year so first year pa lang dapat mag-prepare na mo No because that is not or the CPA is accumulative um years of hard work no from first year up to fifth year no and up until review session so dapat from first year pa lang no naan na mo iung mindset no nag-prepare na mo then time Management and balance Okay so I also allocate t time for studying no family and personal wellbeing so as well as develop effective time management techniques to maximize productivity no learn to prioritize tasks activities events na um ginapan no and also manage stress no kaya ang stress dili mag na siya mapugngan so we have to at least manage it okay so balance and time management then experience and networking or experience and support system no here Are My support system Okay so I ensure that I surround Myself with a good working environment or good support environment so my family so they are my prayer Warriors So sil take pad take o boards no akong review si months of review so sil kake na ko so nakaiba na lang ang kabarangay after ko nakapasar sa word Hala ni take ka of words No So better to be silent better to keep it no sa imuhang circle no which or Who are your trusted ones ' ba then um experience no um We also create connections no outside sa among studies no so kana siya we we visited companies no we make connections and then para um maka-gain saad me no experience No what it's like to be in the real corporate or setting no real world And then also um surround Myself with or build good relationships with my professors and mentors because I consider them to be I consider them no as my mentors no without them without them I would not be where I am today so I somehow i i what they call this one I owe um something No I owe a Deb of gratitude to them because of their um teachings No because of their um Um what do you call this one advices their tips no so very supportive J ang professors ang men sa USJR No I really I'm really proud to say that that they are very supportive no so Okay so I'm done with my vision mission and strategy so let's now go to the technical part no so um we're already done with the vision and mission next is the Um okay Sorry Just a quick recap about the organization's vision statement and The Mission statement so the strategy No it's not the vision statement The Mission statement right so it's it's a different thing no the organization The organization strategy is a much more detailed set of evolving objectives that establishes how the organization will successfully implement its mission in a competitive environment Okay so next is the environmental scanning so please remind remember Dok cups Okay so companies will also have to scan the environment right so first is the organization domain Okay um Where is the organization situated in terms of what is now the happenings in the economy no the Trends the legal mandates the demographics of the organization no So are they in a um strong um strong What do you call this one area no or k ba sila strategic location no and then the organization's competitors no so aside from the domain no of the organization The competitors as well No it has to be identified as well no the Current and the potential competitors the next is the organization's customers which is your current and potential customers then the organization partners no your suppliers your local government and community groups and lastly would be the organization structure no the employees the plant assets the financial resources the intellectual property No what the organization has Okay so These are the four areas no or somewhat external no yeah they are external well here the organization structure is your internal Okay strategy must be designed to work effectively in the environment in which the organization operates so environmental scanning is a systematic process of Gathering data and insights about the setting no or where no the company is operated operating in which the organization will deploy its strategy Okay so dapat kay ang company ani no sa iang environment para maka siya sakt strategy so the organization environment includes the following aspects no so kan sila Okay next is the environmental scanning with SWAT analysis aside from the duk cups no um there are number of tools available to help perform environmental scanning and to help design strategy so one well-known tool that can be used for both environmental scanning and designing strategy is SWAT analysis which is your strengths the company strengths the company's weaknesses opportunities and threats Okay so sa strengths and weaknesses These are the internal positive and internal negative factors respectively Okay well opportunities and threats these are the external positive and external negative factors respectively no so k take note lang kan internal while here external siya So dapat mo assess mo analyze ang company no sa iyahang strength sa iyang weaknesses no sa iyang opportunities sa mga threats Okay para ah maka design strategy effectively Okay next is strategy design okay as mention designing strategy with SWAT Matrix or SWAT analysis is um Yeah Sorry um SWAT can also be used to support the work of a strategy design as mentioned with the environmental scanning complete the smoth tool can be reconfigured slightly to help managers Focus more clearly on the type of strategy they intend to pursue so as illustrated here in the diagram noo so organization must manage both the strengths and weaknesses inherent no or natural in their organization and they should adjust to Take advantage of opportunities here here opportunities as well as guard against threats in their industry no So it is not the objective of this w Matrix for organization to design their strategy to be equally focused across all types of strategic objectives above so for example the so strategies no the strengths opportunities strategies pursue opportunities that are a good fit to our strengths no so You have to identify the strengths your strengths the company strengths in order to pursue such opportunities well on the other hand the w strategies No you have to overcome or the company must overcome the weaknesses no to pursue available opportunities then the St strategies is to identify how to use our strengths to reduce exposure to threats and then wt strategies um establish a plan to prevent threats from exploiting or weaknesses Okay We're done with the strategy design So we're also done with the midterm topic one no So you have to remember that strategy is a longterm planning that guides the daily work in the organization no and then executive leadership or the management the top management will have to define the vision no or what the company wants to be wants to become then It also establishes The Mission no or what the company will do then the company the management the top management will also have to scan the environment duko cups Okay then design the strategy no so there are number numerous tools No one one of which is the swot Matrix then operating
