Funny German Phrases (Animal Edition)

[Music] [Music] hello class in case you don't know my name is Miss soft sparkling and today I'm here to teach you FG P part one what's fgp you may ask it's I hope you can read this funny German phrases animal Edition because I noticed the German language has like some seriously funny phrases and they all include animals so I probably have collected uh 20 or so but today it's uh around 10 and I'm going to share them with you and you maybe even learn something I have the German expression and after that I have the rough translation in English like the word for word translation and then in brackets I have um your equivalent to this phrase so maybe this is only funny in my head but regardless you're going to learn something so um let's start and please um see my little slideshow I made for you so this is like the first one funny German phrases and let's start with like a cute one it's pronounced uh I hope you can see this it's pronounced in and maybe you see them so shinga it's butterflies and if you translate this it's to have butterflies in your stomach um and I think um it's basically the same in English so you know it's all about falling in love and having all the tingly feelings in your body and it probably feels like butterflies in your stomach so I think this is cute and it's also cute that you have basically the same translation expression phrase so um yeah that's pretty nice I say and the next one is v m I know this is not like the the maggot like the symbol it's a little like the one before a butterfly becomes a butterfly but you know it's like a maggot in bacon so Vic is uh like a maggot in bacon you probably can guess what it means but your expression is to live off the fat of the land so you live in total abundance uh you don't care what you do just you know living consuming and feeling good without thinking of about everything else I think it's funny mainly because I like bacon but yeah and it's interesting your equivalent in the English language uh doesn't like involve animals next one is um maybe you can guess like uh tarantal is tarantula you know if I translate this uh word for word it's getting stung by a tarantula and your equivalent is uh as if stung by an adder and I have I had to look what's an Adder so it's an otter um I don't know how you can get stung by an otter um or maybe I have the wrong the wrong uh translation but you know it's if you uh when you react pretty quickly and you know just running and reacting um like without like a cause that's basically getting stung by a tarantula it's not something you use now it's more like an older expression but still um I still know it so most of the Germans know it probably the next one is uh in an in an vinist grien this is basically a reach into a hornets nests or maybe uh the one that's more like known in the English language is to open a can of worm worms worm worms to open a can of worms no to open a can of worms hopefully this one's right now if you uh you know if you um do something without thinking of the consequences and it totally backfires that's probably the most accurate translation interpretation of this so um yeah keep that in mind also a cute one is do I don't know if you have like something in the English language that that's uh like involving sparrows but uh it's basically sparrows are shouting it from the rooftops or maybe it's all over town so everybody knows everybody everybody and their grandmother knows so no secrets and then moving on to a bigger animal elepant panad and this translation is basically the same in English um it's like an elephant in a china shop but you say like a bull in the china shop so if you're very clumsy and you know everything breaks and you're just you know you're not very uh elegant like very elegant person and mostly clumsy this is like this is a cute one look this is basically if you if you have very good eyes to have eyes like a lynx I don't know why we say looks like lynxes have good eyes in German but you say to have eagle eyes this one makes more sense because you know Eagles are known to have like Superior Vision so don't know how Germans coming to you know thinking of lynxes with good eyes they probably have good eyes but I think Eagles are like the most wellknown that's it these were the Expressions I collected so um you know I just think like concluding summarizing all of this it's funny that like in Germany we have so many Expressions uh regarding animals for me it's like a regular thing because I'm German um but I think it's funny that like you have some of the translations also involving animals but not the same animals sometimes and uh sometimes also not uh not uh um there are there aren't any animals involved like whatsoever but for me it's funny to know and maybe if you have better translations in English please let me know you know I always appreciate a comment a like and a subscribe if you if I should like continue with the teaching content I'm here and waiting and reading your comments and um let's have fun together in the German with the German language thank you for [Music] watching [Music] l oh
