Did you know SSI recipients and their representative payees can report monthly wages to SSA using the mobile wage reporting app? We have recently enhanced our SSA mobile wage reporting application to make it easier to use. Now when you report wages using the app, you can choose to simply take a photo or to upload paystubs for the whole month instead of having to enter them manually. If you haven't used the app before, please contact your local Social Security office first to make sure you meet the requirements to report your wages online. Before reporting wages using the mobile app, you will need: The wage earner's SSN. This is the SSN of the person working. Every paystub the wage earner received for the entire month. Every paystub should show at least the pay date and the gross wage amount. Gross wages is your pay before taxes and other deductions. A wage earner is the person who is working and receiving wages or payment for working. You could be a reporter as well as the wage earner if you are reporting your own wages. If you are reporting someone else's wages, then you are just the reporter. Wages should be reported during the first six days of the month after the month they were received. This helps prevent an incorrect SSI payment. If you miss the first six-day reporting period, you can still report wages using our mobile application, our telephone wage reporting system, using your personal "my Social Security" account online, or at your local Social Security office. Now let's go over how to use the SSA mobile wage reporting app that you can download from your device's app store. Be sure to check for updates to the app each month to ensure you have the latest version. Once you launch the application, select "get started" on the home page. You will see information about the sign-in options on the enhanced security options page. Select "sign in/register" to continue. You will have three options to sign in. 1. If you have a "my Social Security" account created before September 18, 2021, select "sign in with Social Security username" and then enter your username and password. 2. If you have a login.gov account, select "sign in with login.gov." 3. If you have an id.me account, select "sign in with id.me." If you do not have an account with any of the three options, select "create an account with login.gov." You will be redirected to the login.gov site to create an account. After creating your account, you will be redirected back to the sign in page. Select "sign in with login.gov" and enter your login information. After signing in, you will be presented with the terms of service and privacy act statement pages to review. Once you agree to the terms, you will be able to start your wage reporting process. When you begin, you will see the month you can report wages for. This is the reporting month. Remember, you should report all of the prior month's paystubs during the first six days of the following month. Consistent and timely monthly wage reporting helps prevent SSI overpayments and underpayments. Next, select whose wages you are reporting. Indicate if you received any wages for the reporting month. Select "next." If you are reporting wages for other persons, enter the SSN of the wage earner and indicate if they received any wages for the reporting month. Then confirm the information. Remember, the wage earner is the person who is working. Reporters should always enter the SSN of the wage earner here, not the SSN for the person receiving SSI. For example, if you are receiving SSI and need to report wages earned by your spouse, you will enter your spouse's SSN and gross wages earned. If you are reporting your own wages and another person's wages, enter your own information first, and once you successfully submit you will see a "submit for another person" button. Selecting this allows you to submit wages for another person. You will enter the other person's SSN and wages. There is no need to enter your own personal information again. Now you are ready to report wages on the paystub information screen. You can choose to take a picture of the paystub, upload a file of the paystub, or manually enter information for every paystub in the reporting month. To take a picture of each individual and separate paystub, place the paystub on a dark colored, non-reflective surface that is well lit. Position the camera directly over the paystub, not angled. Ensure all wage fields are in the picture and can be read clearly. Take a picture of the paystub. The camera screens for iOS and Android differ. iOS users will need to select "use photo" to capture the photo, while Android users will need to select the check mark to capture the photo. To upload a file of each paystub, choose the paystub file to upload, one file at a time. The file size must be 10 megabytes or less. The file type must be PDF, PNG, or JPG. Whether you take a picture or upload a file, the app will read the paystub details. After a few seconds, the paystub information will appear on the "enter your total wages" screen. Confirm the wages shown are accurate. If any information is missing or incorrect, please update now. To manually enter each paystub, select the "enter manually" tab at the top of the paystub information screen. Then enter the requested information. No matter which option you choose, make sure that you only include paystubs for wages you received in the month shown at the top of the page. Confirm that the wage information shown on the wage report review screen is correct. If you need to add paystubs, select the add new button at the top. Or to delete or edit any paystubs for the month, select delete or edit. Once you enter and confirm all paystubs for the month, select the continue button. On the next screen, the system provides the total number of paystubs entered and the total amount of the wages reported for that month. If the information is correct, select the "submit" button. It will take a few seconds for the data to process. Once completed, you will see confirmation that the wage report has been submitted. Finally, you can select log out. The SSA mobile wage reporting application saves time and helps you report wages to us without the need to call, visit, or write your local Social Security office. Be sure to sign up for email or text reminders to report your wages at: www.ssa.gov/ssiwagereporting. If you prefer not to report wages using the mobile application, you may use our telephone wage reporting tool, a personal "my Social Security" account, or with your local Social Security office by mail, on the telephone, or in person. If you experience technical difficulties, please contact your local Social Security office for assistance.
