Hey yo! What's up mga kaangzo! Hello, hello my loves! Welcome back to my channel.
I am Ma'am Agape and this is MIL Series Episode 9. For this episode, we will be discussing about People Media. So without further ado, let's get started. When people in the media cannot decide whether they are in the business of reporting news or manufacturing propaganda, it is all the more important that the public understands the difference and chooses their news sources accordingly.
Thomas Sowell In a previous episode, we have learned that there are different types of media. We have print, broadcast, and new media. This time, we will understand how these different types of media are produced in terms of formats and who are the people behind the production of these media contents. There are different dimensions and sources of media and information. Text, visual, audio, motion, manipulative, and multimedia these media are created by the producers of what we call people media so people media refers to persons that are involved in the use analysis evaluation and production of media and information so basically people media means people that are involved in the media.
There are two types of people media. We have people as media, and people in media. People in media.
These are the people who control media. These are the people behind any forms of media such as ads, videos, etc. that access information and acquire new knowledge. Meanwhile, people as media, the people act as the media itself. They are the people who give and or share information to other people for them to have new knowledge. So with the prepositions in and as, we can identify what is the difference among the two.
two types of people media so people in media yung mga tao na nasa media while people as media ito yung mga tao who act bilang media so let us identify further people in media can be found both in print and broadcast so the people in print media are journalists writers and authors editors layout artists or graphic artists photographers art directors and publishers these are the people involved in the production of print media. The journalist and they tell the people the four W and one H which are what when where why and how a certain event happened and how it could affect others meanwhile writers and authors the difference between writers and authors is that writers they are more on literary authors they are Those people who write academic or scholarly outputs. Editors, they make sure that a written output is worth publishing.
Layout artists or graphic artists, of course, they are the ones who make the graphics or the images. They provide the images which could complement the message or the... Articles. Photographers, they capture the scenes, they capture the happening, they capture the images that would accompany the written material or to visually represent a concept or idea. Art directors, they are in charge of the overall concept.
They are the ones who give the theme or the... Motive of the materials in terms of art, design, and graphics. And we have the publishers who are in charge of financing and handling the cost of production when it comes to printed media. Now, the people in broadcast media. We have reporter, news anchor, TV or program host, scriptwriter, director, and the producer.
Reporter... The difference between a reporter and a news anchor is the reporter in the field. He or she is in charge of delivering the news to the public. Meanwhile, the news anchor delivers the news inside the studio either through a TV or a radio.
News anchors are also called newscasters. So again, the reporter more on the field, the news anchor is in the studio. TV or program host, of course, they serve as the guide of the flow of the program or a show. Scriptwriter, the person who writes the script.
Director supervises or facilitates how the hosts or the actors would perform. in a certain movie or in a certain show. Producer of course, this is what everyone needs.
One who finances the show or the movie. So technically, the people who work in the media industry are considered people in media. They are the media practitioners.
Now let us move on to people as media. So people as media, the people act as the media. We have four types of people as media. Opinion leaders, citizen journalism, social journalism, and crowdsourcing.
First is the opinion leader. Opinion leaders are highly exposed to and actively using media, the source of viable interpretation of messages for lower-end media users and whose opinions are accepted by a group. Now, in our first episode, we have discussed that media serves as the center or the source of information. Now, in people as media, technically, people act as the media or the source of information.
In this case, the opinion leaders are the people whose opinion is accepted by a large group of people. For example, the teachers. They act as the source of information.
Now, why are they considered opinion leaders? Because they are too exposed to different kinds of media contents or information. Once you're exposed to a wide range of knowledge, you'll know more and you'll share more with other people.
and once You share that information to other people, your opinion could be accepted by other people. Next is Citizen Journalism. Citizen Journalism, people without professional journalism training, can use the tools of modern technology and internet to create, augment, or fact-check media on their own or in collaboration with others.
Citizen Journalism, these are the people without training, professional training, when it comes to producing media contents or writing news. An example is, you buy and patrol a... TV Patrol.
So these are the people who are not journalists, they are not writers, but they act as the source of media. By just sending videos of the things that are happening around their community, if we see random or ordinary people who post on social media or even create contents about what, when, where, why, and how a certain event happened, that is what we call Citizen Journalism Next is Social Journalism If in Citizen Journalism, these are the people without professional training who use modern technology in informing the people Here in Social Journalism, these are the people with professional training Journalists use their social media accounts or social media platforms to make their content more available to other people Example, we have the likes of Karen Davila, Atom Arolio, Bianca Dava, Joseph Morong who use their Twitter accounts to publicize information, their news articles, or their news reports. Again, the difference between citizen journalism and social journalism is that social journalism, these are the journalists.
They have professional training. While citizen journalism, these are ordinary people without professional training. Fourth is crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing is the practice of obtaining needed services, ideas, or content by soliciting contributions from a larger group of people and especially from the online community now crowdsourcing is technically just posting on your media platforms soliciting foreign information example now post a conan guys in the detail my alum maganda tourist destination then of course mcconnell so the information that you can gather from the comment section are from the large group of people So once again, There are two types of people media.
We have people in media or people who are in the media. They are the media practitioners and people as media or people who act as the media itself. Now, what are the advantages and disadvantages or limitations of people media? Let us first discuss the advantages.
People media, they provide entertainment to the audience. Another advantage is that People media provide the audience with the information. Also, they serve as role models since most of them are celebrities or public figures.
But people media also have limitations. People can get tired of the same old style which could lead to boredom or disinterest. Another is that people rely on the accuracy of the information.
But because we're just human, it is possible that me as a people media can make mistakes. since you consider me as a relevant source, then it is possible that you will believe the wrong information. Lastly, people become disappointed when they see a media personality misbehave.
Because in the sense of people media, you rely information from the people itself, from the media practitioners or from the people as media. Now, if that certain people media, we just see them misbehaving or they have actions that do not fit our opinion, it is possible that we will judge them or we will not believe them anymore. Now, the cancel culture is still in use. You just don't match opinions, we will call out or cancel out our support with that certain person.
The thing is, if you want to expose yourself in the right information, expose yourself with the right people. The right people, media. As the quote said earlier, if people in the media cannot decide whether they are in the business of reporting news, or manufacturing propaganda it is all the more important that the public understands and chooses their news sources accordingly so that is it yo guys i hope that you have learned something from me today that is all about people media again there are two types of people media we have people in media and people as media so i hope that you have learned the differences among these two types and you have realized the importance of people in media and people as media.
That is it for now. And once again, I am Mama Gepe. And I will see you next time.
