Google Ads Policy on Government Documents and Services

Overview

  • Google restricts ads related to government documents and services.
  • Purpose:
    • Protect users from fraud
    • Ensure correct information is provided
    • Maintain integrity of government websites

Authorized Providers

  • Only certified governments and authorized providers can run ads for specific government documents and services.
  • Authorized Provider: An advertiser with explicit permission from a government to provide specific documents or services.

Certification Process for Authorized Providers

Step 1: Apply for Certification

  • Choose the appropriate certification options.

Step 2: Complete Advertiser Identity Verification Program

  • Check email for instructions to start the process.
  • Provide required information for successful verification.
  • Notification of application status will be sent.
  • Verification status can be checked in the Google Ads account under Billing > Advertiser Verification.

Approval and Documentation

  • If approved, a certificate will be applied to the Google Ads account.
  • After submission of documentation, verification may take 5 to 7 business days to update in the account.

Important Notes

  • Some categories may have regional or business exclusions.
  • Providers qualifying for exclusions must apply for certification.
  • If affected by this policy but not promoting government documents/services, you can apply for ads to be excluded from this policy.
