Humerus Anatomy ex 5 lab

uh hey all this is professor mccarty here we are looking at a right and a left humerus right um you know if we can start over here on the proximal end of the bone you can see this sort of rounded structure is the head right the head is supported by the anatomical neck which is here and then the surgical neck which is more down here sort of opposite the head on the lateral side of the bone right so the head sort of establishes the medial side the lateral side we've got the greater tubercle right and then on the anterior side we've got the the lesser tubercle so lesser silver and this one the lesser typical greater tubercle uh in between the tubercles you've got the intertubicular sulcus which is here also known as the intertubercular groove um as we move laterally you can see there's this raised ridge sorry as we move distally you can see on the lateral side this raised ridge that is the deltoid tuberosity where the deltoid muscle attaches on the distal end the humerus you can see that there are two um two condyles right this sort of more rounded condyle is called the capitulum and this um sort of more medial condyle that's sort of butterfly shaped that is called the trochlea right trochlea means pulley i guess if you put a piece of string here you might be able to create some sort of pulley um this right here is called the coronoid fossa that's going to make a lot more sense once you know we get to the structure of the ulna um this bit here on the middle that's on the medial side uh that is the um the medial epicondyle that's essentially your funny bone because your ulnar nerve goes right right behind it um you know con condyles are rounded projections that form part of the joint like the trochlea here epicondyles are typically just above condyles and are served as the attaching site of muscles there's also a lateral epicondyle although that doesn't appear on the list of structures flip over to the posterior side of the bone one of the ways that you can tell that this is the posterior view is this fossa here this is called the olecranon fossa electronyl refers to the back of the elbow which is exactly where this is right so just to review this right here this is a left humerus and this is a right humerus
