Creating Visualizations

Sheet 1: Revenue by Year

  1. Objective: View total revenues annually.
  2. Steps:
    • Drag Sales Revenues to the Rows shelf.
    • Drag Period Ending Date to the Columns shelf.
    • Default visualization: Line graph.
    • Format:
      • Click the "T" icon to show total sales revenues.
    • Rename the sheet to "Revenue by Year."

Sheet 2: Total Sales by Quarter and Year

  1. Objective: Gain insights into data trends quarterly.
  2. Steps:
    • Drag Sales Revenues and Period Ending Date to the Rows shelf.
    • Utilize "Show Me" for visualization types.
    • Drag Period Ending Date into the Columns shelf, select "Quarter."
    • Format:
      • Arrange graph in descending order for recent years.
      • Show sales amount by clicking the "T" icon.
      • Add color by dragging Sales Revenue onto the Marks card over "Color."
    • Insights:
      • Range: Lowest sales at ~$12M, highest at ~$24M.

Sheet 3: Revenue by Category

  1. Objective: Understand revenue distribution among categories.
  2. Steps:
    • Drag Sales Revenues to Rows shelf and Category to Columns shelf.
    • Switch to "Packed Bubbles" graph for visual clarity.
    • Format:
      • Drag Sales Revenue over to Marks card over "Label."
    • Insights:
      • View total sales for each category over three years.

Sheet 4: Sales by Product Line

  1. Objective: Evaluate sales by product line.
  2. Steps:
    • Default bar graph visualization.
    • Switch to "Tree Map" for relative size representation.
    • Format:
      • Label boxes with product line names.
      • Colors indicate sales volume.
    • Hovers show total sales per product line.

Sheet 5: Top Customer in Sales

  1. Objective: Identify top customers by sales.
  2. Steps:
    • Drag Sales Revenue to Columns and Customer Name to Rows.
    • Sort in descending order.
    • Create a "Top 10" list:
      • Use "Filters" - Top tab to select Top 10 by sales revenue.
    • Format:
      • Show total sales dollars using the "T" icon.
      • Add color gradient to display sales range.

Sheet 6: Sales by Division

  1. Objective: Evaluate sales across divisions.
  2. Steps:
    • Drag Period Ending Date and Sales Revenues to Columns.
    • Add Division to Rows.
    • Format using the "T" icon and color.

Creating a Map Chart

  1. Objective: Visually display sales by division on a map.
  2. Steps:
    • Change Division to "Geographic Role" (Country/Region).
    • Default bar graph, switch to "World Map" view.
    • Adjust display:
      • Hide unnecessary elements.
      • Correct location errors (e.g., Korea to South Korea).
      • Resize view for better clarity.
