La Hi friends, today in this lecture we are going to talk about the side effects of anti-tubercular drugs. So particularly we are going to talk about the side effects of those drugs that are used as the first line agents in the treatment of acute tuberculosis. So what are the drugs that are used as the first line agents in the treatment of of tuberculosis. So these drugs includes the first one is rifampicin or you can also call it as rifampin and the second drug is isoniazid and the third drug is parazinamide whereas the fourth drug is ethambutol. So now let's discuss the side effects of these four drugs.
Yes so coming to the first drug called rifampin or rifampicin whenever the patient takes this drug then this drug is going to make the body fluids of third patient to turns out into a very special type of a color called orange color or red color so upon taking this drug your body fluids are going to change its color this is the side effect of this drug moving to the the side effect of the next drug called isoniazid whenever the patient takes this drug then this drug is going to cause peripheral neuropathy so as to prevent this side effect called peripheral neuropathy we rescue the patient by giving a therapy called rescue therapy where we give special type of a vitamin called vitamin b6 or we can call it as pyridoxine. Moving to the side effect of the next drug called pyrazinamide. Pyrazinamide causes hyperuricemia.
So this drug is going to increase the levels of uric acid in your blood. So whenever you take this drug called pyrazinamide it is going to increase the levels of uric acid in your blood. Thus making that individual to have a very special type of a condition called gout yes moving to the side effect of the last drug called ethambutol see ethambutol causes red green color blindness there is another drug which is not belonging to this class rather it is belonging to phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitor called sildenafil where this drug causes blue green blindness so we are having two drugs causing color blindness one is causing red green color blindness and other one is causing blue green color blindness so the drug that causes red green color blindness is ethambutol and the drug that causes blue green color blindness is sildenafil so all these drugs causes a common side effect called hepatotoxicity so hepatotoxicity is the side effect which is caused by all these four drugs so these are the side effects of the first slide agents used in the treatment of active tuberculosis so friends if you really like this lecture then please share this lecture and subscribe to the channel thank you
