Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits bacterial reproduction
- Effective against aerobic gram-positive and certain gram-negative anaerobic bacteria
- Binds selectively to 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit
- Prevents initiation of complex formation with 70S ribosomal subunit
Indications
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Hospital-acquired pneumonia
- Skin or subcutaneous tissue infections
- MRSA infections
- Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to linezolid or any component of the formulation
- Use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 2 weeks of taking an MAOI (e.g., phenelzine)
Dosing Examples
- Community-acquired pneumonia: 600 mg IV or orally every 12 hours for 10-14 days or 7-21 days for MRSA
- Skin or subcutaneous tissue infections: 400 mg orally every 12 hours for 10-14 days

- Vomiting: 2-4%
- Headache: 5.5-8.5%
