uh Camp Customs Camp adviser and on explicit Camp custom business I will refrain from using my cell phone during daytime hours while with campers in order to maximize the meaningful relationships that are being built at camp and I will only use my cell phone after hours and after campers have gone to bed or during my daily break time so long as it does not distract me from my responsibilities the supervision of camper is a big responsibility uh we want to make sure that everyone has their attention focused on that responsibility really throughout Camp um and being distraction free will help us to do so and that's really the reason why we have uh all of the the things that we we mention here in order to promote healthy positive and meaningful relationships at Camp I will keep my attention uh on the week of the week focused on the campers should a romantic relationship uh between counselors exist I will keep it private and not allow it to interfere with my counselor responsibilities or to shift any attention away from the campers I will maintain healthy and professional boundaries between campers and counselors this means that you can and should have conversations that are Camp appropriate so try to focus the conversation on Camp programming the camper and their interests avoid topics relating to relationships alcohol drugs or really anything un related to Camp or custom programming if at all possible um also I will refrain from encouraging or facilitating any crush or romantic feelings a camper May develop towards a counselor I will also promote a culture of respect for all uh this includes not engaging in any harassment as defined by Customs anti-harassment policy towards others and should I observe or hear of any harassment I will bring it to the attention of the camp adviser or Customs hotline immediate in order to create a safe and inviting Camp environment for all campers counselors and families I will have a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion and will do all I can to ensure I am creating an inclusive welcoming and respectful environment I will always maintain supervision of campers I understand that there are zero exceptions to leaving a camper or campers unattended or unsupervised I will always have have at least one additional camper or counselor with me or be in the vision of another camper or counselor at all times I will refrain from the use of any inappropriate language such as swearing making threats or making demeaning comments campers really look up to us as leaders and Role Models so we want to be sure to set and use a good example and good judgment uh which is why maintaining professionalism uh is so important uh throughout Camp I also always wear CL shoes and ensure uh that my campers are wearing closed toad shoes as well except for shower times and at the water or Swim activities I will always wear clothing appropriate to the given activity to ensure I'm able to fully participate without injury exposure or otherwise examples here could be using like one p one piece bathing suits uh not wearing speedos um making sure to wear closed toed shoes always wearing and modeling the use of a life jacket and so on and then I will always wear clothing in accessories which are appropriate to the activity and setting throughout programming clothing um may not contain any references to drugs or alcohol and must not contain any messaging which is offensive to others including explicit language uh this would also include any clothing or accessories that could be deed deemed uh political in nature clothing must suspicion or reference of any inappropriate counselor or camper Behavior to the camp advisor immediately this can include but is not limited to issues such as harassment as defined by the anti-harassment policy bullying the use of inappropriate language or threats or boundary and relationship issues if I hear something I will say something and finally I will report suspicions or disclosures of abuse neglect self harm Andor suicidal ideation to the camp advisor and mental health professional immediately I understand that no child abuse of any kind will be tolerated including physical verbal sexual or emotional abuse or neglect I understand that the following things will result in immediate dismissal from Camp and potentially future involvement these would be violence against campers families or other staff members breaking the rule of three any use of drugs tobacco including Jewels Vapes and ecigarettes overuse of prescription drug drugs or alcohol allegations of abuse neglect harassment these will result in immediate removal from camp for investigation threats to harm self or others negative comments or jokes regarding one's race religion sexual orientation and gender identity depending on the situation these may or may not classify as a one offense rule when we say one offense rule this means if comments happen at Camp a serious conversation with the individual will take place and the consequences of any additional comments will be outlined um should any additional comments occur that would likely result in an immediate dismissal from camp and then finally violations of any Camp custom policy may also um be a suspension or depending on the the extent of the situation the purpose of sharing these with you is is not to scare you but rather to underscore the importance of our conduct while at Camp uh any of these could be things that jeopardize the safety of yourself others at camp or our camp as a whole uh which is why they are considered grounds for immediate dismissal the remainder of custom's policies will be reviewed with you in other uh video training modules and you'll also have access to all of these policies at all times in the uh staff handbook resource um for our next policy of this video I want to walk you through our health and safety policies uh these will be important in helping us to ensure that everything at Camp enters and exits the program healthy um against any type of infectious disease Co included um this will also include uh cm's sun safety policy as well so first uh health and safety policy regarding the use of a mask or facial covering um these will be optional throughout Camp custom programming uh any individual may choose to wear one at any time or environment and custom staff and volunteers should be supportive of that of that choice in any such cases uh additionally there may be some rare instances where if something contagious is believed to be spreading throughout a cabin or a unit or Camp as a whole U masks may be recommended to help slow potential disease transmission um these instances would be clearly communicated prior to being implemented by the custom hotline and your Camp advisers additionally all individuals will go through a health screening upon their arrival to Camp uh the health screen includes the four questions that you see here which are uh one have you tested positive for covid within the last five days uh two are you feeling sick today three are you currently experiencing any of the symptoms that we see displayed here so common things like fever chills cough fatigue headache and so on and then finally do you or does uh your camper uh have any conditions which may cause you or them to experience any of these symptoms so this same screen will be used for us as well as for campers and families at check-in anyone actively experiencing symptoms which are not explained by another pre-existing condition or uh who are feeling sick should not attend Camp uh if someone has tested positive for covid within the last 5 days they should not attend Camp unless there's been a doctor or Physicians note clearing them to do so after check-in um it is important for everyone at camp to remain vigilant for symptoms of illness in themselves their Campers or their fellow staff uh like the rest of Camp it's useful to take an if you see something say something approach here um some things to keep an eye out for uh would be the same symptoms that are listed in question three so fever chills cough shortness of breath difficulty breathing fatigue muscle or body aches headache new or loss uh taste new loss of taste or smell sore throat congestion or runny nose nausea or vomiting or diarrhea if you begin to experiencing uh experience any of these symptoms yourself or you notice these symptoms in your Campers or a camper shares with you that they are feeling under the weather you should report the situation to your Camp advisor or the admin team immediately finally it is customs policy that chapters and camps adhere to any and all local mandates and public health guidance in any such cases cases where those exist these me measures may be communicated by state county or city governmental authorities uh chapter should monitor the local area and be prepared to implement any of these necessary measures uh in the event that these measures be uh are necessary your your program coordinator will work with you prior to Camp to prepare for and Implement uh any such measures for the last policy of this video let's take a look at custom's s safety policy custom is committed to promoting the safety of all of its participants throughout programming to ensure that volunteers and participants are protected from harmful and prolonged sun exposure this policy has been created there are several required elements of the policy and several recommended elements of the policy we'll start by reviewing what is required so first sunscreen with an SPS of SPF of 30 or more must be applied to Exposed Skin anytime an individual will be participating in programming Outdoors for 30 or more minutes volunteers should prompt and remind children to apply sunscreen for the physical contact policy volunteers should not directly apply Sun screen to children or campers uh sunscreen must be reapplied every 45 to 60 minutes when participating in programs Outdoors next uh let's take a look at the recommended aspects of this policy so while these are not required they are best practices to promote optimal safety and protection from sun damage so first uh consider wearing a protective wide brimmed hat while outdoors and in direct sun exposure uh this helps provide protection for the sensitive areas of the head and face U next consider wearing sunglasses with some SPF protection um choose lightweight clothing with the greatest amount of coverage uh this can include choosing clothing with an SPF protection on it uh avoid clothing which contains a loose or open weave such as lace uh dark colored clothing provides greater SPF protection than lighter clothing also when possible uh seek shaded areas and minimizing the risk amount uh minimizing rather the amount of time spent in direct sunlight uh will help to uh reduce risk as well so this wraps up this chaining session uh thank you so much for your attention and if you have any questions uh please be sure to share those with your chapter directors uh if you are a chapter director you may share any questions you have with your program coordinator and have a great session everyone [Music]
