Understanding Football Handoffs and Techniques

[Music] hi guys welcome back episode 2 we're gonna talk about handouts now the last episode I need you to go check it but check that out you talked about prop quarterback stand and center of quarterback exchange under the center and is shotgun so today we're going to talk about a couple different hand outs and how to do that properly now when you think of a hand off you don't think of something that difficult you know but there are some things and there are some little tips that you can do to make your running back better and again besides the offensive line which is represented here quarterback his best friend is his running back and we have a good running game a man we could do a lot with that you can play action everything which we'll cover later now again we have these cones set up and they represent our line so this so the yellow color here represents our Center we have our guard our tackle and our tight in now going to the left we have a number for each hole so the hole is represented by the space in between the center and the guard so if I'm the guard marseilles the center then this would be a home okay so for our left side we'll start here this would be so we start up under the center it's the zero home okay so it's zero right here right up the center behind then we're gonna have here got the one home or some coaches might start with the three member left is our right is even so this is the one who is just say one hopeless simplicity purposes okay in between the guard and the tackle three home okay in between the tackle tight in five holes okay beyond the tight end 7ho okay going through the other side between the right tackle in the center to low tackle excuse me guard tackle for ho tackle in six hole beyond the tide in eight hole okay so we're gonna start with some basic some basic handoffs now we're gonna start with basically your dive again if you're playing middle school ball if you're playing a little league ball even up to the pros everybody got a dive a smash however you want to say it just basically Marcel's gonna be my running back here it's just basically so I fight is for coach calls let's say twenty one dive you know the full-back will be represented by two and the one hub is represented by the direction of which he's going all it is is a simple guide play he's coming straight here okay nothing hard about that nothing you really got to train for everybody can do that but it is nuanced right so what we want to do if we call a 21 dive for $22 just parks this left side at first myself what we don't want to do is that we don't want to step into the hole because what you have to remember is this I coached my high school on one of my house coaches told me this every football play that is drawn up is designed to score okay let me repeat that every football player is drawn up is designed to score so whether it's a simplistic dive or some trick play or something of long paring down the foot every player's designed to score so if it's blocked correctly you have the right circumstances you can score so what you don't want to do is you don't want to live the hole you have to understand where the where the plan is trying to go and what the culture is trying to do so my close calls with $21 I don't want to step into the way that the player is going what I want to do is I want to step back okay and I'm gonna present the ball here okay now again second point of water so if I call 21 dive I'm stepping back I'm here and I don't want to just I don't want to do this I don't want to step back and just wait for him to come come get the ball because again if my Center gets blown up my car gets blown up or you have an athletic linebacker they come to a tanker so I'm stepping back and I'm gonna keep the ball chest high and then once he's ready coming down here then I'm gonna present it and I'm gonna carry out whatever fake get your coach tell you to carry out we're gonna be rolling we're back so again let's get some we're gonna run about half speed okay good okay and again with a dial plate it's a quick hitter so we want to get the balls back as far as possible but as divers there's a fast play so we're not gonna be able to get it that much farther back okay second play that we're going to do is I saw I saw generally what you have is that you have a fullback in the tailback and they're craving situation where the isolating blocking that full back against a linebacker and he's trading a pathway for our tailback to cut off for him and run now I tell excuse me on ISO so if we're gonna run like 43 ISO so that's running in the three hole it's a reverse pivot so we're gonna run to our left so if you comes on ISIL to one of the holes that represent the left side we're gonna rush pivot out that's why right okay now that's the hard about that for some of you young guys who never play football it may be a little confusing at first but after you run it for one day you coach the elevation you'll get it but what we want to do is the trick here is that we want to get back as far as possible because if I can step back as far as possible I'm gonna give my back that much more time to see what's going on and he can make a decision because again every player is designed to score however something can happen maybe he asked the jump cut out maybe yeah cut it back or what happened so again if I'm here I want to step respect as far as possible and always remember particularly on the ISO particularly on the ISO to carry out your faith so after I've got my mechanic down you know carry out that fake or whatever your coach wants you to do at that point okay so the third handoff we'll be going over is the zone okay now I know a lot of people probably familiar with this running in the shotgun but there's also ways to run it from under center and we're gonna call it the zone some people call it this stretch it's a various different names for it so there's two type of zone play so we're gonna run it to the right so you have a in size over inside stretching the outside stretch so if I have an inside stretch my step is right down the field right here okay and I'm delivering the ball slightly out of angle still with my same concept we're trying to get the balls Morris back back as possible to give him time to cut because what you just quickly your offensive line is stepping to a Pacific plot the spot and blocking that zone they're not blocking a man so he can take it out you can take it in he can take it back now this one is tricky this is the outside zone so his step is going to be flat outside and you gotta hustle up to get back there okay so go ahead and your step has to be flat and you have to meet him there okay a lot of again it's slightly more Pro style type of offenses but this can be effective play but what you want to do is what you're running these inside and outside zones with the inside zone you don't want to step too far out I don't want to I don't want to take him too far outside the play and with the outside zone I'm gonna book he to get out here so he can make a and getting the ball back as far as possible so he can make a decision on where she cut okay so my last play here is a top thanks for man check that out we want to run at all again this this is um this is going to be slightly quarterbacks have trouble with this for whatever reason okay a Tulsa is again just like the I so if I call 48 tops your cousin may have different nature but if I'm calling the talks to the right to the outside I'm reversing out to my left and I'm tossing now look the other side for the backside so that working okay now when we doing this palm I'm reversing out I want to keep the ball low right when I get to about chest level that's what I want to toss it out a lot of quarterbacks they hesitate now they'll hesitate here you know I'm saying it flick it up you want to keep that ball low and toss it out once you get about this you know I would say blow chest so let's speed it up we're going running through real-time but you know keep the ball start low if you want to in your toss around once you get to your your stomach to your chest so that way the ball doesn't fly because if you toss it here the ball is gonna fly up and if you don't have properly control coming here the ball could fly to get away from you this is an easy play that a lot of youngers have problems with okay so run it one more time just to show you alright okay let now this is the last play last play for our basic running plays from under center is the counter okay now counter is a tricky play because emotion is similar to the ISO but our back is going under us so if I'm calling you know so if I'm gonna call for instance a43 counter right so what that means is accounting is that we're showing action to the left but we're coming back right in our the left bond is pulling kicking somebody out okay so if I'm calling 43 counter it's the same step as I'm reversing out to my like I'm I so bicep except I am reversing out to the play side so if it's a counter unlike the unlike the eye so if I call ISIL to the less I'm reversing out right if I call ISIL excuse me accounted to the left 43 counter I'm reversing out to that play sighs so I'm going here so I'm coming here and the running back is coming under me do we understand it let's run it again this is this is something a point of confusion for a lot of young quarterback an inexperienced quarterback okay similar to the ISIL I'm reversing out excuse me my steps are similar but I'm arresting our play side 43 counter I'm reversing out to my left and handoff is going to be under me so to do it again here counter okay let's hit it to the right so we're gonna say 44 counter now what am i doing reversing out to my right okay guys let's go sit put and again we if we are running this counter we got to make sure that we don't run our running back out the hookers running back like he did will notice you taking a jab step he's taking a jab step just like we're running the eye so this is actually a good play just kind of you know again it's some affirmation offenses some pro style offenses they're still effective okay
