Drifting Techniques for Sharp Turns

today we're going to break down into three sections on how to drift a turn [Music] properly so here's the first part of the turn where you're going to drive directly at the outside of turn you always want to start on the outside of every turn whether or not you need to go inside or outside later on always going to start at the outside of turn driving straight towards where we're at right now and you're going to throw it in with a clutch kick right about here drive to the outside of the turn and we're going to dip our clutch down and throw the wheel and then get on the gas through the exit and power through um you're going to want to go into the turn a little bit faster than you would if you were just normally grip driving it so if this was a 20 mph turn you want to come in at about 25 30 m hour cuz you're going to lose your speed after you do your clutch kick in right here you've already clutch kicked in you've got the car sideways and you've got it stabilized and you're doing that by using your steering and throttle just like in our donut episode that you can see after you've thrown it in right here is where you're getting onto the gas so if you watch my feet during this part of the video it's very important to keep it in the power band but yet finesse it through so that you're not spinning the car out if you are getting too much angle and you're not moving forward it's going to start pushing you to the side so you want to always feel like a forward momentum so if you're just feeling that side you need to give it some throttle and get through it a little bit better so talking more about that feeling keeping it in that back left pocket that's what we want to do so we're going to throw it in and then just stay on the gas a little bit so you're feeling that forward speed balancing with the side of it we like to call that side bite and forward bite so you always want to balance that so that way your car looks smooth it feels smooth in the car if you're getting any jerkiness or anything like that it's usually related to the side bite and forward by driving you through the turn now when you have the exit of the turn it's going to be a lot of throttle cuz this is your your commitment end so you're going to throw it in get your counter steer once you're set just going to unwind the car basically like let it sit there and just kind of unwind it and basically you're just straightening the steering wheel out as your tires are catching up to the car's speed seating position is also pretty important you usually want just like similar to road racing like a 90° angle at the elbow here for the steering wheel it allows you to kind of go where you need to without extending yourself and moving your body uh the other big trick is using the dead pedal as uh something that would help like a race seat so what you're doing there is you're kind of putting your foot over where the dead pedal's at embracing yourself when you're not using the clutch or brake um the seating position as well you kind of want to be more upright than normal so you can have good stability and your seats will actually hold you uh these are just BMW like sport seat normal stock seats that have okay bolsters and were're able to get around and not really have to think about you know supporting ourselves while we're driving so now you guys should know how to drift a turn and power all the way through it if you guys have any questions about what we did today go ahead and blast them into the comments and we'll do our best to either comment back or create a video for you guys
