Report Writing

  • What is Report Writing:
    • In exams, you will get two reports, each worth 10 marks.
    • There is no choice; you have to write both topics.
    • Reports must be written only in English.
    • Two pages are given for each report.
    • Each report should be around 200 words.
    • You have 10 minutes to write one report.

Two Main Parts of the Report

Format

  • Topic: Write in the middle.
  • Do not write your name: You can write X, ABC, Special Correspondent, etc.
  • Place: Write New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, etc.
  • Date: Write a date a day or two earlier.
  • Body: Write about past incidents or future incidents.
  • Tense: Write in past or present perfect tense.
  • Main Points:
    • What
    • When
    • Where
    • How
    • Why
    • Results
  • Sources: Write sources at the end.

Importance of Content

  • Reports are from newspaper or current affairs topics.
  • Some reports can also be from static topics.
  • Reading the newspaper is essential.

Suggestions

  • The report is about past incidents.
  • There is a difference between GS answers and reports.
  • Keep in mind the limited space and time.

Scoring

  • In such cases, 8-9 marks are average, 10-14 marks are considered good.
  • In arguments, 9-10 marks are average, 13-14 marks are considered good.
  • In reports, less than 4 marks are poor, 6-7 marks are considered good.
