Introduction to Products and Services
- A product is any good offered to satisfy a need or want.
- A service is a skill or activity offered by someone to others.
- Products are classified as tangible (can be sensed) or intangible (cannot be directly sensed).
Examples and Classification

Describing Products and Services

- Description includes features, characteristics, and functions.
- Physical descriptions: shape, size, color, material, structure.
- Other features: adaptability, simplicity, suitability.
- Functions explain what the product/service does and its purpose.
- Descriptions compare similarities or differences with other products.
Language for Description
- Use descriptive adjectives to make descriptions appealing (e.g., fantastic, sleek, affordable).
- Add specific and superlative adjectives for stronger impact (e.g., most advanced, latest).
- Highlight unique features and strongest selling points first.
Features vs. Benefits
- Features are factual qualities of a product.
- Benefits are the positive outcomes or reasons for buying the product.
- Benefits use persuasive language that helps consumers visualize advantages.
Using WH Questions to Describe Products
- Guide your description using: What, Where, When, Why, and How.
- Example: What is it? What does it do? Where is it made? How is it used? How much does it cost?
